Week 2 Gameday Thread: Bring on 'Da Bears!

I’m not so into the negativity. The pass rush set itself up throughout this game and by the second half it was giving Caleb fits, 2 INTs and a 3rd called back for a penalty away from the play, 7 sacks!!

On O there were issues with the OL, sad that we still can’t get a healthy run there, running game 75 yards felt disappointing, but Collins goes for over 100 and a TD without even having a big play! CJ put up some steady to good numbers, lots to be positive about and a few points to work on.

Snap count timing was horrible, does changing the C late in the week account for that?

Al-Shaair should have been tossed from the game. But I don't remember a regular punch drawing a post game suspension. Swinging a helmet, sure. It wasn't that.
Well he should have been ejected tonight and wasn't. I think a 1 game suspension would be fair considering..

We should have been better on offense but this was a good solid game from our defense. I’m still feeling optimistic and every sloppy game is a learning experience. I don’t expect us to rack up 12 penalties in a game again this season. Couldn’t have won this without fairbairne Good W, go Texans.
Were we really that bad on offense? We had a LOT of yards negated by a LOT of questionable calls/non calls.

Heading to bed, but tomorrow I want to find out what in the sam hell was that bullshit Diggs spot??? He CLEARLY was past the first down marker. AND I'm not one to say the NFL is rigged/scripted/etc. but the fact that they called 0 holding calls against the OT blocking Anderson and Hunter is ridiculous.

The TD run was a big time play in my book. Had to beat a couple of defenders.
At least two of his other plays were clutch when we had to have them on 3rd down.

Think about if there was a pylon where the 1st down marker was on the sideline. Would Diggs have put the ball inside the pylon or hit it before going out of bounds? I think he would have been just short.

I had him a foot short.

Fairbairn broke the NFL record of 50+ yard FG over a 2 game stretch when he hit his 2nd one against the Bears. The new record was 5 and then Fairbairn added to it with #6.

Fairbairn is not only the only kicker in NFL history to have 3 FG of 50+ yards in consecutive games, he's the only one who has ever had 2 games with 3 50+ yard FG in a career.

Yes, he 100% should have been ejected tonight. Throwing a punch is an automatic ejection.

Keep in mind the league knows that players don't throw a punch for no reason. The Bears players did something to Al-Shaair while he was on the ground, which the NFL has to take into consideration. And they'll also have to consider the Bears were making cheap shots earlier and weren't being called, like the DB who poked Nico in the face while the ref flagged Nico for retaliating.

I just don't envision a suspension after the refs messed up and allowed the Bears to create the situation.

I'll never understand why someone will throw a punch at a man wearing a helmet. Andre got it right.. rip that bastard's helmet off and then beat the guy the entire league hates.. That's why Andre didn't get suspended 😄

The NFL tried its hardest to keep Caleb in the game….

Gotta get the run game going. No Diggs. Good win after all is said and done. Bears gotta a good Defense.

Not sure I liked our game plan tonight. Too many long developing plays.

I'm starting to worry. The Texans can't beat the Bears, the refs, and their own OL. I guess @steelbtexan is still ok with Tunsil's penalty since it didn't technically cost the Texans points.
I would feel even better with less dropped passes and fumbled and yes, the penalties gotta get cleaned up.

It's a win. No style points in the NFL.

Bad officiating is no longer becoming odd.
No, there aren't style points.

But you also can't continue to play sloppy and think you walk away with the W against better teams.

Ws and Ls do count in the NFL.

And as I said, a win is a win, but the sloppiness needs cleaning and thankfully there is time to clean it up... especially with a 2 game lead.

Fell asleep second quarter. Missed the game. Cooking outside all afternoon. Heat + a couple of beers did me in once I hit the A/C. Kinda ambivalent about it after reading this thread. The main thing I get out of this is that we should have kept Blake Cashman since the Texans face the leading tackler on the Vikings next week. But then, with us, he’d be nursing a hamstring by now. Since we aren’t expected to win every game are we better since this was a game we rescued from the predicted loss column? Not sure I’m comfortable seeing chancy 50 yard+ FG’s being our margins of victory in our two wins.

I’m one who like to repeat Jeff Van Gundy’s quote, “never ignore in victory what you wouldn’t ignore in defeat.”

However, if you look around the NFL, there is a lot of sloppy football being played by all teams because the first 2-3 games of the season are an extension of the preseason games. Hell, the great Mahomes just threw for 152 yards, 2 INTs and the Chiefs won on a last second FG.

So, I’ll gladly take the early 2-0 record knowing the Texans have not played their best football and they are still figuring things out.

I’ll take it. We found ways to win in both games despite not everything clicking. Hopefully the offense gets it together and starts scoring more touchdowns.

Last week the Titans rushed for 140 yards against the Bears. Credit to them for fixing that problem this game. They wasn’t going to get gashed in the running game like they did last week. That defense also forced 3 turnovers last week, 2 interceptions and a fumble.

The Texans would have scored 26 points had they not fumbled inside the 5. The Bears are tough to score on. They protect the back end and are difficult to sustain drives on. 12 penalties for 115 yards is also difficult to overcome. A tough game the Texans made tougher on themselves. I think the Bears are better than the Colts team so many here admire and will win next weekend in Indy.

Completely agree with the thought.

But... to me, it doesn't make sense during the game. Can you imagine the coaches & players acting like we do during the game?

I know we're not coaches & we're not players & we don't & shouldn't act like coaches & players during the game. But... that's me.

I could understand if we've been going through this for years... ala Bill O'Brien. But this is the DeMeco bus, we should all be on board & just a few weeks ago we're so excited about what could be this season.

Just doesn't feel like that's what we believe in the gameday thread as the game is going on.

After the game... sure, why not. We've got a week to talk about the game. But during the game I'm all in, 100% behind these guys & I'm supporting them no matter. Things that don't go well, I let it go quick & focus on the next play.

I try to anyway.
