eh dont worry to much about it, he gets butt hurt when people dont agree with him

Oh I'm not worried about it. Cak and I have a long history of arguing and taking things personal in a hurry. But i read a lot of his football opinions and agree with him just as often. Most recently, he and docbar disagree over savage's potential- drafting a rookie- and the Texans' future. I agree wholeheartedly with cak on it that we can't blindly depend on savage. We have to invest in the future and not doing so risks another wasted year.

Kinda like JB mentioned earlier, "inconsequential" arguments. Understanding is lost in translation in a written format. We wouldn't argue as much in person or just speaking normally. More often then not, i see posters here arguing over crap they fundamentally agree on.

I try and "like" a great post no matter who the poster is wether I've argued with them or not.

I'll second that.

3rded.

Can you 3rd your own jackassery?

Not entirely sure why that is but yeah, we seem to set each other off.

Just don't call me probate. Other than that we're good.

And hey if you say spin makes a difference I'll believe you. Doesn't make sense to me but I can't catch.

No worries, i'll 3rd for you.

All i did was mention I think Savage should get a shot at competing lol

Savage SHOULD get a shot at competing but he better not be the only option. I'm buying into the posters pimping Glennon and I still want a first or second round draft pick qb as well.

Lets not make qb an either or proposition. Let's fight it out between an incumbent-vet-high pick.

Thats what i was saying, I want to draft a QB rd 1 or 2 and let him and Savage duke it out with whoever else potentially gets brought in this offseason.

I want Hoyer gone, retired and just faded away back into that big pit of despair in which he came from, Cleveland......

Mike Glennon 2013 Draft Profile Do we really we really want another team's 3rd round pick with accuracy and INT issues?

I'm not hating on him, but does he bring more to the table, besides age, than Weeden?
There are only so many snaps to be had.

Out of Hoyer, Yates, and wheeden, i'd rather see wheeden. Hoyer told you all you need to know against kc. Yates is a marginal talent familiar with the system and likely to be available whenever we want him. Wheeden has better tools then the other 2 and i'd like to think Cleveland squandered him. He's the devil we dont know.

I'd like to see us go into camp with:

Glennon
Savage
Draft pick
Wheeden

Let them duke it out.

Im not crowning him as a starter but if the options are hoyer v Glennon, i'll take glennon.

Hoyer is what he is. Glennon has a better skill set and younger. Good coaching SHOULD effect glennon more then hoyable.

I'll take Uncle Rico over Hoyer. I wasn't aware that Hoyer was part of the equation. If Mr. McNair is indeed with an eye towards ticket sales, merchandising, etc., he'll have the pulse of the fanbase and know that Hoyer returning, in any capacity (other than intern jockstrap holder), he'll have a full fledged fanbase revolt.

Until we formally cut hoyer I think ob is stubborn enough to bring him back. He's on the team so he's in the conversation.

What's your solution to the qb problem doc?

Draft pick, RGIII, Savage, Weeden in alphabetical order. I prefer no one be named starter until after OTA's and mini camp. I would use RGIII in much the same way Seattle uses Wilson.

Are you willing to use a first round pick on a qb? Are you willing to trade up in the first round?

A veteran of that great Browns QB factory*, sounds good! Hell, keep Hoyer too ... good completion percentage and rating this year! We can assemble the worst backups in the league and let them compete for a starting spot in closed practices.

*DB do you still have the factory picture?

What's the cap hit if hoyer is cut. If he's cut then smith would have wasted more money and OB would have to flat out swallow his pride. I'd be shocked if hoyer was cut. Wouldn't be the first time this team carried dead weight

According to Overthecap.com if Hoyer is cut there is $0 dead money and almost $5million is cap savings... would be silly NOT to cut him

I was looking over quarterbacks available in free agency and didnt notice Brady, Rodgers, Newton, or anyone else noteworthy. Our options are limited to back ups in free agency, trade, and or draft. The only exception might be cousins.

Who do YOU suggest scooty?

Except there is no way Cousins hits the FA market. I don't see them keeping RGIII. They will either work out a contract with Cousins or tag him. Our best bet is trade for a current backup and draft the best we can...

The Rams may be willing to trade Foles if they draft a QB high... that doesn't sound very enticing to me

I suggest a guy that isn't 6-19 as a starter. I suggest not getting excited by a guy who's lesser than the fail that is Hoyer. I suggest not getting your hopes up on a 32 year old sophomore with little experience and no positive results.

My strategy would be to go into the season with Yates and Keenum and take Bridgewater at #1. Oops. I let Yates and Savage compete (legitimately) in camp, though Savage has only played 2 college seasons and some preseason/practice work since 2008 so I expect him to be on the chopping block. I'd take the TK approach and see what the Bengals want for McCarron. If we can acquire him in trade for players/picks or at worst a Matt Schaub deal I'd be all over it. I'd also use the #1 selection on the top QB on the board, possibly using next year's 2nd+ picks to trade up if necessary. Like 2014 and unlike 2015 - there are several options in this draft that have a chance to be good. To have the bat on our shoulders again would be unforgivable.

So you want:

Yates
Savage
McCarron
Draft pick

instead of what i offered up:

Glennon
Savage
Draft pick
Weeden

Which sounds fine either way I guess but #1 are the Bengals willing to trade McCarron? #2 We have to give up something to get McCarron.

I dont think McCarron is that much better then Glennon honestly and would rather not give up draft picks for him when your also dedicating picks to move up in the draft.

(Looks for a place to hide before TK reads my negativity toward McCarron :spy:)

Site's being weird again, I click reply and it posts your quote, then half way through my actual post it disappears when I change tabs.

IMO the two scenarios are worlds apart. Glennon and Weeden combine for an 11-32 record. They'll turn 27 and 32 years old during this season. I know that Hookem makes quite a case, but what have either done that suggest they're franchise material? I trade for McCarron as a potential starter. Glennon and Weeden aren't players, they're insurance policies - and bad ones - like Hoyer.

McCarron is 2006 Schaub. Glennon is Hoyer. and Weeden is a 32 year old WTF was anyone thinking.

If there's a QB that the team has just fallen in love with, then yes to both, as long as it's not more than swapping 1st's and one more pick from this draft.

I'm superstitious about picking a QB at 22, so yeah...

Yates and Weeden dont strike me as that different career wise. Neither has accomplished much and cant be expected to bloom into a starter. The tie breaker for me is Weeden's arm and experience. He's startered 25 games vs 9 for yates.

Glennon's had flashes just like McCarron but didnt have the benifit of a great supporting cast in TB. McCarron was surrounded by a strong supporting cast with multiple pro bowlers (5 + 3 alternates.) Glennon was surrounded by new offensive coordinators with a new offense 3 times.

If you like McCarron more I get it but neither are established. I dont think our scenerios are worlds apart at all. I just think mine's not as far fetched as yours because i'm not counting on making the aj trade.

Ultimately, who cares? This team isnt carrying 4 quarterbacks very far into preseason. If we have to rely on yates or weeden for more then 1-2 starts we're screwed.

I like McCarron, but it would really piss me off if the Texans traded for a QB they could've drafted. I guess I could choose to look at it as the Texans admitted their mistake and doing the best they can to correct it.

True...they'll probably have to pay the franchise qb salary which is more then i'd be comfortable doing for him anyway.

I've no interest in Foles either ,but I didnt watch him much this year.

He'll cost better then a 5th round pick right now

I just don't see Cincy trading McCarron at all unless a team blows them away with a Shaub like deal.

Hoyer was an undrafted free agent. Weeden was rated a high second/low first whose primary negative was his age. If not for his age, some evaluators had him as a potential top 10 draft pick. There is no comparison between the skill level of the two. Weeden now has 4 years of seasoning in the NFL and should be entering the prime of his years without a history of injury. He's about the same age as Carson Palmer when signed by Arizonia. Dismissing the potential of this player would be a serious mistake.

That may be what it takes, but you have to see the other side as well. They've paid and committed to Dalton, and McCarron per their hopes doesn't see another snap in Cincinnati. There is no better time for the Bengals to sell. He's under contract through 2017, and will most certainly NOT re-sign to be Dalton's backup. He'll also lose a considerable amount of value aging on the 2016 shelf.

Cinci has 2 options, let him rot as a cheap capable backup and then draft his replacement, or trade him now for a high value. Neither is a wrong answer.

No. It hurts my brain to attempt to expand on how fubar it was to draft him at the top of any round, but ... no. And to compare him to Palmer? No. A 32 year old 'entering his prime' with fewer pass attempts than 23 year old Blake Bortles? No.

No.

I'd take the TK approach and see what the Bengals want for McCarron.

Officially, my position is that McCarron was on the board when we picked Savage. I'm taking that to mean the Texans believe Savage was a better fit. McCarron's "ok" performance with the Bengals doesn't have me wanting to trade for him. It just sets the floor for what I expect Savage to do with O'b.

I'm expecting Savage to play that well or better. A viable starter, but wouldn't mind an upgrade. I like Connor Cook at 22. I wouldn't trade up to get someone if I think I can get Cook at 22.

Cincy has no good reason to part with McCarron while he's got two years left on his cheap deal, short of some team offering a bundle for him.

McCarron? Really?

Some of you need some sense slapped into you. I know QB Lust is running rampant in Houston but come on!

What do you have against McCarron? I liked him a lot coming out of college and he played damn well this season when Dalton couldn't go.

He was drafted where he was for a reason. Just because two QB's drafted in late rounds have had success in the last 20 years doesnt mean it will happen again.

From what I read, he was drafted where he was because he came off way too arrogant and cocky during interviews with teams. He was rated in the 1st or second round.

I think that reason is getting fuzzier & fuzzier. Maybe the NFL is looking for something different. A more athletic quarterback seems all the rage. But McCarron is a prototypical sized QB from a pro system, checked all the boxes... may not have the strongest arm, but definitely strong enough.

IMO, he's every bit a first rounder as Sam Bradford, Matthew Stafford, even Philip Rivers. Connor Cook should also be a first rounder, but judging from the media noise now, he may be overlooked. Kevin Hogan... the NFL used to drool for a guy with his measurables, his performance, & his experience 3+ years starting. Now...... may be a day three guy. Doesn't make sense to me.
