Week 4 Game Thread: Texans Have Shovel Ready to Bury Jags

Texansballer74

The Marine

Both the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3) and Houston Texans (2-1) are coming off embarrassing losses, and they'll meet in an AFC South showdown in Week 4.

It's been a forgettable start to 2024 for Jacksonville after it suffered its third-straight loss in a major thumping from the Buffalo Bills. There was hope this season the Jaguars could contend for a playoff spot, but that will go down the drain if it doesn't get a win soon.
Houston was the latest victim to fall to the surging Minnesota Vikings. The Texans only managed seven points in a 27-point loss on the road after a solid 2-0 start on the season. Houston still has an early lead in the division, and can strengthen it with a win this week.

The Texans are beat up. But the Vikings were beat up last week and gave this team the business.

Time to figure out what type of team we’ve got this year. Next man up. I expect DeMeco to have this team ready to bounce back and make a statement at home against the Jags. Have the Jags wondering when they are going to fire the coach/GM!

Jacksonville ranks tied for No. 8 in the NFL with 3.7 red zone attempts per game, yet it has turned 36.4% of those trips into touchdowns, the sixth-worst mark in the league.

Trey Lawrence has looked lost in every game I have watched him in.........................and in every game I haven't. He misses throws that you just have to ask WTH.

With just a little effort, the Texans pass rush should have a field day.......................Lawrence creates his own sacks, as if they were almost scripted. The pass pro is a sight to behold...............for a blind person.

If you question some of the Texans play calling, you'll probably be quite entertained by the Jags little league counterpart. :D

The Texans are the only AFC South team with 2 wins. But, despite all my negative Jags posts above, if the Texans don't get their "stuff" together for this game, the questionable and many times embarrassing previous performance..................could be multiplied 100-fold if we come in complacent and lose to this hapless team that call themselves the Jags.:texflag:

Funny thing is, if Texans do beat the Jags easily, there will be those who say "Yeah well it's the Jags."
But that's okay. We will just have to see how they go when the going gets tougher.
If the Texans are Super Bowl contenders & the Jags are just working out the timing for firing their HC, then yes, this should be a beat down.

I don't think the Texans are Super Bowl contenders. I think they have the talent & the coaches to be Super Bowl contenders come January & Sunday's game is just part of that process.

I also don't think the decision to fire Pederson has been made or that the team has tuned him out. They're fighting for their lives, this will be their Super Bowl.

Week 4 picks: Who the experts are taking in Texans vs. Jaguars

The Houston Texans (2-1) will battle the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-3) on Sunday, where Houston needs to get back to its winning ways.

Houston is coming off a 34-7 loss against the Minnesota Vikings (3-0), where offense never found an identity. C.J. Stroud threw a pair of interceptions while the offensive line was flagged seven times, including five against Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Houston is a 6.5-point home favorite against the Jaguars, according to BetMGM. But what do the experts think? Here’s a look:

Bottom Line

Almost every expert believes the Texans will come out on top. Here’s how the final tally looks:

Texans: 47
Jaguars: 3

I was traveling last Sunday and therfor unable to watch the game with the Vikings but wow was I stunned when I first saw the final score ! I expected a close game and didn't expect either team to win the way the Vikings did ?
When I first saw the boxscore with the exception of the rushing component of the game it didn't appear to be as dominant a victory as the score of the game would seem to indicate ? Anyway sooner or later I'll watch my recording of the game when I'm sure I'll reach an understanding of what happened including how and why the Texans failed the way they did.
This Sunday then is an opportunity of some redemption and so we shall see what happens tomorrow.

If this game turns out like the Bears game where the Texans let them hang around the entire game instead of administering an all around beatdown then I am going to be disappointed.

If the Jags win well… i’m writing off this season.

Have to bounce back this week! But the real test of what sort of team we have will come next week against the Bills. Contenders or pretenders? I vote contenders!

The biggest matchup to exploit will be Anderson/Hunter vs the Jags OTs. They should be able to keep Lawrence under constant pressure all game. The only positive from the last game was the Texans got 4 sacks despite Darnold having a positive game script all game and only 28 pass attempts. This defense can rush the passer. Just give the other team a reason to throw it!

Engram being out should be no surprise...................he suffered a very significant Grade II hamstring tear less than 2 weeks ago.

Mixon returning to limited practice on a walk-thru Friday mean little and should not be a basis for allowing him to play in 48 hours.

Collins has no business playing Sunday, as I explained in the Injury Thread.

I don’t think Mixon plays on a limited Friday practice. They elevated J.J. Taylor from
the practice squad again which indicates they are sticking with the same RB room as last game. But the Texans have done stranger things…

I really hope Nico doesn’t play if he pulled a hammy Thursday. That’s just a recipe for a more significant re-injury then we have Nico in/out of the lineup all season like 2011 Andre Johnson. You rostered 7 WRs. Diggs is healthy so you still have an alpha in the room. Put them to work!

Some have renamed Lawrence "the blond Daniel Jones"....he has looked that bad. I believe that the Jags lost 5 of their last 6 games last season. They have not looked any better through the first 3 games this year. If we beat the Jags, it is in no way time to crack open the champagne. If this game is not a beatdown, it is time to crack the whip hard on both the players and the coaches. And if this, heaven forbid results in a loss, it's time to purchase a couple more nails for the coffin.

For some dumb reason the Texans game isn't OTA in NTX this week. Really frustrating. No reason to have Minnesota/Green Bay instead.

I hate watching sports with a streaming delay.

Anyway, let's bounce back and beat Jacksoffville like we know we should.

Texans/Jags by the numbers

It was a tough week in Minnesota, but hopefully a full NRG Stadium welcoming the good guys back to Houston will be just the right tonic for this week's matchup against the Jaguars. Let's dive into the numbers for this one.

2 - The Texans will face their second #1 overall NFL Draft pick thus far this season. First, it was Caleb Williams in the SNF contest at NRG, then there's this one against Trevor Lawrence.

4 - In fact, every QB that the Texans faced, and will face on Sunday, has been a top four pick in each player's respective draft.

Anthony Richardson - 4th overall in 2023

Caleb Williams - 1st overall in 2024

Sam Darnold - 3rd overall in 2018

Trevor Lawrence - 1st overall in 2021

6 - The Texans won six of seven games last year after a loss. The only game the Texans lost after a previous week's loss was the week two loss to the Colts. They've won their last six in a row immediately after a loss. (Consequently, that means the Texans haven't lost back-to-back games since December 18, 2022.

364 - Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence threw for 364 yards last year in the Jaguars Week 12 win over the Texans.

304 - Texans QB C.J. Stroud threw for over 300 yards in that same Week 12 Texans loss.

2 - Texans DT Tim Settle had the first two sacks of his Texans career last week at Minnesota.

13 - The Texans are on pace to have 74 sacks - 13 sacks in three games in a 17 season. That would shatter the Texans team record, set last year.

23 - If there is anything that DeMeco Ryans wants changed yesterday, it's the Texans penalty situation. The Texans had nearly two dozen in the last two games - Chicago and Minnesota. That's an average of 11.5 per game. The Texans averaged under seven accepted penalties a game last year.

56 - The longest Vikings drive of the game last week was just 56 yards against the Texans.

10 - Since 2018, the Texans have beaten the Jaguars ten times to two wins for the Jaguars against the Texans. The Texans have not lost in Jacksonville/London in that time but have lost the last two to Jacksonville in Houston.

23 - Since a Travis Etienne fumble at the Dolphins goal line in week one, the Jaguars have scored just 23 points over the last nine quarters.

0 - The Jaguars haven't generated a takeaway through 180 minutes of game action in 2024.

338 - WR Nico Collins still leads the NFL in receiving yards through three games of the 2024 season.

39 - According to Next Gen Stats, Danielle Hunter (20) and Will Anderson Jr (19) are 1st and 2nd in the NFL, creating a total of 39 pressures on QB.

Texans official inactives: Joe Mixon (ankle), Tank Dell (bruised ribs), Jimmie Ward (groin), Dameon Pierce (ankle), Jamal Hill and Nick BroekerActive for Texans: Foley Fatukasi (shoulder), Nico Collins (hamstring)

Looks like Metchie gets his opportunity today. I still can't see the Texans getting the ground game going without Mixon. Which keeps the safeties back. Need big plays on defense from Hunter, Stingley, and Anderson.

Jags without top two LBs today. Still no Evan Engram and Darnell Savage. Time to take advantage!

Lloyd and Oluokun are one of the best LB tandems in the league. Engram is Lawrence’s favorite target. Savage is a solid starting safety but hasn’t been healthy since signing with the Jags this offseason.

Things I’d love to see today:

- less penalties
- Akers able to get the run game going
- Stoud to have a 300+ yard game
- the front 7 to go to town on sacks
- win the turnover margin

I think so far we haven’t played to our potential this season. I’m hoping that last week was a wake up call and get our ***** in gears.

LFG TEXANS!!!
