Texans random thought of the day

Just to stay sane I had to shift all of my focus and energy to the Houston Astros, and even some to the Houston Rockets. I'd have already lost my mind to manic depression if I thought about the Houston Texans all that much. At this point I just try to enjoy the Texans on the side. I don't take them too seriously anymore.

Your energy and enthusiasm for the astros helped get me through that rough patch. Thanks

Most 3rd Downs are from 3 to 6 yards - these are the best Defenses

Keemun looking like one of the better back up QBs out there. I would definitely go after him this off season. He is a mobile QB you can feel that his playing style isn’t as far off to Watson’s compared to that of Savage.

I think having a solid back up QB is high on the off-season list to-dos. I would go for one in the draft too and make him an IR stash. A mobile one.

The last time the Texans won, the Astros were getting ready to play a 13-12 game 5 in the World Series. Ahh, if only the Texans could score 13 points with Savage.

I'm back to the point now where I turn on the game, hit the mute button, and go do other stuff glancing at the TV as I walk past it. Can't stand not knowing what's going on in the game, but can't stand to actually watch the game either.

I bounced around between red zone, our game, and then the ultimately the Rockets game. We still have talent and it shows but as long as the QB position is what it is, there's no point in watching them. Get those young guys some playing time and pad some stats (if possible).

I guess everybody needs something to complain about.

Derrick Johnson among 2017’s biggest disappointments for Chiefs
The biggest disappointment so far this year is Derrick Johnson. Despite coming off his second torn Achilles injury and being 34 years old, Chiefs fans had high hopes for Johnson. It was expected he would be back at nearly full strength and he would be a big jolt to the anemic run defense of the Chiefs. However, Johnson appears to have fallen back a lot more than many of us thought. He is slow, for Johnson that is, and is playing hesitant because of it. Gone is the bullet through the line that would blow up a running back as he took the handoff. Gone is the speed man who could beat even the fastest running back to the corner. It appears we are seeing the end of Johnson’s brilliant KC career and that is just sad to say. [Britt Zank]

Maybe they felt like they didn't have to prepare or focus that hard for us and that type of mentality bit them in the ass the following week. Maybe we were just a "practice game" for them. What are the records of the teams a week after playing the winless Cleveland Browns?

In the case of the Patriots and Seahawks though, Deshaun Watson should have won both shootouts. Bill O'Brien with some very dumb play-calling late in those games. Trusting a Lamar Miller run up the gut to get a game-clinching first down. Sigh. We had Foreman at that time (a bull dozer compared to Miller) and he also took the ball out of Watson's hands.

Not once but twice, Bill O'Brien blew it. He didn't learn the first time! If we had two more wins right now, we'd be very much in the AFC playoff race at 6-4 and not 4-6. We could have made Watson's season-ending injury actually matter by still trying to make the playoffs for him. The kid gave this team so much hope and had us in position to win every game.

But point being, the Patriots and Seahawks were spent, energy wise. Those two games took a lot out of them. They had an empty fuel tank going into their next game. Tom Brady is 40 years old: He wasn't going to win another shootout with the Panthers the following week. I'm actually surprised he made it out of that game still healthy.

OL clasping hands do not constitute illegal use of the hands. And hooking only refers to hands grasping around the outside of the defender's body. So that there doesn't appear to be a case of illegal use of the hands. But I can't answer if the former "technique" is happen stance or by plan. Never really remember specifically seeing this as a coordinated scheme before.

Aside from "the rules" where the refs use discretion to not call penalties is whether a move was made which the offense never countered - you can hold someone who never tried to get away all day long.

Honestly does anybody really know what's legal for Olineman from one play to the next or from one official to the next ? For example this past Sunday I saw several plays where an Olineman grabbed a Dlineman with both hands and threw him to the ground with no penalty flag being thrown, so I ask you how is that not holding ?

Holding calls or non-calls are just one way the zebras can control the outcome of a game. Another infamous zebra "control" is pass interference. It's getting more like the NBA, where the refs routinely can turn the outcome of a game single-handedly.

Right OK, so are you suggesting it's by design, in other words there's something sinister going on here with the refs, or just talking about incompetent refs ?

The NFL is turning into the WEE, complete with God'ell suspending star players with no evidence/lying about the evidence, National Anthem, What's a catch, Officiating deciding games etc....

No wonder why the NFL in decline.

I have heard it said many times during games that holding could be called on every play.

Refs decide when to call it. Could that be called "by design" ?

Kinda like roughing the passer, seems that some QB's get that call more often than other QB's.

We all have seen calls that don't pass the sniff test. We all probably have an opinion why that is.

I truthfully don't know what to think. But there have been some very bad calls and non-calls during games, especially important games, and especially at critical times near the end of games that have accounted for total change of outcomes.

Was interesting that the NFL sent another Oakland home game to Mexico City this year considering the refs decisions in our game against them there last year.

Plays into the theory that in some situations the NFL might be better off favouring one team over another and the refs have discretion to affect the outcome.

Not this year.

According to these clowns, there is going to be some really boring games this weekend. They are probably right. Only game besides our Texans I'm really interested in is the Saints/Rams game.

How does that make for boring games? I love division games and almost always pick the home team, regardless of record.

I meant boring in the sense that they are all picking the same team to win. Except for the Saints/Rams game, that is about a 50/50 split almost. And the Colts/Titans game has a little variety in there.
I like the division games too. That's why I don't bet football. Because you never know.
