Texans random thought of the day

Sims had a decent rookie season iirc.
Needs to find his old mojo.
Bring those two into town for a full days tryout against Howell, Ervin and Blue and may the best two win.
Be aware that Hunt suffered a shoulder injury Dec last year.......then a severe ankle injury just a couple of days later landing him on IR. He was released by the Chiefs with a failed physical designation in May.

he wouldn't have been the first owner to get duped by a smooth talking GM, he got rid of Rick. This is a new regime let's actually give them a chance, i.e more than 1 handicapped offseason, before you start crying McNair is handcuffing them

Except people had been telling him for yrs that Ricky sucked. He didn't care he was making his $$$$ and everybody knows Uncle BoB needs his $$$$.

Smithiak should've been let go in 2010. Just like Ricky/BOB should've been let go after last yr and I like BOB. But a house cleaning from top to bottom was needed.

2011 Texans would have won the Super Bowl according to Andre and Foster if Schaub didn't get hurt.

you can say since 2010 you have never bought a Texans item? You have never attended a game? or you have never watched any Texans game?

I haven't bought a Texans item since 2010. We go to games because my wife enjoys going and that makes my football watching life easier.

2 yrs ago I wore my God'ell is a douche shirt to the games. Last yr a wore a champions gear to the game. You know one with an owner that spent what was necessary for his really good team to be put over the top. Thank you Mr. Crane, Mr. Upton. # Winners

well thank you for proving my point, and showing that you are full of it. You spend way more yearly supporting the Texans than the average fan does. So yea I guess you take the L on this one, for continually supporting a team who has no chance and will never have a chance of winning anything according to you

Who told McNair Rick Smith sucks?

Please post the link

C'mon man.. Bob McNair is almost (in December) 81 years old now and is not the 62 year old man who bought the team in 1999. He's worth almost 4 billion dollars and is playing on the last hole of the back 9. This guy can blow a million dollars a day for the rest of his life and probably not go broke.

I'm sure there's nothing he'd love more than to win a championship before he checks out.. Hell it's probably the #1 thing on his bucket list and probably is what led to the desperation/reach signing of Brock Osweiler. Hell I highly doubt he's even involved in the day to day operations of the team anymore. Jerry Jones is 5 years younger than Bob and he's been transitioning power for a few years now.

As far as when "Ricky" and Bob should've been let go..

Ricky should've been out the door when ever Kubiak was out the door, they were tied at the hip and should've left together. Whatever year that should've been doesn't really matter more than the point that both of their exits should've happened at the same time. It would've allowed O'Brien to have the same opportunity that Kubiak was given, which was the opportunity to work with with a G.M. who he was philosophically aligned with from day 1. (I'm not counting Charlie's lame duck year.)

Now as far as when Bill O'Brien should've been let go.. I wouldn't of been upset with dumping him after the '16 season. I was completely fed up with his QB carousel and his short leash that came with it. If it was going to happen that's when it should've happened. Now on to last season.

Even though we had a shitty record last season, I actually believe that was the best coaching job he's done to date here. Up until last year I thought he was a stubborn hard headed imbecile who had zero flexibility.

However the job that he did with changing our offense on the fly with the RPO concepts he installed, surrendering control to a rookie QB, and allowing Watson the freedom to be himself (And the #1 offense that resulted from it) showed me a different side of O'Brien and showed growth. Enough to pique my interest/curiosity to see what he can do if he's given another year with Watson..I'm also curious to see how he does working with a G.M. who shares his same philosophies on football. In other words, he bought himself this year, now he better make the most of it.

You do realize the Astros sucked for a long time and saved every penny they could. They were at the bottom 3 of team payroll from 2012 - 2016. Last year's championship team had the 13th lowest payroll in baseball. The only reason we were able to acquire Verlander was because the Tigers were willing to pay $8mil/year of JV's salary. Astros are not the best example to prove your point.

I know exactly how the Astros were built and it's not like the Texans haven't sucked before too. For instance if you want to look back at what's wrong with the Astros vs Texans and how they are/were run look no further than the JDC draft,

The Astros on the otherhand built their team with a little bit of luck and draft (Not just 1st rd picks)/ smart trades/money.

The Texans not so much. Hopefully this changes with the new regime. Do you remember the last yr the Astros sucked I said they would be the next team to bring a championship to this city? Why smart leadership and a commitment to win by ownership. Why did I think this? Because my mother in law worked for Crane for yrs and he's got a drive to win regardless of what he does like few others have. This includes McNair.

Notice how this is becoming more and more of an Astros town? It's because of the Astros winning and Crane stepping up when this city needed a championship really bad. Also all of the $$$$ with no string attached during the flood. Unlike McNair who asked season ticketholders to match his donation then raised ticket prices to cover the $$$$ he spent, coming off of a 4-12 season. Many of these season ticketholders were flooded out of their homes at the time they got news of the price hikes. Yep, people can be blind all they choose to be, but it's pretty obvious what's most important to McNair. So just to let you know I'm not bitter at all, but I realize McNair is a special kind of guy.

I didn't know we were keeping score on W-L's.

I got a big W with my wife which is all that really matters to me.

‘I View the World Differently Now’: Rick Smith’s Football Sabbatical

**********************************************************

This article reads much like a PR push. Smith wants to get back into football. Don't be surprised to see Smith try to get back into the Broncos organization. If that occurs, expect Kubiak to separate from all things Broncos.

One disturbing aspect of the article to me is his wife's supported decision to approach her breast cancer with mostly holistic treatment. I have personally performed over 200 mastectomies for cancer, over 500 breast cancer reconstructions.........and followed over 1000 breast cancer patients. Some that took the holistic approach did well initially, most did not.........either way most progressed to incurable, or if "standard" treatments were later instituted before reaching that stage, the prognosis was usually still significantly negatively affected due to the later stage of the disease. I wish Tiffany the best, but shrinking her tumor by half, although it may sound great, is not all that encouraging at this point as any tumor left behind (vs surgical removal or radiation eradication) will continue to shed cancer cells leading to dissemination.

I simply commented on what you said.

“You know one with an owner that spent what was necessary for his really good team to be put over the top.”

Crane did NOT spend what was necessary. Astros, in fact, are a great example of spending money doesn’t equal contending. Even after winning a championship, they still aren’t in the top 10 of payroll.

In 2013, did you know your boy Jim Crane had the most profitable team in baseball, despite having the worst record and lowest payroll?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/danale...m-is-most-profitable-in-history/#509f40a634c0

Just my two cents: Astros lost me before Crane bought team but he did nothing to win me back. When Astros had great season including World Series drives, I couldn't regain the old baseball fan spirit that I use to have. May have to say same thing about Rockets but Ferttito and team as it stands will probably have me with TV on for a few games at least. With Texans it takes much less for me to slink back like a hound who slept through a fox in the hen house feast. I'm stubborn but I ain't proud.

If healthy, Sims would be an upgrade over Ervin. He could split time with Miller and is good for 10-15 touches per game. He can also KR/PR. Very good hands.

.....and to think, the Texans could've had Adrien Peterson for what would probably amount to the same financial commitment. Not to mention, Peterson really wanted to play for the Texans. What makes this crazier, the team is actively bringing other RB's in for look-see's.

...it was funny how everyone was yelling for Crane to get out as owner of the Astros. I can't even remember the countless times I posted on the Astros site back then, that Crane had the vision and the right man to execute this vision in Luhnow. Greatness doesn't happen overnight, it starts with a solid foundation and goes up from there. For the Astros, it meant building the MiLB system back up at the cost of the MLB product.....why was this so hard for folks to understand?

The Texans on the other hand, they've had too many multiple RD1-1's and high draft pick opportunities to be this futile in their quest for greatness. The lack of vision, execution and the ability to evaluate talent doomed this organization for 15 years. Let's see if Gaine can move this needle.

The Texans have had the #1 ovrl pick 3x..in probably the 3 worst damn drafts to have the #1 ovrl pick over that 12 year span. If they lucked out like other teams and were picking in a draft with a highly touted franchise QB, their fortunes would've been totally different.

2002 first round QBs..

David Carr, Joey Harrington, and Patrick Ramsey.

2006 first round QBs..

Vince Young, Matt Lienart, and Jay Cutler.

2014 first round QBs..

Blake Bortles, Johny Manziel, and Teddy Bridgewater.

That is ****ing atrocious, like a who's who of the biggest NFL busts over the last 15 years while teams like the Colts get generational talent everytime they pick first, sickening.

It's like there's some law in the universe that states if the Houston Texans are picking 1st there can't be a QB worth a damn drafting in the entire first round.

I agree but there was no one pointing a gun at the heads of their GM's saying you have to take a QB with the 1st pick. Carr could've been a lot better if he got that first year behind a veteran QB while the FO shored up their OL. That move alone might've put an entirely different light on the organization going forward.....especially with their draft position cemented for those first few years.

Wow now Optimistic done flipped the script around these parts.

I might've been one of the first one's to mention that the Texans should sign AP. I also mentioned scenarios where AP's signing could have a profound effect on the teams younger RB's if nothing else. Something like the Carlos Beltran effect on the Astros bats last season.

Carr would've had a better chance, but I don't think it would've mattered in the end, he already freely admitted post career that Football wasn't a high priority and he didn't put in the work needed to succeed. When he punched the clock to go home, he left everything else at Kirby. Your QB has to be the hardest worker and the most dedicated player on the team for your team to have success, that was not David Carr.

Deshaun Watson has come in here and has been a complete polar opposite. He's a gym rat who's constantly studying, is self motivated, and is always looking at tape trying to find things he can work on and ways to improve his game. He is also a leader of men, has been since the first day he stepped foot in Houston.. David Carr was never comfortable with that. His idea of leading was not getting a damn haircut.

Texans random thought of the day? I couldn't wear my Texans jersey this morning. Put it on and for the first time ever on opening week it just felt like a stupid waste of time.

For pretty much 16 years I've been wearing a Texans jersey to work every Friday during football season. Got dressed this morning and just didn't feel right. Didn't want to wear it. $200+ Andre Johnson (Touchdowns be upon him) jersey and I didn't want to wear it. I'm excited about football season starting but something is wrong. I can't put my finger on it. Is it the kneeling BS? The general "malaise" around the Texans over the past season or two? Bill O'Brien's Butt-Chin maybe? I just don't know.

Hope it passes.

Hope you find your mojo Herv. I'm grinning ear to ear in a liberty white DW4 today.

He spent around an extra 50 mil of 3 yrs to get Verlander

Carr was never big on studying film, and I can tell it has carried over into his post NFL career. Listening to his analysis he still doesn't appear to watch much football

C'mon now Carr-Bombed lets be fair. They've only had it twice based upon their performance on the field because all Xpansion teams are automatically awarded the first overall
in their inaugural Draft.

Still doesn't change the fact that they've had the top pick 3x and everytime they've had it there wasn't a top rated QB worth a damn to draft.

Me too.

Want a DW4 Color rush jersey, but as long as there is a Nike logo on it, I will not buy one.

I use to watch all the football games on TV, now it is only the Texans and sometimes the Pats. Don't watch Sunday night or Monday or Thursday nights - unless the Texans are on.

I am glad the Texans did not chase the ghost Adrian Peterson. He was not a good RB last year nor fit the roster profile reset.
