Week 4 Game Thread: Texans Have Shovel Ready to Bury Jags

So in other words if we played a perfect game while converting on all our opportunities we would win, assuming of course the Jags aren’t given that same grace. Deep. Seemed to me Lawrence missed far more opportunities than CJ did.
That’s essentially the same thing you’re trying to say about Lawrence and the Jags.. if they played a perfect game they win. Reality is that’s what the game is..seeing which team takes the most advantage of the opportunities they are given…& no team hits on them all..so it’s a pointless exercise b/c each team can claim the exact same thing.

The Bills game is going to be tough. It looks like the Ravens are going to take them to the woodshed and embarrass them on Sunday night football. They will likely have blood in there eye and want to take it out on us. If we play anything near what we did today, they will curb stomp us even worse than the Vikings did.

I don't know about this anymore. I'm wondering if the Colts were just that bad week 1. This OL run blocking has just been chaotic. Nothing makes sense.
Unfortunately, this OL is 100% on Caserio. For all of the offseason accolades he got, he completely blew it with the OL. Big $$ extensions for LT & Howard. Believing PFF grades on Mason and not upgrading there. Drafting Kenyon Green with the 15 overall pick. Trading up to get Juice Scruggs. It all falls on Caserio.

Game 1. 5 for 30 yds.
Game 2. 12 for 115 yds.
Game 3. 11 for 88 yds.
Game 4. 12 for 93 yds.

An average of 10 penalties and 81.5 ypg is not what good teams do. This needs to be addressed and fixed - NOW!
Yeah... people should boycott the team, sell their tickets, burn jerseys.... wonder if we can get mattress Mac to take out a full page add in the chronicle.

It's the NFL, man. Sometimes you get your rear kicked. Sometimes you kick rear. Most times it's close. And I'm rarely surprised if any of those occur in any game.

If tonight's game has shown anything, it's that the Bills are suspect vs the run. They were allowing 4.7 yards/rush going into SNF. When you score 37 ppg, that doesn't matter. But that kind of production isn't sustainable.

Now can the Texans take advantage of the Bills weakness? To be seen.

Why is Lawrence even mentioned in the same breath as Stroud? Stroud is so much more than Lawrence and it's about dang time people realized it

Bills run a lot of zone. It’s not a coincidence that Stroud’s first 300 yard game this season came against a team playing primarily man coverage. Zone defenses have slowed him down and his game splits show that.

But there is opportunity running the ball against a defense playing heavy zone coverage as we saw week 1 against the Colts. The Texans really need Mixon back this week to keep drives on schedule.

My biggest concern….is CJ developing happy feet in his sophmore season? This could happen if the OL doesn’t get itself together as a unit and stop making stupid penalties that kill drives or big plays. The run game had a nice game in WK1, but the wheels have come off since. Even in WK2, Mixon was averaging a robust 2.6 YPC before he got injured. The running game went into the crapper at the kickoff of the Bears game.

It’s time for the team (Slowick) to change the approach offensively. He’s got to go to a quick read/hit passing game to get defenses to back off the box or blitzes…..mostly to help the OL. As for the Bills game, and how some teams designate a LB or S to handle shadow duties, I’d seriously game plan Dell and Metchie as the zone defense buster by breaking their routes and sitting in the zone when they spot the dead area.

Anyone else notice how CJ sailed a couple of crucial passes, I’m positive that the batted balls were in his head. The good, he didn’t get any balls batted at the LOS. He’ll get this adjusted and get back to hitting Nico when he’s open for a TD.

Nice block by Stover on the TD!

I’m reading the game replies today. I was on the phone with my son/daughter during the game. When Diggs was on his way to scoring…..the first thing out of my mouth, what a block by Stover to spring him for the TD!!!! Made one block then disengaged and made the block that allowed Diggs to score, that was plenty awesome by a rookie TE.

Demeco plays the same defense every week. Soft zone will make every qb look good

The secondary is mostly as good as the front seven putting pressure on the QB. This game, the DE’s were neutralized (mostly by a shite ton of uncalled holding calls) by the Jags OT’s and TE’s. The DB’s always look/play better when the front seven are getting after/to the QB. I’m sure Caleb Williams would concur with this assessment.

When does coaching play a role? Because that many penalties shows poor coaching. And whoever let the o-linemen walk out with red gloves on white jerseys should be punished.

I have said this for weeks. CJ has not looked as crisp this season. Still a star and still my QB by far, but he's making uncharacteristically bad throws at times. Could be the way defenses play him, could be sophomore slump, could be the OL causing him to develop happy feet and his internal clock not working right, I don’t know. But he is a highly accurate QB, so when he misses throws it's obvious.

Dare showed me something yesterday. He should no longer be considered an afterthought on offense and a ST only guy. Dude can play. He's certainly not special, but he showed a little juice, caught the ball well and can block as well. Good job Dare and game ball well-deserved!

It’s not a pointless exercise other than for you. Point I got out of Austin’s post is CJ can’t continue to cover for the sins of his teammates because a better QB than TL will eat up those mistakes. CJ played at a top notch level and had over twice the passing yards as TL…but it took a heroic effort to pull out a win with 18 seconds left. That’s not pointless.

CJ also missed a few big throws earlier that would have made the game much easier. He was not his normal sharp self .

Was he in a clean pocket or running for his life again? Doesn’t matter. He will never play a perfect game but he played about as perfect as he could under the circumstances. He’s pretty good when 345 passing yards behind that OL’s baloney is not his normal sharp self. This type of football is not sustainable.

I see a ton of negativity yet y'all would never trade him for anyone other than Mahomes. Kinda hilarious tbh

Pretty good isn’t going to cut it against a contender that’s hot right now like the Bills. If they don’t iron out several issues, they could exposed next week as paper tigers.
Any team can be exposed when they don't take care of the fundamentals. There are some games where the most talented teams play horrible and look like paper tigers so to speak. The key is to have as few of those as possible! Very rarely will the best teams be exposed but at the same time very few teams dominate all season long! At this time teams are just now beginning to find themselves and nobody is outright taking charge and making most of the rest of the league take notice! That may start taking place soon but it hasn't yet.
