Texans random thought of the day

Not enough info!

A long time past employee. Hired a few years after i started my business...young, beautiful, capable & ambitious. Now in her late 30s & still very, very, very...

She helped grow the enterprise, definitely, and winded up as director of our 1st foreign branch. Eventually left for greener pastures. Always had a thing for her, never even close to acting upon it, though she tempted (no false reads, just fact).

Reconnected last month, invited me for a ride (horses) & ended in another ride.

Enough? ;)

i want this to be a true story.

...she only called me by my surname in the tack room.
Never been called Mr. _____ while/during before.

Lookwise, i'd point to Mary Stuart Masterson in 'At Close Range', what can i say...got a thing for redheads.

Matt Lauer faints?

#Texans WR @DeAndreHopkins and RB @millertime_6 join Antonio Brown, A.J. Green and LeSean McCoy as the only players in the @NFL to gain 800-or-more yards from scrimmage in each of the last five seasons (2013-2017)

I figured why not.. ..

my good thought.... Foster is a freaking beast. I have no idea how he has that good of vision and able to make so many people miss in that split second.

my frustrated thought

I have seen comments about Rex Ryan and how his mentality (good or bad) has infected the team and how they play

and looking at SheTexan's thread

my random thought (and I am NOT saying Kubiak needs to be like Ryan) is here are the Jets and they are going to fine Sanchez (in practice) every time he has bad body language

and I see a picture and read an article where it is from the top of the chain to the bottom...everyone is saying "it is my fault"

.. just seems like Texans have come to expect have bad things happen to them and it does.. I like the jets approach on what they are doing.

I want to see some freaking fire on the TV on sunday .. Green Bay was pumped up last night.. I hardly see the Texans get pumped up but for just a few times. (and not a D-rob pump up thing where they forget that the next play is coming)

Wonder how CJ's guaranteed money, $10,097,000, would play into his medical retirement. Would the Texans get any money back? Would they have to pay him or is there a buy out?

Salary Info:
http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/c.j.-fiedorowicz-14475/

*EDIT - Wrong thread, my bad*

Fiedorowicz would walk away with all of his guaranteed money. If a player is injured during football-related activities, the guaranteed money is guaranteed for injury , meaning that if the player is hurt, he cannot be released for the purpose of saving/recouping guaranteed money. There would be no reason to buy him out, unless the team does not want to resign him and he does not want to retire and wants to be released sooner to seek employment by another team (not likely).

From Wiki but you get the idea:

Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_Illustrated_Sportsperson_of_the_Year
Since its inception in 1954, Sports Illustrated magazine has annually presented the Sportsperson of the Year award to "the athlete or team whose performance that year most embodies the spirit of sportsmanship and achievement." Both Americans and non-Americans are eligible, though in the past the vast majority of winners have been from the United States. Both men and women have won the award, originally called "Sportsman of the Year" and renamed "Sportswoman of the Year" or "Sportswomen of the Year" when applicable; it is currently known as "Sportsperson of the Year."

How did O'Brien miss the obvious replays on the stadium's big screen when Savage was laying there with his arms locked and his hands shaking? Then the team doctor feared him to go back on the field and O'Brien stated that he only listened to what the doctor recommended...oh, he failed to mention that he chunked common sense out the door after the repays. O'Brien would have been well within his rights to ask the doctor for a second look.

You do realize the folks on the sidelines have jobs and are busy right? They don't spend all their time looking at the big screens. OB would be looking for a play, talking to TJ letting the docs do their job.

Bill O'Brien said he had not seen the video of the hit Tom Savage took before he spoke to the media.

This was the O'Brien conference prior to him seeing the video: http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=21732116

Bill O'Brien said he could not have seen the video of the hit Tom Savage took on the sideline, but said if he had, "I would have never let that player back in the game."

Bill O'Brien said he asked for Tom Savage to be re-evaluated after he returned to the game -- not because of anything he saw on the field, but because he wanted to make sure he was OK after short first test.

Bill O’Brien: If I had video, I would have pulled Tom Savage right away
Posted by Josh Alper on December 11, 2017, 11:10 AM EST

Texans coach Bill O’Brien spent a portion of his Monday press conference running through the steps that led to quarterback Tom Savage being cleared to return to Sunday’s loss to the 49ers for a series before he was pulled from the game and placed in the concussion protocol.

Savage took a big hit from Elvis Dumervil in the second quarter of the game and could be seen with his arms in the “fencing response” that sometimes occurs when people suffer concussions when on the ground after the hit. O’Brien said that the medical team told him they would check Savage after that hit and took him to the blue tent on the sideline for a quick evaluation that led to Savage returning to the game.

O’Brien said he couldn’t see the hit or the response from the sideline, but assumed Savage got hit because of how many people were around him. O’Brien does not have access to video on the sideline that would have showed him the hit and Savage’s reaction, something the coach said would have led to a different decision.

“With benefit of seeing the video, obviously from my standpoint — the care for the player — I would have never let that player back into the game and I don’t believe [head trainer] Geoff Kaplan would have let that player back in the game,” O’Brien said, via Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle.

O’Brien saying he asked Kaplan to check Savage again after a three-and-out and that he was told after the second check that Savage could not return to the game. It was not clear from O’Brien’s account whether the spotters in the booth or the unaffiliated neurological consultant on the sideline took a look at the video, which they are supposed to have access to, before clearing Savage to return to action.

The NFL is looking into the handling of the concussion and the NFLPA announced on Monday that it will be doing a “full review” as well.

We here often make flippant remarks about this OL getting Savage killed.

Concussed and convulsed is pretty damn severe in my estimation. And the idiots let him back into the game??

Disgusting display of incompetent OL play and NFL expert observers.

McNugget needs to sell the team to someone who knows what the hell they are doing.

:coffee:

Yes...infantrycak, that is a brilliant assumption, but nonetheless if that was my QB stretched out on the field during an injury timeout, I might be inclined to take a peak if I'm not going out on the field to check on him. Damn, that might be why O'Brien is such an inept HC. When the question of Savage's condition and his re-entry into the game came up during his press conference, he did himself no favors by supplying the answer he did...came across as somewhat ignorant, much like your response did.

IMO - OB had no clue nor should he. I don't blame him for this. I do blame the independent neurologist, the medical staff, and the NFL.
We've always know our medical staff to be a bunch of clowns; I expected more from the league especially in light of all the CTE stuff.

This is my take, the team has medical staff to take care of physical wellbeing, coaches coach.

Now if the medical staff aren't making decisions in the interest of player health, well that is a big deal and if that is because of the culture of the front office and coaching staff, then that needs to be cracked down on.

In the past Game Day Threads, I've repeatedly commented how both the O and D (when they intercept or recover fumbles) players swing the ball away from their bodies like they were holding a loaf of bread. Hopkins' fumble was the culmination to doing it several times during this game alone and getting by with it by luck......until near the end of the game. Who is coaching these players to ignore common sense and good technique?

Kevin Johnson inconsistent as A.J. Bouye's replacement at corner

HOUSTON -- When the Houston Texans let cornerback A.J. Bouye walk in free agency, they were hoping 2015 first-round pick Kevin Johnson could step up and replace his production.

Johnson missed four weeks with a sprained MCL, but even when he's been healthy, he has been inconsistent. Meanwhile in Jacksonville, Bouye has continued his form from 2016 and has thrived alongside second-year star Jalen Ramsey to form an elite cornerback duo.

Bouye is tied for the NFL lead in interceptions with six, and he has broken up an additional 10 passes. According to ESPN Stats & Information, his 16 combined interceptions and pass breakups are second most in the NFL to Chargers cornerback Casey Hayward, who has 18. Two of Bouye’s six interceptions came on Sunday against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. THE REST OF THE STORY

Stopped here...too painful to continue reading. Cap space was available to retain his services. Just hope RS signs a decent FA in the off-season. Morris Claiborne is going to be a FA at seasons end, he might be worth a look. Sign JJo. Move KJax to FS. Johnson relegated to CB3. This group might be able to hold this unit together for 2018. Hopefully the defensive repairs for 2019 start by having some nice picks to work with.

There are times I watch Kevin Johnson and think he's amazing and other times I watch him do stupid **** and think the young man is just a moron. He goes back and forth and I really, really, really want to believe that some part of that is because he's not been able to stay on the field consistently. There's an expected amount of "growth" we just aren't seeing in his game. You just really want to see him get it but every time he starts to look like he's getting comfortable he gets injured and when he comes back "There's the moron again".

Incredibly frustrating.

He is very unreliable in coverage, I hold my breath whenever I see him on an island.

His best trait by far is his physicality though. He is never afraid to stick his nose in for a tackle on a downhill RB or stonewall a stalk blocker and turn the play back inside. that's why Nickel back would be great for him like someone said.

Jadeveon Clowney thinks very highly about Bill O’Brien not only as a coach but as man too. I will take his word for it.

Yeah, me too. I'm not much of a Bill O'Brien fan but if the players are this much behind him (With Watson speaking up as well) then OK, lets see this thing play out and what happens in 2018.

That is exactly how I feel about KJ30. Dude has all the talent. It seemed like he was solid between the ears. Just can't seem to tie it all together. Shame too, we could really use him.

It took Bouye a few seasons to tie it all together so KJ may be on the same road. Nonetheless, sign a veteran FA CB and draft a young one as well in 2018 to bridge the obvious development gap KJ finds himself in. It would be nice to see RS be prepared for whichever way this situation works out.

I'm with this as well but if he's given 2018 then I would like to see the organization force O'Brien into hiring a sound OC who can work with him in developing an offensive playbook that blends both coaches concepts and keeps Watson on the path of success. Most important, O'Brien cannot micro-manage the position....unless it's a total failure, which probably makes the point moot since O'Brien would be fired anyhow.

The 2018 season would be the perfect time for McNair to promote RS to a new position within the organization and hire savvy NFL czar (czar to McNair...Mentor to everyone else) to overlook the whole program. The 2018 NFL Draft would represent the opportune time for a young GM and O'Brien to cut their teeth, since there really isn't anything to lose. Only rule...the War Room guys cannot trade any 2019 picks to move up in the draft. 2018 picks can be bundled to move up. 2018 picks can be traded for more picks in the same draft or stashed away for the 2019 draft. Trading players, that do not represent the identified core group can be utilized in trades for picks in 2018 and 2019.

One of the biggest differences I see between Kjo and Bouye that will never change is that Bouye has always played with incomparable toughness. Kjo tries to compensate all to often by jumping the routes.

I look at the 2018 draft as more or less "lost" anyway at this point. Throwing more picks at it from later drafts just compromises those and probably doesn't save 2018 anyway.

I'd stand pat in 2018, take your medicine, and from the start of the 2018 NFL year I'd plan on being a bigger player than usual in free agency because that's the only place we're going to get immediate help going into next season. According to Over the Cap I think 2018 we have something like $56 million in cap space and simply by making a few moves (some long overdue) we can get that up to almost $80 million.

I cut Brian Cushing and save another $8.5 million, Stay the course with Cunningham

I cut Jeff Allen and save another $5 million. Find his replacement and upgrade in free agency

I don't bring back Fiedo for his own good and add $500,000 in savings. Draft or FA time for this spot.

Derek Newton doesn't make it back (I just don't see that happening) and that's another $4 million. Draft another OT I guess.

Ryan Griffin saves me $2.5 million so I cut him (He's always injured anyway). Draft or FA here too. Maybe keep him if swapping out three TE's in one year is too big a change.

Jay Prosch is almost never used (in a way that makes any difference at all) and I save $400,000 by cutting him. Then I go look for a FB who can catch or at the very least block.

Stephen Anderson drops too many passes so that's another $630,000 I save (Do I even have a TE on the roster now?)

DeAndrew White can't catch a cold. $630,000 more saved.

What is that now? $22,160,000. Add that to the $56,212,683 that OtC says we have and it's $78.4 or so million to work with. Gotta extend Nuk and replace some or all of those guys I just sent packing but seriously, that's a lot of cap space to work with.

Now, in free agency I gotta go out and find some OL help and another DB or two because we're hurting at those spots badly but I think you can. For the secondary I wonder if you could bring Jonathan Joseph back at a more cap friendly number for 1-2 years? Then go out and get another CB and a Safety.

I wonder if it would be possible to get Andrew Norwell from Carolina for one of the guard spots? Plus now I gotta go get a few TE's. I figure you try and steal one off of somebody's practice squad, draft another one if you can, and then try to sign a FA for the starter if possible. Maybe you keep one of ours for another year just until you can replace him. None of our TE's are worth a crap in my opinion but then no NFL teams are beating on my door asking for help so my opinion is just fan bullshit.

Still, I'd cut some fat off this roster and start a mini-rebuild of key areas (OL and Secondary) and I'm pretty sure we're going to have to play in free agency if we want to make real progress toward fixing some of this. I wonder if Charles Sims might be interested in coming to Houston on a professional level. He's an UFA and with Foreman being an uncertainty with the achilles injury we're going to need another RB too.

Gotta extend Nuk

Nuk is under contract thru 2022. I believe Clowney is the next big contract coming up.
JJo is also up this offseason; who knows his value. Making just under $7M this year.

OL and DB would also be my biggest targets this offseason along with overall depth.
Can we sign an entire ST unit?

Yeah, guess I forgot about them getting Nuk signed. It's like it didn't even happen or something (but I know it did.... now).
