2011 Houston Cougars Thread

So are the Coohs still going east now that it looks like the service acadamies are staying put?

Watch out, Baylor might sue. :turtle:

Ha ha! Should Coogs put up billboards as well? Seriously Big East seems tempting BCS and all. But man, they need to change conference name IMO. Geographically, the Coogs are no near to East region. May be like Big East with a little be of South Conference or something.

Go Coogs!!!

Keenum is going nuts with most of the 4th to get a personal best 7th TD.

24-28, 376 yds 6 TDs.

I know who's house that is.....lol.

I love it. I was just looking at some pics from the game and noticed they were wearing the old school jerseys.

:cry2: Toalk amounst yaselves. I'm a little faclempt. :cry2:

EDIT: Helmets too!! I miss it.

What a game! Took my son and old man to the game today. Pre-gamed with the H-association and met some of the old mans old Cougar team mates. Got a chance to talk shop with UH hall of honor inductee Bill Bridges. A dominating Coogs win to top it off made my day.

Just got back home from the game. Case was on tonight in setting the all-time NCAA record for total yards in a career!

Go Coogs!

Great game today the offense probably had less than 20 mins time of possession today and put 56 on the board. I think they had 3 one play td drives. Next up Nerd U on Thursday night.

I know nothing of Cougar Football.

Is Keenum much of a pro prospect?
I think he's draftable. Not a high pick like Kolb was. What Keenum looks like under the center in all star games and workouts, as well as his combine metrics will determine how high he goes on the 3rd day of the draft. I'd say 5th or 6th round.

Personally, I like him a lot. He has great vision and a quick release. Very underrated athleticism. Arm strength, height, and gimmick offense are the marks against him.

Spread passing format with a strong running game to boost it. Not much of a gimmick to that.

Beating Marshal and some of those others just don't mean much. Sure wins ump up the alumni and 6 year geriatric (just kidding) Case Keenum gets national pub, but let's move on. Anyone in the wings to replace Kolb, er, Keenum?

Now if they would just start scheduling stronger teams.

a better conference would help with that...CUSA is just trash & the little "big" 12 continues to look over us.....as if we'd be any worse than baylor had been for much of their tenure & Iowa State......... forever

Cotton Turner should be the starter next season.

At least Oklahoma State and Texas Tech have played the Coogs.

Coogs are 2-1 against OK State and 1-1 against TT.
Not to mention 3-1 against Miss. St..

These games have all been played in the last few years now.

Cotton Turner is a senior as well. The QB competition in the spring and fall camp should be between David Piland who will be a redshirt sophmorefrom Southlake Carroll and Bram Kohlhausen a redshirt freshman from Houston Lamar.

Next years OOC schedule is Texas St, La Tech and at UCLA.

Bloody Hell I forgot Turner was a senior as well.

Piland should have the advantage going into spring then.

Any way we can get another year or two out of him? jk

It's a two way street. Who wants to schedule a strong, non-conference team? Other schools have much more to lose than win by scheduling UH. It's a problem teams like Boise St. had for several years.

The "gimmick" report is the weakest in an otherwise good argument.

That's not exclusively my opinion. That's been coming from NFL teams for years describing the "Air Raid" spread.

I say if it works, use it. But, I can see the NFL's point of view, in that it allows QBs to be more vulnerable. It's a part of most NFL offenses, but it's not the mainstay. Running the spread was a knock on Cam Newton during the draft process, last year. Though that didn't stop the Panthers from taking him #1. It will be a knock on Kennum, in that he's only run that offense in his 6 years at UH.

6 years?

How old is he? I guess a redshift season, then what an injury season?

Redshirt his freshmen season.
He played for about 6-7 quarters in 3 games before he tore his ACL in the third game last season.

When I watched Keenum his first year, I saw a poised QB.

He almost helped us pull out a victory agaisnt Alabama on their home turf after we trailed something like 20 or 23 points with Blake Joseph at QB.

We were down on their 4 yard line when Case threw the INT with no time left on the clock and he was pressured.

The Coogs offense is not the Air Raid; it is a mixed bag of a lot of things.
In the off-season, I hope to have a thread about Keenum.
I don't know how much his size will hurt him in the draft, but the guy can flat out play.
His pre-snap read is really good; he knows how to take advantage of what the defense gives him and that's half of the battle right there!

What's really going to hurt Keenum is that a lot of teams are going to overreact to the history of knee injuries and call him "injury prone". His size will also be a factor, along with the "system QB" label.

I think he is worth a look. There are definitely some better prospects out there but I think, in the right offense, Keenum is a guy that could be developed.

Case is not injury prone he never had any injuries his whole college career until he tore his ACL. The shoulder injury which helped him win the appeal for this year happened the last game of his high school career.

I never said he was injury prone. Re-read my post.

This is a no brainer the worst that can happen is we are in another non BCS league, but the best basketball conference in America. Its a risk you have to take.
I suppose you're right. I never considered basketball games, maybe I should try them out this season, especially considering the NBA is gone.
