Week 2 Gameday Thread: Bring on 'Da Bears!

How many of yall are excited to see this D go against caleb williams and that chicago O and see CJ lead our team up and down the field at will?!?!?!

Line opened up at -6 but its moving even more in our favor so far.

Cant wait to see our D buckle down and lock down chi-town and show them what H-Town is all about!

I don't want the Texans get too over-confident... so I'll do it for them. :) So long as we don't have some strange turnover streak, get another kick or two blocked, or CJ decides to play dice on the sidelines rather than play cause he wants Mills to get a chance to start this should be an easy win. I said it when the schedule first came out that we start off pretty easy before ending hard (according to SoS.)

This game is a great chance to get our healthy O-line to get some good work on assignments/communication and start to gel as a unit. I'm hoping we see big improvement in pass protection, and iron out some of the miscommunications in the run game. I think we can win it through the air, ground, or a mixture of both. I also want to see Anderson and Hunter bring the heat, though we are facing another QB who can run I don't think we have to worry like we do against Richardson or Lamar.

I also want Calen Bullock to continue to work his was into more full-time starting reps. The one thing our defense has struggled with (last year and last game) is our deep safeties losing deep contain on large downfield throws. He's the only answer we have to that issue, and we'll soon be playing teams with QBs who can consistently make those passes.

Sweat is a good pass rusher. He wouldn’t normally concern me but he’s better than what the Colts had on the edge and they were able to hurry C.J. Need Tunsil and Howard to shake off the rust quickly.

As a whole the Colts have a better defense than Chicago. I’d expect the Texans to be able to move the ball at will against this unit.

They’ve got a pro bowl caliber player at each unit in Sweat, Tremaine Edmunds and Jaylon Johnson. But they’ve got holes as well. But Eberflus is a good defensive coach and should have a solid gameplan. But the talent gap between their defense and our offense will be too much.

Their offense has better weapons in the passing game than the Colts. But they don’t have an offensive mind like Steichen minimizing their young QB’s mistakes. Their OL is also below average. I expect the pass rush to get home and Hunter/Anderson to come up big in prime time.

This will be the Texans message to the rest of the league that they are legit contenders this year. The DeMeco era has had a ton of nailbiters with the Texans coming out on top in the end. But this will not be a one score heart attack game. This will be a beatdown. Texans by 3 scores!

Is Sweat actually better than Paye or Latu? They're probably pretty close to equal.

Latu looks like he's going to be a very special player unfortunately.

Right now yes.
I forget how zone-blocking handles a giant NT like Sweat. He doesn't look like a guy that can be left with a single block as the other lineman goes LB hunting, particularly when Scruggs is on the lighter side as a C.

Need to see more explosive plays from the offense passing game. As much as I enjoyed watching Mixon shred the colts, he won't last long running the ball 30 times a game. Need me some Tank Dell over the top deep passes. The dink and dunk BS is for the birds.... and we ain't no damn birds!

rookie QB, bad team, prime time...

perfect recipe for the Texans to play down to their opponent & lose by double digits.
Also a perfect opportunity to make a statement. What they decide to do will determine the direction of this franchise for the season.

The primary thing I learned from game one was that only the Texans can beat the Texans. I don't see that happening Sunday. If Scruggs and Kenyon Green have very good games, that tells me a lot of the issue was noise in Indianapolis.

Are you talking about the Sweat on the Bears?

Probably would disagree with some assessments here though I would favor the Texans in this matchup due to better balance on both sides of the ball. The Bears offense is still figuring itself and especially on their offensive line (interior) as the center is a weak link along with shaky play from the right guard position. Couple that with a rookie quarterback and the offense may be looking at a few weeks to gel and figuring matters out.

Defensively the Bears are better than the Colts. You're talking a unit that was the number one run defense last year, ended the year in the top half of the league overall but the second half of the season was a top five unit statistically. They ended that season with the highest interceptions, interception % and top ten in passes defensed. That's why the Bears went 5-3 in that second half of the year. The defense. Jaylon Johnson basically shut down a side of the field leading to his all pro selection. They improved the secondary with the addition of Byrd at safety and of course their rookie corner from last year (Stevenson) has a year of experience now and also drastically improved as the season progressed as completion percentage against him dropped 10%.

A weakness is the fact they don't have an "established" edge rusher opposite of Sweat. I say it that way because they have two young guys with potential as rushers though both need work against the run. The veteran, Walker, has his moments as well and does some good work with stunts to the inside as well. But no one at this moment you are continually gearing blocking schemes toward except Sweat. It just happens to help others in one on one matchups. Passing wise could be a weakness when you throw against the linebacking corps and even at times the nickel back, Gordon so attempting things in the middle of the field or getting the outside backers moving could be key.

So wouldn't say the Bears is a gimme and they aren't a bad team since they will more than likely be a top ten defensive unit this season if not even more. But that offense couldn't run last week, blocking was nearly horrendous by the interior and Caleb is still learning his way about things as his touch on passes was off along with throwing off balance with footing. The Texans defense could possibly lead the way by putting pressure on Williams and not allow him to begin to find his rhythm which is a plus playing a rookie quarterback in just their second game and first on the road.

Just watched the Titans Bears game.

First observation, and I’m happy to say is that Levis and the Titans look awful, like Giants level awful in that game! I absolutely love the Levis frisbee fling when he starts to get sacked! Want more of that please!

Williams is bad under pressure. He can run but I saw little on the run good passing plays. Deep ball is very inaccurate.

Swift is a good player.

Bears defense over pursues and leaves cushion. Misdirection and protection and CJ could eat them up!

I think the Texans defense will have at least three interceptions.

Chicago Bears at Houston Texans: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 2 game

Although it isn't wise to overreact to Week 1 performances, the Chicago Bears looked abysmal in Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans. Make no mistake, the Bears may have won, but it was not because of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams. Williams failed to reach 100 yards passing on the day, and the team needed a timely pick-6 in order to emerge victorious.

On the other side, the Houston Texans were able to squeak out a narrow victory over AFC South rival Indianapolis. Offseason acquisition Stefon Diggs had two touchdowns as the Texans won 29-27. Much of the team's offensive outburst came from running back Joe Mixon. The Texans can't expect 150 yards from Mixon every week though. If they want to compete for a Super Bowl championship, they will need to establish themselves as clear superiors to teams like the Colts.

Here are our experts' predictions for this Week 2 showdown.

boooo, the whites are clean and look good but its a home game and its going to be nationally televised....we should have broke out the Red w/ candy apple red helmets or the new H-Town Blues

They always start at home with Liberty White Out day! I think the battle reds are mostly worn against AFC south teams (could be wrong,) but saw an article that says they'll where the red helmets 3 times this year (the most allowed.) My favorite uniform has been red jersey's with blue pants, but I think it's been a long time since I've seen those (could be wrong.)

We should have white helmets to go along with the white uniforms. And change the field color to white. Da Bears won't even be able to see us. The Texans will be sporting sunglasses to cover the glare and win by 70 points.
I like it. Might as well secretly freeze the field and add some artificial snow. I mean the Colts covered their field in oil, seems fair we get our chance.

That’s the Vikings and the packers plan!

Only problem is, they have experience living in a snow covered waste land and we don't. Would probably be in their favor.

Of course, we lack experience with snow, but we can string together a coherent sentence because we lack frost bite to the brain that comes with that experience.

IF we really want to throw them off we just need to get the criminals to "just chill". Chicagoans? Chags? Chics?wouldn't know what to do without 46 people getting shot on game day alone.

Excited for this one. Some quick points

  • 11 of the home teams picked up W’s week 1
  • Caleb ranks 32nd in passing yard
  • Texans are 2nd in offensive total yards
  • Bears gave up 140 rushing yards
  • Texans are 1st in rushing yards

Week 1 is shaking off the rust for a lot of teams. I expect our team to play a lil better next game. We didn’t look too bad for a team with new key pieces.

Game plan on offense will be running the ball and maybe play action to keep the bears solid defense off balance. The bears have a good defense. They did give up 140 rushing yards week 1. The good thing about our team is we’re multi dimensional meaning we can beat you in other ways.

A lot of analyst and betting sites have us winning by a touchdown or more. Usually those guys are smart. I want to see more from linebacker Azeez. I think Cjs going to show out in this prime time game. Caleb better bring his A game

Hearing Bill Bellichek talk on Pat Mcafee show is very enlightening. Love getting perspective from the best head coach ever.

He skewered Will Levis for the pick six with no upside for example, “You make the throw you get a two yard gain. You don’t, you lose the game. Don’t make plays with no upside.”

But he also mentioned his strategy when they had Revis at CB of putting him on the WR 2 and doubling the opposing team’s top target. He said this strategy usually worked if the opponent had two viable targets, then they’d say we’re ok with covering your other players one on one.

If Rome Odunze is out this week, I wonder if that’s the strategy the Texans will use for Moore/Allen at WR?

Our game against the Colts is the type of game the Texans of the past would have found a way to lose. Rookie QB opponent in prime time is another one of those types of games. However, I have seen enough to where I expect us to win Sunday night. It is appropriate to have higher expectations now, so I expect the Texans to come out and win at home. We aren't perfect just yet, but we are better than Chicago. Looking forward to seeing this team take the next step!

Going look cool out there on Sunday night

I don't know if they still do it, but they used to tape white gift bags (plastic, grocery style) on the back of the seats that folded up to give the stadium more of a snowy look. You had to get their early before people sat down to get the full effect, hopefully we have a decent amount of people wearing white to match the color tone.

Wish I was built like that.

I'm not going to whine & complain, but we lost a couple of games we shouldn't have last season. That's still in the Texans DNA.

So I won't be surprised whatever the outcome Sunday night. But I can't wait to see it.

We better not lose to the dang Bears! The Toros better show up ready to bust some heads come Sunday night! No taking it easy on their QB just because he’s a punk.
