Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

Can somebody please explain Kirk Cousins' three-year, $84 million dollar contract with the Minnesota Vikings? What is the signing bonus? Somebody mentioned it was fully guaranteed. Say what!? I didn't know fully guaranteed contracts existed in the NFL.

You'd have to ask the Vikings FO why they did this. It is the first multi-year fully guaranteed contract for a QB. This is not good for other teams that may want to sign a good FA QB in the future. It's also not good for teams that will try to resign their own QB's. The Texans may be in a bad position when Watson's contract is close to expiring.

Cousins gets no bonus. He will be paid $28,666,667 annually. He won't count against the cap, either.

following reportedly occurred an hour ago
Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have created $17.8 million in cap space by restructuring veteran contracts.
Ryan Tannehill dropped his cap number from $19.8 million to $8.6 million, creating $11.2 million in cap space. That $11.2 million will apply to future years.

The other $6.6 million came from the restructuring of safety Reshad Jones’ deal.

Another OT comes off list:
Adam Schefter

Former Bengals’ OT Andre Smith is signing a two-year, $8 million deal that could be worth up to $10.2 million with the Arizona Cardinals, per source.

Rumors don't mean ****. Ask the Titans about this.
Yes, many times they do. They may not pan out to be who they are mentioning but where there is smoke there is fire. It matters not that the rumors are always correct but it does matter that there are rumors. Without them it means the team is mostly inactive.

They would have to be foolish not to go all in on the Honeybadger. Huge upgrade at safety. But as usual, they will sit on their hands and do ****.

It seems they would rather have a handful of Chevy's out of this FA class when they could have 2-3 Caddy's. I mean come on folks on Kirby. JAG's are a dime a dozen and don't win SB's for you. Studs do.

Watson himself said he had to go look at film to see that he might have been injured in the game. IOW based on feel, he didnt notice any injury. Don't act like he got up with some limp that anyone other than Doc noted.

Anyway...this horse has been beaten to death multiple times.

Agreed about beating the horse to death. No minds will be changed.

The OL does still suck though. Expecting BOB to make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t. Appears to be the plan again next year.

Sad isn't it. Particularly when they had the money to fix the problems

Eric Ebron released, another raw TE that never panned out, low risk

Ebron had a little uptick in production during the last half of last season. He started all 16 games in 2017, his first full season since being drafted #10 overall in 2012. I'm interested in giving him a look.

exception meet rule

Can't stand it can you.

Look at the 2016 Falcons while you are at it.
According to that douche Ian Crappaport....

The #Texans are signing former #Saints OL Senio Kelemete to a 3-years, $12M with $5.5M guaranteed, source said.

Never heard of him. But hey, that makes two offensive linemen that weren't an offensive lineman we had last year so hey.

There's a real difference maker

Per Rappaport

Ooops, typing at same time.

If the Texans have a similar off-season this year as last (when they did close to nothing in FA) with 2 different GM's I have to start looking at ownership and BoB. FA is not the be all end all of an NFL franchise's success but when you're limited to what you can do in the draft and you have the cap space to significantly upgrade an entire unit you have to go all in, IMHO.

haven't seen this posted may be why Dolphins increased cap (post above)
The Dolphins will retain RT Ja'Wuan James.
There was speculation James could be moved before his fifth-year option kicked in on Wednesday—the Broncos were one team that had interest—but the Dolphins have decided to stand pat. James will earn $9.3 million in the final year of his rookie deal. Mar 13 - 5:36 PM

I was concerned about his health.

Chill out, saints fans say this kid was pretty good in relief for them. Seems to have been in the same situation as Zach Fulton. A guy who played a lot last year as a back up and did really well playing all over the line but wanted the opportunity to start.

Duane Brown makes around 9.5 mil

But, but, but he's a fist raiser! And that sort of activity really bunches up the panties of the flag wavers.

Solder isn’t worth that much I don’t care how bad we need a LT. All the doom and gloom era need to relax. This was the top offense in football with Watson behind center. The same OL that y’all all think needs a complete overhaul. And yes it needs upgrades but it’s not the end of the world. The right QB and play calling can mask a lot of deficiencies on the OL.

It was a glorious 5 games, the most glorious 5 games of offensive production in franchise history.

But, they play 16+ games. And I hate to be Captain Obvious, but no protection usually results in injuries in this league, especially at the QB position.

So I guess even a good amount of cap space and a great young QB wasn't enough to entice prime free agents to consider this team. I wonder why? (Looking dead at you granddragon Robert McNair)

Yep. The old country saying about the chickens coming home to roost is applicable here.

Perception is reality. And we all know how things on Kirby are being perceived nationally.

First, no trophies are handed out to the salary cap champs. Second, Watson needs time to sit in the pocket and go through his progressions like any other QB, Jacksonville has the best pass rush in the league. Watson can't beat them while on his back.

They are going to get that kid killed if they continue to believe playing linemen out of position and not getting top talent to protect him are satisfactory.

We can all criticize McNair all we want but anyone that knows the right way to run any business, would want to run a company where you have a malcontent brazenly undermining your authority. Especially a player that is popular and influential with the other players. It may have not been the right thing in a football sense, but business-wise, you have to get rid of the cancer in the building. Duane is entitled to express his opinion, but McNair is entitled to run his company how he pleases.

Does McNair plan to fire 30+ "malcontent" players? Who will be left?

All but 10 Texans kneel during anthem in protest of McNair's comments

texans-kneel-102917.jpg

At least you were honest, tho': "It may have not been the right thing in a football sense. . ." That might be part of the Houston Texans, Inc. corporate mission statement.

Kelemete is quality depth. Good 6th man on the OL. I am concerned by the OL history of valuing a guy that “can” play multiple positions ove someone that plays one spot well. But in this case I am on board. Not a splash but an upgrade on OL depth.

any thoughts why Clowney not extended? Just focusing on free agency or...if we don't get a really strong Oline by end of draft a trade of CLowney could become a possibility?

I like Kelemete. He's been a very good fill-in for New Orleans the last few years but wanted to leave for a starting job. Another versatile guy who can play all over just like Fulton. Once again the Texans putting a very high value on versatility.

The Texans are targeting young, versatile swing linemen who have been very good fill-ins but are looking to start. Maybe that helps us as they will be hungry to prove themselves but this is not exactly the splash most fans are looking for. Although this probably spells the end for Jeff Allen so that's nice. We still really need to address OT.

LT - Davenport
LG - Kelemete
C - Martin
RG - Fulton
RT - Henderson

why won't he count against cap?

I was just going off of Spotracs contract information. It could be wrong. But, the Vikings take all the risk of injury by offering the guaranteed contract. If Cousins is injured they lose that money. He's paid the 28+ million (annually) up front regardless of injury.

Anyway, I shouldn't have wrote he doesn't count against the cap as it were fact. I can neither verify or dispute the information on spotrac.

I'm getting that Kelemete is good for a spot starter if someone goes out for brief time, he is not considered a "sit at the big table" candidate for all season.

He sounds serviceable and versatile - and that sounds better than 90% of what we had last Season. Yeah, he should be our 6th man on the line, but even if he becomes a starter, he sounds better than XSF or Allen... And the contract is really reasonable, so I am pretty happy with that signing.

They have improved the depth and versatility of the line but does anyone here really think there is one single difference maker among the 3?

COntract not signed yet so shouldn't be on any site yet. NFL network just said Cousins in air on way now. Also Vikings trading for QB Trevor Siemiens.

This is like slapping a coat of paint and hanging new drapes on an old house that's falling down. Not impressed with Rick...er I mean Brian Gaine.

What sets him apart from Jeff Allen when he was signed?

What is this nonsense whining about "that racist Bob McNair costing us players!!!!!!"

We've signed 3 players and none of them are white. What the **** are you people talking about?

Remember when the Texans signed Jeff Allen and lots of people thought it was a good pick up...

Or when they drafted can’t miss prospect Sux a filo...

Or how the oline has steadily gotten worse under this regime...

This team should be looking at guys that are good enough to compensate for the regression that comes when this coaching staff gets a hold of them.

Picking up guys that were solid elsewhere or just need a little coaching is asking for failure here.

Juwan James
Cam Fleming
Greg Robinson

In that order

After that

Mr. Matthieu come on down

Keep cherry picking; have a blast

how about the broncos with Manning, mostly a FA team. I could go on and on, but this isn't going to change your mind. You've already bought into what McNair has been selling for the last 15 yrs.

But Hey, McNair brought football back to Houston and I'm in the minority that cares about the crap product he consistently puts on the field.

like BL said, the only thing the McNair's have been consistently good at is making bank.

The money he’s getting indicates he’s gonna be a starter somewhere along the line.

And you already have it in your mind that McNair is the boogeyman so yeah you’re right, u should just drop it.

I just want everyone on the MB to be unhappy at the end of the FA period. Good news it basically doesn't matter which moves are made or not made for me to get what I want. Salt is on discount today suckers!
