Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

Remember when the Texans signed Jeff Allen and lots of people thought it was a good pick up...

Or when they drafted can’t miss prospect Sux a filo...

Or how the oline has steadily gotten worse under this regime...

This team should be looking at guys that are good enough to compensate for the regression that comes when this coaching staff gets a hold of them.

Picking up guys that were solid elsewhere or just need a little coaching is asking for failure here.
X-man was just out of college, a rookie and everybody whiffs on them, but Allen was a multiple year vet, second-rounder so that was a major mistake.
Of coures on the other hand as high as they took X-man, that was pretty significan too.
Allen is still under ontract I beleive, are they going to retain, dunn with all of these FA guards coming ?

Can we not go to the "watch the tape" stuff, assuming I've never seen OU play? Being a bigillion pounds in a quick hitting spread offense might work in college. Brown will get destroyed in the NFL if he doesn't make a commitment to his body. He totally reminds me of that great Texans steal, Louis Nix. The lack of desire to work is evident.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1970024-10-nfl-stars-who-overcame-terrible-combine-performances

Texans could only be so lucky to have Brown fall in their laps.

No, why should CBs intercept passes and create turnovers? That would be as silly as DE having sacks and QBs throwing TD passes.
Well if you think about it, if the CB is any good, the QB isn’t throwing in that direction in the first place. Can’t make picks if the ball isn’t coming your way.

This is what makes a GM great, risk/reward. I could totally be down with Henderson/Brown at OT. However, I'm risk adverse and would pick Noteboom over him.

Brown weighed 450 lbs going into high school he's lost about 100 pounds in about 7 years .. once he gets into an NFL training room I expect him to be a stud. You can't teach 6'8 345 with ridiculously long arms. Notebloom was good at TCU and may be a nice sleeper .. I like Rankin alot too.

Love Rankin at RT.

This is why I'm on the fence about Brown.

Well......I guess we should tell Clowney to take his trash 23 sacks in 4 years to kick rocks then. Forget about those pesky TFLs b/c there’s no upside there at all.

It looks the Texans are at least trying this off season. That's a good sign. Hopefully what they do helps.

Yeah that’s the narrative over on the jags messageboard. I could care less if he ever gets an int..just break up the pass and I’m cool
Yes ..we cheer for a sack even if a sack with a fumble recovery is better. I want INTs but if a DB doesn't give up a TD ever (Colvin against slots) that's pretty good when attached to less than 1 yard per catch. I am a bit disappointed as we didn't get Solder although I began to accept we wouldn't before Tuesday. I tried to talk myself into his coming here but he chose another team. We seemingly have improved RT and at least one OG spot; perhaps Jeff Allen at LG or even LT could be better than either spot last season so that is a positive. I truly believe Davenport is going to be significantly better than LT last year. Stop comparing his play at super tackle/TE with a handle of plays he had at LT. Be fair about criticising any player; use facts not your opinions or whom you'd rather have. Is it possible that O'Brien/Gaines said "we want Solder or any LT that is better than Davenport but since Solder is the only apparent one that stands out and he is not coming here, we will go with Big D. and support him with strong help at LG. We will also pick up some backups to rest him or replace him if we are wrong or he gets hurt"?

We've improved our cornerback depth. No one has scooped up Joseph so we can probably bring him back if we don't wait to long and with front 7 improved, he should be better making two spots better. Same with Gilchrist at safety, he is still available. If Kevin Johnson is healthy and hopefully better we are good to go. Sure I want another safety and corner but we should be better now. Let say we sign a starter type safety like Boston or Trayan I would be more willing to combine our thirds and maybe something else to go after a higher % LT. IMO there aren't many that would start before Big D that would be available for us to go get. For me that's Kolton Miller and Martinas Rankin. It is possible that both could be available at #68 so do we risk it and wait get two players or more likely three (rather than trade up)? McClinchey is going top 2/3 of first round in every mock and Orlando Brown is going to be right tackle per just about everyone. So...Geron Christian>who gets pushed around, is inconsistent and struggled last season? He is falling as is Orlando Brown. If I cannot trade up reasonably for McGlinchey who seems to be a lock at LT for years than I will wait and hope Davenport is enough or Miller/Rankin is waiting for me.

So the Texans sign three offensive linemen, filling the consensus greatest need, and one defensive back filling the second consensus need, virtually before free agency even began and people are calling this off-season a bust?
I should probably stop drinking because I truthfully want to ***** slap people right now
You might not agree with the specific signings but to act like the FO has done nothing is ludicrous

man you have a high opinion of Davenport.

I just dont see it and think Gaine needs to do what it takes to get a guy like Rankins/Crosby/Noteboom. Watson's health is too important to wait around and hope the guy you like falls to the 3rd rd,

How do you like my plan of using the 50 mil to get Suh/Mathieu/gaines and draft all offense. particularly Rankins/Crosby etc....

They've signed a bunch of 2nd/3rd tier guys that hopefully get better. Meanwhile the Jags signed the best available OG in FA. It should be easy to understand the fans frustrations.

What would you do with the remaining 50 mil in cap space?

Would I be wrong to suggest one of our assets this year was a first round pick? A first round pick we used last year to acqire Watson. Couple him with our signings thus far and the offseason so far looks a bit better. No?

Minn, Philli, Rams? Really? One good year is a winning culture?

The NFL is changing. Lots of money.

Gotta be good and spend $$$$ in FA as well as draft well.

One or the other isn't enough to win a SB anymore. Particularly when your franchise QB is on his rookie contract.

yes I like Big D and mocked him to us early after his college play impressed me. He quickly learned from mistakes. This is all opinions and I get that you disagree. I disagree with you on Noteboom who looked bad at combine. Crosby seems to be RT only at least for a couple seasons and by you admission, Watson cannot wait. Some think Crosby needs to move inside but we seem to have that covered now so why waste pick? Rankins as I said, I rate above Davenport but that could be 50-50. I'm with you on Mathieu and Gaines but no to Suh. Give me Kyle Fuller CB and Safety Tre Boston to go with Gaines and Mathieu and I'm happy. Id like to bring back Gilchrist and Joseph too if possible. Not much comment recently on back QB.

yes of course but while Watson is very important we know we have him. You smile and brag on the fish you just caught then put it on stringer and focus on hooking another. Once you stop fishing you get to talk about what you bring home. I don't have as much fun talking about what I have on the wall as I do about what I want to go after next.

Fair enough. I'd like to see a bigger splash as well - but he is part of the equation this year. I think a lot of people may be overlooking that.

While I agree

This is totally on the McNair's. Maybe Gaine because he couldn't talk the McNair's to spend the $$$$ that it takes to build a winner. But on the bright side, atleast Gaine was able to talk McNair into letting him sign Henderson.

It's about value

get your point but no one is over looking Watson and he will make other players look better as he did 2017 yet we still want better guys than we are getting so far. Hopefully next few days bring some joy. There may be pain in the night but joy comes in the morning..

We get your point about keeping Watson healthy. But dude can get injured without being touched in practice. You can not prevent these injuries from happening. And you also know darn well every QB who is logging major minutes will get hit no matter how stout the offensive line is.

Watch Noteboom and see how athletic he is and how he seems to understand angles. I can work with a guy like that. What do you think about Harrison? Most physically gifted OT in this draft.

I'm not some when it comes to Crosby, I think he can play an avg level of OT as a rookie. He reminds me of Dawkins from last yr, only a little more awkward. This guy is technically sound and has a meanstreak. He's not the prettiest athlete but I can live with that. 0 sacks as a Sr.

iirc, it was the rb that failed in his block... other team has some players too

I know this, but like lower the number of hits on Watson and improving the odds on Watson staying healthy. BTW, the run game should improved with the FA signings.

But that still will not prevent an injury from happening. He is a young running type QB. You act like he was getting killed last season. Savage statue ash was the one getting slaughtered out there last season not Watson.

Texans, since O’Brian came, now even more so with Gaine, appear to adhere pretty close to the Patriot model. They don’t Go Hard for Big free agents they Go Hard for value and will not overpay. Now that Texans have a franchise QB, the winning will follow? Jury’s out, its tough, competitive and very fluid.

Basicly Texans have upgraded or flat out replaced offensive line deficiencies with exception of a LT. They will have to move up into the 2nd rd. to get one in draft (mark it down). I’m ok with that, just look what the market bears.

Colvin is a terrific signing, he could step in day one starting corner opposite Kevin Johnson. Move Kareem to nickle/safety. What is still available are some dynamic safeties in all sizes, shapes and skill sets but remember the value consideration. Instead of honey badger how about former Longhorn Kenny Vaccaro, S/CB, Saints? Think he only had a pulled groin (past season, which impacted his value lower) finishing out his 5th year of rookie contract. He would be ideal for Texans checking off all the boxes. Already signed one Saint!

We've signed 3 offensive linemen. Frankly, after the catastrophes of the last however many years, I don't even care who they are I'm glad we have three new ones.

Sign more. Draft more. I don't give a ****.

Yeah, I am fine with each signing - the problem is, they didn‘t get anyone exciting. We have so much cap space - and so big holes. And at least some big names were available at the OL and in the secondary. So far we have got guys that were either backups or fringe starters. Like I said, I like each signing, they will help. But having one or two big upgrades would have been nice.

Now FA is not over. Texans were very conservative so far. Let‘s see them make a crazy run at Mattieu or Fuller - or maybe do a trade for a veteran LT.

Pro Day vs. Combine Numbers:
5.63 vs. 5.85 Forty
25.5" vs. 19.5" Vertical
92" vs. 82" Broad Jump

Like I said, he'd improve enough to remain in RD1. Size and wingspan cannot be manipulated to become bigger and longer....it's nature. But how to use that size and wingspan can be coached up and made into a better OT. He's got the physical stature and more importantly, his game tape is what made him a RD1 projection to begin with.

Isn't there another monster OL (est 6-9 @ 370 lbs) floating around? Yet he's only being projected as an UDFA body...not even sure they see a development side to him.

According to that douche Ian Crappaport....

The #Texans are signing former #Saints OL Senio Kelemete to a 3-years, $12M with $5.5M guaranteed, source said.

Never heard of him. But hey, that makes two offensive linemen that weren't an offensive lineman we had last year so hey.

They did reference him as being the best 6th OL in the NFL. He can play every position on the OL but based on his size, he's a fit at OG as a full time starter.

Kelemete is quality depth. Good 6th man on the OL. I am concerned by the OL history of valuing a guy that “can” play multiple positions ove someone that plays one spot well. But in this case I am on board. Not a splash but an upgrade on OL depth.

I'd really like to see what he does with his chance at starting before tagging him as a "jack of trades, master of none" type of player.

Fulton and Kelemete should be projected as G/C type of starters. That's nice but the Texans are sitting on 3 more OL that fit that same description in, Martin, Mancz, and Fuller....which should complete the interior OL slots.
