So far, I'm encouraged by Gaine. The big negative on him is the highest priority in the offseason should have been resolving our OL issues, and in my opinion, the unit has gotten worse. He made 4 acquisitions on the OL that simply didn't help the group play better this season.
Now if I'm being honest, I'm convinced the bigger problem is the coaching of the OL group... so maybe the talent is there, the coaching just makes them look worse than they actually are.
We have to remember that the past 2 Drafts have been poor drafts for O-linemen and not having a 1st or 2nd round pick kinda "hamstrings" you in that area. Also, this past seasons FA market for O-linemen was considered very bad. Has Norwell, the top OG in last seasons FA, done anything to help Jacksonville? Has Nate Solder, the top OT in last seasons FA, done anything to help the Giants this season? I think Gaine did what he thought was best for the team with the O-linemen he picked up in FA and the Draft and I'm sure he'll continue to work on that weakness this coming off season. It's just going to take time to build the O-line. Now, as for the O-line coaching, well.......
