Week 5 Gameday Thread: Buffalo the Bills

Well not the greatest. Our defense is creating turnovers but our offense looks shaky. We better step it up in time to play you guys or we’re in trouble.

I think most of us Texans fans feel the same way about facing the Packers. Good luck to both teams...except when we play your favorite team, the Pack. Let them not be back. :-)

The pessimist in me is worried as hell that this is a house of cards, or like the 3 little pigs that built their house out of straw. Yes they find ways to win at the end, but water finds its level and these things will even out if they don’t drastically improve.

But the optimist in me says look they are 4-1 and seem to find ways to win. Something a little different each week. This can be character building. And if they improve, the sky is the limit.

I remember an Oilers team…very early 90’s. They started kinda shaky. Someone can help me here, but they were something like 2-3 and just didn’t look great doing it. Then they got their **** together and reeled off 11 straight. Numbers may be a shade off…but close.

Point is…this team has that kind of ability. 11 straight ability? I doubt that…but they could do something special this year IF they just stop beating themselves, and if the coaches learn to put them into the best position to succeed.
They're building the team right now. It's not built. We've got the pieces, more or less, now it's time for the coaches to coach, to make them a team. Find out what they do well & what they don't. Find new & innovative ways to do more of what they do well & less of what they don't.

Hopefully my emotions aren't blinding me & I am actually seeing improvement but right now I'm taking it on faith.

I'm happy with the defense - now we just got to get that oline into some resemblance to a top ten unit.
Make that happen and Texans will be serious SB contenders.
Oline is our biggest weakness right now - if our line can match the opposite dline, our running game opens up despite who is back there and CJ will feel a lot more confident and not be pressured as often.

I gotta a question. Now that we've seen the new H-Town uniforms, what did yall think of them? They were kinda of meh to me. I really like that helmet, always have since I first saw it. But the uniforms were nothing special. I thought the H-Town logo in the middle of the field looked good.
I like em for an alternate. My kid said they kinda look like spider man. Idk.

We've been complaining about the o-line for years, and every year they give us reason to complain.
The investments we've made into that one unit reminds me of the social security payments they take out of my check every week.. I'm sure I won't see a penny of that either. The ROI there has been a collective bust so far. Still don't know why they decided to give Tytus Howard that contract.. I always thought he was below average/overrated.

Yes, well, I do see a penny of your social security payments every week in my bank account. I'd appreciate it if you'd keep paying it. :)

As to our o-line, think of it the same as potholes. They both cause damage and neither gets fixed.

I would let him walk. He will want starter money, and I’d have him around only as a backup and ST guy. I’d draft or sign his replacement in the 25 off-season.

He’s a tweener. 1/3 each corner, LB, safety. Jack of all trades…master of none.

I like pitre, but hes a replacement level player at this point. Every team has guys like this though.

If you can upgrade him or replace him for fairly the same caliber player at a cheaper rate, you do it. But I dont think hes so bad that he just absolutely has to go. Not yet at least.
Agreed, just because Lovie wanted Petrie and Caserio spent a 2nd rd pick on him doesn't mean he shouldn't be upgraded on. If Caserio has proven one thing , it's that he will cut his losses admit his mistakes is what makes Caserio a great GM. Unlike previous GM's BOB/RS/Casserly.

……….and if the coaches learn to put them into the best position to succeed.
That is such a lame and overused line of analysis. It’s just another play calling bash. Without specifics, it means nothing.

Well, since it’s every year, the complaints lose their impact. Little like crying wolf.
