Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

Not sure who you are reading, but nothing is official until Wednesday 3:00 pm. Lots of position and such, but even the trades could fall through much the free agent signings.

So along these lines...

Multiple league sources have told PFT that, for the most part, the negotiating process has proceeded slowly and tentatively. In most cases, teams are still expressing interest and discussing contracts in terms of general concepts, without many hard, specific offers being made. It’s creating a desire in many reaches of the league to move from negotiation to consummation.

This is the same guy I told you all about last season. Dude is getting his info off of Twitter and using it as his inside source.

Mangler he is their God on Facebook. Dude be doing vids, answering questions as if he's really connected. If you disagree, they will cut you off. Lol

Kinda sorta not crazy about Johnson or Butler. They're both kinda old. I guess the argument though is that we need to win now and if we need to get rid of them after 2 or 3 years of a deal we can.

I'd rather sign like 4 offensive linemen tbh.

THis is the time of year when we dream, exaggerate and create huge improbable (if not impossible) scenarios so I don't get the ""let's settle for one or two really good guys and then sign average players." We have cap space to sign several high dollar players and then have other options to create more space if needed. Several of us have posted scenarios showing how this could be done yet some keep posting we don't have space. I am more concerned that some players like Norwell post above may not want to play for Houston than whether we can pay them. We've posted that we should not get caught up in the "average cost per year" as that is just a general term for identifying the "neighborhood" a contract could be. The key to look for is guaranteed money and some of that is signing bonus which can be divided (prorated) over length of the contract. A player can average $15 million a year but only have a $5 million cap for 2018 for example. I apologise to the majority that know this as it has been discussed often. BTW, we all are aware of Texans history with signing players like Ed Reed in 2012 so don't beat us over the head about Team history. Let's wait until ..say Saturday to condemn Gaines and O'Brien for not signing whom we thought they should have. Monday would be sufficient to start the fire the (fill in your preference) threads..again.

I would call Solder our priority. He needs to get our first call and we need to be ready to pay him more than he is worth. We desperately need a LT and they are really hard to come by - especially if you don‘t have a first or second round pick.

And we really need more O-Line help. I would be ecstatic with Norwell, but if he doesn‘t want to come here, there are several other good players out there.

I know our secondary sucked last year - but I would consider that not big a need as our O-line. Still getting one or two quality players here would be much needed.

If we can get Solder and one or two more quality linemen plus one or two CB/S - I am good. Sure, adding a TE would be nice, you can always use another linebacker or DE - but all of those could come via draft. Fix the line, then the secondary, The rest is gravy.

rotoworld:

North Jersey's Art Stapleton reports free agent OG Andrew Norwell has narrowed his three finalists to the Giants, 49ers, and Colts.

One league source told Stapleton the Giants are "all-in" on Norwell. The All-Pro guard has been linked to the Giants all offseason, but it appears the cap-flush 49ers are making one last push.
Related: Colts, Giants, 49ers

Well, Gaine / Texans put your checkbooks away b/c the Giants are all in on Norwell. Screw that, if Norwell is a definitive target, put a bigger number on the Texans check. Texans are a major step-up over the Giants in regards to team potential going into 2018. The 49's would be the only other team that could sway Norwell in my book b/c their outlook is positive and the FO Team is just plain getting it done.

2 things:

1) How the heck do the Jags still have money to spend?!

2) Texans absolutely could’ve beaten that offer and still had room to get other players.

That‘s a lot of money though. More than 13 million per year? For a guard? Phew... I hope we can get Solder for something like 15 million, and that would be overpaying him. I would have loved to get Norwell, but I would „settle“ with a guard for something like 8-10 million per year...

Looks like Norwell is signing with Jacksoffville. 5 years, 66 million, 30 guaranteed.
lol...and not for the name given for Jacksonville...

Well, the Jaguars just "jacked on" the entire league and mainstream media...absolutely no one, I mean anybody saw them "coming."

Yeah true... I suppose if we can get Solder to come here for a similar amount that’s a win given the importance and scarcity of the LT position...

Just hate to see the Jags adding an all pro O-lineman that seems to be a perfect fit for their smashmouth team!

Norwell was going to get his money from any team he wanted. The player was in control here. Pretty simple if you can accept it.
Plus he gets to play for a very serious contender because no doubt he saw the Jags get to within a few plays of beating the Pats and advancing to the SB.
Gets paid and also goes to a better team than where he was with the Panthers. Win/win for Norwell.

I'm getting a little concerned that we aren't aggressively signing folks. Sounds like solder may be getting away from us.

You could go all in on the front-seven and get either Poe or Richardson for the D-Line. Wilkerson as well. Lotulelei would be a cheap alternative to get more beef up front

Apparently we were after Star until he signed with the Bills. Possible we look into adding depth on the DL.

Austin Howard just got released by the Ravens. He's a average/solid RT.
He was pretty solid as a 13-game starter in 2015, but ended the year on IR with a serious undisclosed knee injury that kept him out until 2016 June minicamp and had him miss several early regular games. He underwent shoulder surgery for both a torn labrum and rotator cuff in mid Jan of 2017. Last season, he showed very average performance, probably a lot to do with his cumulative injury history.

Star just signed and it wasn’t cheap. We can’t address the entire o-line in one off season and also address our horrible defensive backs.

Looking at the list, there are a lot of talented secondary guys that never really panned out that would be worth a look, like Mo Claiborne or Kenny Vaccaro.
