Andre Johnson Thread

Per Jason Cole: Source close to Johnson says Johnson feels he will be released if he does not accept a pay cut and/or a top WR is drafted in 2015.

It is common sense and unavoidable if the organization has its priorities in order. I am glad to see a source confirming that McNair isn't going to be irresponsible to the organization out of loyalty to one player... My confidence in McNair's common sense was shaken after all the harsh, hyper-confident posts that McNair would never allow that possibility to happen.

Johnsons being scared that might happen don't mean it's going to happen

True... however, Jason Cole's source is almost definitely AJ's agent. I think the word "feel" was a poor writing choice, and it should have said "is concerned, believes it likely that..." based on the context and the source.

Same thing...

I'm concerned, believe it likely that TB is going to be drunk... my beliefs or concerns don't mean it's gonna happen

But in my example it will

Yes, I know.... I am suggesting that it is evidence of that potential. I would argue that Jason Cole wasn't simply reporting on the emotional stability of Andre Johnson, but he received news from a source indicating that AJ has reason to be concerned about his future in Houston.... Again, I know it isn't proof. I get it.

And I understand that AJ may feel that way, there is nothing to suggest that the Texans do

Melton, who’s been a father-figure since Johnson’s birth, said his nephew will reduce his pay if necessary.

“We understand it’s a business and we’re willing to deal with that,” Melton said. “And Andre doesn’t mind having a pay cut.”
...
Johnson said he’s stuck by the Texans this long because he’s always wanted to help create a winner, not join one just to claim a title.

“I tell a lot of other guys now that it was tough going through those (early) years,” Johnson said. “There was times you could’ve easily been like, ‘The hell with it, I’m out of here.’ But I always wanted to build something from scratch. I didn’t want to go somewhere that was already established. It would’ve been nice to win a Super Bowl your first year in but it was something I wanted to work towards.”
Johnathan Joseph, Johnson’s closest friend on the Texans, believes No. 80 will never leave the team.

“Knowing the business and just my gut, he retires a Texan. I really don’t see it any other way,” Joseph said. “I know he’s had opportunities to go elsewhere but that’s really just not his makeup. At the end of the day, sometimes you’re forced out. But if he had his chance and it was up to him, he definitely wouldn’t.”

Johnson referred to the Hall of Fame as “football heaven.” But his primary focus 12 years into his career is clearer than ever: Winning a world title in the city he’s already building his retirement house in.

“Bringing that ring to the city of Houston would be so huge for Andre’s career,” Melton said. “It would be ridiculous because they started from nothing. But it’s been so difficult at times, because of whether it’s been quarterback or defense or (a) coaching change or whatever the case may be.”

He added: “Andre hasn’t had a supporting cast like (others) had. And Andre has given everything — his blood, sweat and tears — to the city of Houston and to the organization.”

And this will be part of why McNair won't be all about the money and give the draft geeks more theoretical cap space to play with.

Given the holes on this team, as much as we can get.

I can see us fixing all holes in the draft. I dont think we have as many holes as people think, the secondary looks bright for the future, we need to resign KJ, all i see on D is a ILB, Safety and DT

It's like coke. No matter how much you give a draft geek, they KNOW they could make it better if you just give them a lititle more.

More like crack... a little is never enough. & it's not just the draft geeks. We have a few closet GMs & some salary cap mavens that love extra cap space.

Draft geeks want more draft picks.

Armchair GMs want more cap space.

I apologize for not being properly inclusive.

Those under any moniker who sit on bean bag (or other, just an image) chairs and fondle themselves (ok sadly that one isn't just for imagery) over draft picks and off season moves they would make if only the NFL was smart enough to recognize a superb owl is just them away for any team.

The Andre Johnson no one knows

The untold story and private world of the greatest Texan in team history

"Home," says Johnson, his eyes zeroing in on the [Houston]'s skyline.

"I don't think I'm going nowhere else," he says.
"Everybody who meets my mom is like, 'Man, you have the coolest mom in the world,' " Andre said. "And I always tell 'em, 'Yeah, you didn't have to deal with the growing-up stage.' She was very tough on me. … You appreciate it now. Back then you was just like, 'Man, she's on me about every little thing.' When you get mad, you suck your teeth: 'Why's she doing this?' "

Karen could be even harder. As Andre became attached to the football field, his dedication in the classroom wavered. A phone call from school about Andre causing trouble in class became a breaking point. Karen raised her hand to rein her boy back in.

"I got the belt like I normally do … and I hit him with the belt," Karen said. "It hurt me so bad. When I finished, I went into my room and I just fell on my knees. And I was crying and I was like, 'Lord, I need your help. I don't know how to be a mother. I don't know how to be a father. But I need your help. I need you to teach me how to raise my son.' "

A week later, Andre wrote a school essay. He handed the paper to his mother. Everything she had been trying to get her child to understand was written down for Karen to see.

"The tears just began to flow," she said. "And I was like, 'OK, God. He gets it.' "
"People don't think that Andre Johnson talks," McGuire said. "He is a clown."
He's building his retirement house in the city where he made his name. Karen moved to Houston last year, joining her son. Uncle Dre hasn't left. Kylie wears her father's jersey to home games, congratulating "Daddy" outside the Texans' locker room whenever he scores a touchdown. Andre started falling for Houston in 2003. Twelve seasons later, Miami is his second city.

"I look at it as home," Andre says. "Houston has accepted me from the time I was drafted. It's always shown me a lot of love with people in the community and I try to give that love back. … I never thought I would leave Miami. To be here, it's given me a whole different outlook on life."

Although Rice had a decent season, I think none are super owls.

Melton, who’s been a father-figure since Johnson’s birth, said his nephew will reduce his pay if necessary.

Andre Johnson surprised at uncle's words, hasn't considered pay cut
"Who said that?" Johnson replied. I told him his uncle did.

"Really?" Johnson said. "I don’t know where that came from. I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it."
...

"I never made any statements about no pay cut or anything because nobody ever approached me about a pay cut," Johnson said, when asked how he'd feel if he were asked to take a pay cut. "Like I said, I’ll cross that bridge whenever it comes."
...

"I don’t know where that story came from," Johnson said. "It wasn’t, did it say that I said it? I can’t speak for nobody else. I only can speak for what I say. I didn’t make that statement."

I'm thinking Uncle Melton got into the egg-nog and started writing checks on Andre's account...

Or ChronBrianSmith has some 'splainin to do. :strangle:

When you typed this were you (a) naked (b) in a bean bag chair (c) eating cheetos, ...

(d) all of the above.
If I had been naked I would not have been typing in this forum, I have a large leather recliner and I don't eat Cheetos...chicharrones! please don't tell me when you are thinking of me being naked...I don't go there. :foottap:

Well I just put in an order for a beanbag chair & a case of Cheetos.... be here next week.

A case of Cheetos? Is that like...a desk of Cheezits? A drum of grape jam? A pallet of chocolate covered pretzels? Where are you getting these units of measurement??

I think they come packaged in 12 bags (8 1/2 oz). What would you call them other than a case? A pod? Flock? herd?

He has this one right. Chips including cheetos are delivered in cases to maximize protection of the fragile product. My guess is that it is either 6 to a case or 12 to a case depending on the size of the bag.
