Week 8: Texans vs Panthers- Battle of The Rookie Quarterbacks

Smart b/c they eventually go out. At one point I used to have all that free streaming stuff and none of them ever last.
There will always be others... Use a site that has multiple options... like reddit and others

Steel,
Was wondering what your issue is with it on YouTube TV?.
This is my first year springing for Sunday ticket so I have nothing to compare it to.
Seems fine to me. My brother in law in Buffalo can watch his stupid Eagles at the same time I watch the Texans without issue, which I think is pretty cool.
Direct TV was much more user friendly.

I’m a culturally Deaf person. I hate it because they have fewer stuff that is closed captioned since they moved over there from Directv. I need the closed captioning or I can’t watch. It sucks.

thanks,
Being my first time I don't have any good or bad to compare it to. I do like that you can get from game to game quicker than I remember from being at a friends house who had it on direct tv.
Next question for those out there. Is it worth it to upgrade to the 4K feed???

I don’t have any issues with it as well. My coworker is a Saints fans, so we would have either teams game on the TV and the other game on my iPad.

Closed captioning is very important to me even though I don't have hearing issues. There are so many side conversations that normally I don't get because I'm focused on the main characters. Close captioning helps me with that. I have it on my TV constantly.

One historical lesson I've learned from the Texans is when I expect them to win there's gonna be problems. And I expect them to win.

So there's gonna be problems.
This is why IMO this is a must win game. Not for the sake of the season... but winning the games they should win would go a long way in convincing me and Im sure others, the change is real rather than a shine that is soon to tarnish.

IF they don't win I wont be of the mind set that the sky is falling, but... I understand "any given Sunday".... it just means I will need that much more convincing down the line to undo the decades of conditioning before I can believe whole heartedly the change is genuine.

This is pretty much meaningless but I was curious so I looked it up. In the last 10 years the Texans are 6-4 in the games following the bye week.

2013: (Bye Week: 8) Colts - L 24 - 27
2014: (Bye Week: 10) Browns - W 23 - 7
2015: (Bye Week: 9) Bengals - W 10 - 6
2016: (Bye Week: 9) Jaguars - W 24 - 21
2017: (Bye Week: 7) Seahawks - L 38 - 41
2018: (Bye Week: 10) Commanders - W 23 - 21
2019: (Bye Week: 10) Ravens - L 7 - 41
2020: (Bye Week: 8) Jaguars - W 27 - 25
2021: (Bye Week: 10) Titans - W 22 - 13
2022: (Bye Week: 6) Raiders - L 20 - 38

I'll have to stick with my free streaming :D
Which site do you go to? I remember Buffstreams and Sportsurge, I think that is two of them. They shut down the Reddit threads that had good quality streams a couple of years ago.

Most streams are usually a pain, because I have to restart the stream ever so often, can't really pause it either, and the resolution is not great. But that looks like what I will have to do this Sunday.

I use sportsurge and usually streameast for football, though I will checkout Volokit2 and Dofu to see how they are working. I have a fast internet and don't usually have problems. I haven't had to use it much this year

I wish more people left it on 24/7. It benefits -everybody-. Especially kids learning how to read.

I'll use it if there are sound issues with what I'm watching, ie the background music/noise is tuned too loud to hear the dialogue, or if it's a chore of an accent to follow closely. But otherwise I can't have it on because it distracts too much for me from what's physically going on on screen. I get caught up just staring at the bottom of the screen and reading along to the point of not actually watching what's unfolding above it - the acting, scenery, etc. Hell, at that point I'd rather just see if there's a book version.

Throughout the years, dialogues can be difficult to listen to, especially in movies.

In the old days:
Some actors mumble more than others.
Some old southern accents and dialects can be really hard to follow.

The problems nowadays:

.

My becoming hard-of-hearing also didn't help.
Now, I've always have to have CC on.

Yeah. Understood and respected. That’s likely because you’re not accustomed to it 24/7 just as much as I am unaccustomed to sound. I can’t watch football with my hearing aids on. I found myself focusing on hearing how a “pow” sounds instead of actually watching it. Funny how that works, eh? I guess you could think as if It becomes “background essential” to your viewing pleasure. Kind of like how you have the sound on. It doesn’t distract you from watching it… yet it would be very difficult for you to watch football without the sound. The captioning is my sound. The text is in the background of my eyes. Trust me… I’m watching football.

Hope that makes sense.

Over time… the captioning/sounds will become background noise to most people. Not all though. As a result… I always leave the sound -and- captioning on at all times… except for when Cowherd comes on. I mute that screeching mudda.

One thing I noticed during COVID is I had a hard time understanding some people. I never realized how much I depended on reading peoples lips when talking until everybody was wearing a mask.
Thank you for sharing. I didn’t realize that hearing people struggled with the masks too. COVID is and continues to be devastating for me and my community. Those masks. In fact… it was discussed in this magazine article that they did on my company.

Excerpt from it…

However, KLS still regularly faces discrimination as a deaf-owned and operated business.

Recently, the company was awarded some work by a major industry player. While performing the work, a store manager became upset when the crew asked him to either remove his mask, so the crew could read his lips, or to write down what he was saying.

“He got very agitated that we could not understand him and kept yelling at us,” Keathley said. “I kept telling him we are deaf and that we can’t tell what he’s saying, but he became so agitated by this that I could do nothing but walk away and continue to finish our work.”

Although the team finished the job and the customer was happy with the results, Keathley was shocked by their lack of understanding when it comes to communicating with deaf people. “What if another customer refuses to proactively communicate with me or my team?” he said. Although his company appreciated the work, it put Keathley in a difficult situation. “We cannot allow them to hold our disability against us as a condition of employment, so we chose to let them go as a customer.”

And then add the plexiglass between you and the person behind the counter so the sound doesn’t fully transfer.

What a tragic comedy COVID made our lives. Can’t help but laugh. Especially all the kids that missed about a year of school and going to be a little slower.

Wow..... I hear stories like that and it makes me want to pull out the universal sign language to the person refusing to simply write something down at the very least.

Its just one finger and an up motion but its very effective in communicating a point. Works great in traffic.

My wife says I should "control my anger better." I say, "No, others need to control their stupid."

It's not hard to put forth a tiny bit of effort to communicate with people effectively.

Yes, it was terrible as MWS said. Especially when you had to visit a medical professional and neither party could understand the other.

I finally got hearing aids last February after many years, probably about 10 years of struggling to hear people clearly. It was nearly impossible for me to hear people in masks during the pandemic. I’d ask them to repeat themselves over and over and they’d get pissed off. I hated it. Even with my aids I still struggle but its better. I can’t imagine not being able to read lips because of masks…….

We encountered this issue at the chemical plant/refinery I manage as well. It’s really loud when out in the process units so the guys sounded muffled when talking over their radios. Bad enough to the point that there were a couple of minor chemical spills due to communication issues. It was one thing after another. We had been riding a six year injury/incident free record before this whole COVID fiasco.

I ordered a “Safety Stand Down” and got to the bottom of it, my job technically depended on it. Sure enough, half of the guys suffered hearing loss for years of working in loud environments and relied on reading each other’s lips to better communicate. Well, all it took was a conversation while sipping bourbon with the VP (which happens to be my best friend and son in law to the plant owner) and within two days they let me do away with all the COVID bs rules. The owner sent me an email saying he’d take full financial responsibility for any state fines, treatment, and paid time off for employees that tested positive for Covid. Everyone was happy and were now riding a 3+ year incident/injury free record with no loss time. Me standing up for the guys ended up bringing us even closer than we were before.
(We were also one of the only plants that didn’t require the death shot in order to keep or get a job with us)

Trap game!
I know that was about me and that is fine but based on the upsets we have seen so far this season I know there is a real chance we will overlook the Panthers and lose the game. Call it whatever you want. I just hope our focus is on playing our best possible game and we are prepared to play a highly motivated Panthers team!

My guess is the Panthers will follow the Atlanta and NO game plan on Defense. CJ struggled some with those looks. A very healthy run game would be one counterpoint. The Panthers haven’t shown a good run defense…so there is some hope on that front. I also want to see more Boone and Singletary and less DP.

And With the bye week Bobby and crew came up with a handful of ways to beat that defense through the air as well…I hope!

I am mildly confident but it also wouldn’t shock me if the Texans lay an egg. I have TTSD. That’s Texans traumatic stress disorder. I have seen too much. The struggle is real.

This is a must win game because winning it means there will be more must win games in the future. And must win games are so much more fun that who cares games.

No, it's been a running joke since...the last trap game. All games should be considered trap games from here on.

Both the Saints and the Falcons are top ten in points allowed.
It's not the game plan as much as the talent level, IMHO.

Texans offense 12th in passing yards, 28th in rushing yards, 22nd in total TDs.
Panthers offense 26th in passing yards, 25th in rushing yards, 21st in total TDs.

Texans defense 16th in passing yards, 10th in rushing yards
Panthers defense 4th in passing yards, 25th in rushing yards

And both teams are coming off a bye week.

There were games in which the Panthers fell behind big and/or early; their opponents were content to run the ball down their throat.

Sounds familiar? :hankpalm:

The biggest change I hope to see out of the ball on both sides:

Offense - Get the running game going. Having the bye week to get healthy will help. Having the same starting five for the third game in a row will help as well.

Defense - Finish plays. Whether that’s turning pressure into sacks or finishing tackles when they swarm to the ball. Just finish it. Bend but don’t break seems to be the recipe for this defense, but more finishing of plays will put some bite in this defense.

I'm going to expect Bryce Young to play as well as Desmond Ridder, if not better. I'm sure he (BY) will have a career day.

So Cj & crew better figure how to score some points.

There's no difference, other than bad weather won't kill your satellite signal with YouTube. I had DirecTv For 15 years with Sunday Ticket.

I only pay for Sunday Ticket, not YouTube TV and it is my understanding you have to have YouTube TV to record the games. With DirecTV I could record them and watch later if I was travelling.

If there is a way to record w/o paying for YouTube TV I would appreciate the info!

Young will be trying as hard as possible to make this untrue. I think he'll take it as a personal challenge and we'll get his best game so far this year.
Agree. However, I reckon the pressure to win this game coming down from their FO is real.
Let's hope the pressure gets to Young and the rest of the organization.

You can purchase the NFL Ticket on YouTube TV now. That’s what I paid for.

Yes… there is. For example…. Cheaper to just pay for NFL+. It’s like $15 a month. You get the all-22 included as well as reruns of all games. Condensed too!

I have NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube but I don't pay the extra monthly cost for YouTube TV and was told you have to have the latter to record the games to the cloud.
I thought with Sunday ticket you could watch any game any time, even older games from this season.

Texans with the 5th highest completion percentage allowed and 6th worst 3rd down defense. Along with fewest sacks and tackles for loss and most missed tackles.
