I will admit that each time one of these threads gets started, I take it a little personally. I should just get over that, but maybe people should think twice about posting threads criticizing fans at the game. Yes, there are lots of potted plant fans (lol, TC), but more than likely they are not reading this.
I started the thread, and I realize several people are taking it personally, but really, it's not meant as criticism. It's really an "I don't understand this" thing. To me (and I don't consider myself poor), those tickets are expensive, and it really seems strange to me that someone wouldn't be making an effort to be there at the start - feels like a waste of money! Then, at the end of the game, it just seemed bizarre to me to leave when it was that close. Maybe the feel at the game was different than watching it on TV, but to me, there was even more tension/excitement (and yes, disappointment) going into the last drive, not less. I mean, if there's any time to stay and watch a football game, wouldn't that be it? I'm not saying this in the "you're not a real fan" sense, but in an "isn't this one of the reasons people buy tickets to the game in the first place" sense. I figured there had to be some reason (and the heat makes a lot of sense) for why so many seats were empty.

(***pssst, despite my avatar I am not that person - I'm actually right behind Toro and well, the boy's got a huge head!!!)
Oh the humanity.

There are a ton of hardcore Texans fans that can't afford tickets. Even the cheap tickets are twice as expensive as say, a Rockets ticket.I'm not speaking about the slow arrivals or the people in the concourses during the meat of the game due to the inappropriate stadium design when the roof is open in a City this hot, because most of the fans were in the house so I'm not gonna judge them.... but it was downright sad how empty the stadium was on the final drive...kinda disheartening to see how small the hard core base really is. This stuff takes time and winning will cure much of that and the base will grow broader, unless we continue to lose of course.
You're a closet 3&2 beer lover????![]()
There are only 8 home games so football is pretty unique in the pro sport realm. Football will never be as cheap as baseball or basketball. There are a ton of hardcore Texans fans that can't afford tickets. Even the cheap tickets are twice as expensive as say, a Rockets ticket.

Bottom line is, every NFL fan base deals with this and their are plenty of people who can afford a seat in the Greater Houston area and beyond. It will be interesting to see what happens when our no-blackout grant is lifted. Now that most teams have these new super corporate driven stadiums this is a larger issue than it was in the Oiler days for sure though, you are right about that.
I thought that was over the season before last? It was only through 5 seasons, right?![]()
I think this has been posted in thsi thread like 10 times, lmao.
IIRC, it was 5 years.
We're in no danger, IMHO, of a black out. The problem isn't ticket SALES, it's getting those tickets through the turn style.
I've been invited to the old fart brigade for what seems like pretty obvious reasons now. I think I feel sometimers disease creeping in.I think this has been posted in thsi thread like 10 times, lmao.

I couldn't agree more. But this thread isn't about how lousy the team looks. It is about the empty seats.......wait, I think I see a connection. And maybe the noon start affects many.
It doesn't look good on TV.
Ummm, bad example.. The Rays had terrible attendance all year long until the playoffs started. They finished 26 out of 30 teams in attendance - not good for a team that played consistently good baseball all season long...
I was there before kickoff but left with everyone else after schaub apparently threw another pick, it looked like a pick to me, was disappointed to hear the texans won when I walked out on them, oh well
You walked out on the team. Why not just keep walking and never come back..lol.

I think the Texans just might teach Houstonians not to leave a game until the fat lady sings. With this team - you never know.
We need yall there to give our team the home field advantage at kickoff and the first series on offense and d-fense
There was less than a minute to go when most people walked outI don't question his fandom by his leaving early. This fan like me drives hundreds of miles to see the Texans play. Many fans in Houston are no shows with our present record. So not showing vs leaving early?

Hey, I'm a healthy person but the heat inside of Reliant in the sun gives me a few problems. There is no breeze inside the stadium at all. When we left the game, there was a very nice breeze outside, more refreshing after a win.
I think there are a lot of fans that are new to the stadium and really don't have a sense of how long it takes to get into the stadium and then get to their seats.
It's not making excuses. It just is reflecting reality. I'd like people to get into the stadium earlier and stay until the very end, but for a lot of people, that isn't going to happen.
The good news is those of us diehards who stay until the end are the ones that make all the noise anyway. The potted plant fans don't do squat.
I have to admit, Davis' catch in that game is by far the biggest play in Texans history for me.and they deserved to be disappointed!! JMO! I remember being so ticked off at the Titan's game last year I wanted to leave and never go back! As I was walking the concourse looking for something to HIT because I was so mad at my team, I heard a HUGE roar from the crowd. Made my way over to the rail and watched Sage take our guys down the field. I found a seat on the 40 yd line where I watched some of the most exciting LAST few minutes of any TEXAN home game ever witnessed, and I have seen them all. No, we didn't win, BUT, we damn sure came close, and I will NEVER forget those last couple minutes where our TEXANS played some of the best comeback football I had ever seen.
Well guess what you are gonna get a lesson in fandom...from this koolaid drinking battle red revolution startin...getting banned for using turpitude in the wrong way ( jk: runner) loud as heck Texan fan from San Antonio.(sec 140)( Track me down regs)
i got tired of hearing yall whine so its time to teach yall why teams come to San Antonio and more often than not get beat. Its not because of the 4 time champions its because of me. the games I go to they win because I yell my freaking head off. hell yeah. empty seat my arse... its only gonna be empty cause im standing up yelling to motivate my team to victory.
MY BETTLE CRY WILL ROCK THE LIONS TO THEIR CORE.
(BATTLE RED BEEEEEEEYOTHCES)

Whatever, isn't that you sitting in the club level during the Miami game?
Nah, I'm the durned fool trying to get the people behind the Bull Pen Pep Band to make some noise during defense or be quiet when we are on offense. Basically, it is me, KT, the Pep Band and some other random people trying to get that side of the stadium not to be so lame. Some times we succeed.

Nope. And I don't wear suits unless I absolutely have to any more. And I don't do conference calls either. I could go the entire rest of my life without ever being on one of those thingies. I must admit to liking wine and cheese. But never during a Texans game.

You guys missed one of the main reasons you saw empty seats. It's hot as hell in the NEZ. Fans roam the concourse, visit the cantina's and pubs, watch the game from the mounted TVs all over the place. Some people just can't take the intense heat, I am one of them. Be it due to age, illness, whatever, they will not stay in their seats, BUT, they are still at the game. Don't blame them for what they choose to do. Most of them are diehard TEXAN fans or they wouldn't be there in the first place. I went to the Bullpen Pub toward the end of the second quarter and the place was hopping. The balcony area was packed with smokers and people who just wanted to feel the breeze. The concourse behind the Bullpen was very busy, and there were people three deep standing at the rails watching the game. Just hope for some cooler weather come November. Our two upcoming 3 pm games should make a difference in what you see also. The fans are there, you just don't see them all on TV.
It was warm, but not that hot. In the sun, I can see, but its the way football should be, in the elements.
We shall se then...we shall see.....
