Week 12: Lions, Turkeys and Cranberry Sauce

Some responsibility yes, but not all as you act... not even half and not close to it
It was a vicious circle, OB made bad calls which caused Watson to make bad reads and the more bad reads he made the more bad calls OB made. All of which started because OB either wasn’t experienced enough or just not good enough to change the system to one that better suited Watson’s play style.

Which I’m sure Steel would say comes back to RS not getting Mahomes like OB wanted but then again lots of coaches don’t get the player they wanted and what separates the good and great ones from the average to bad ones is that they figure out a way to win. Pretty sure BB never envisioned Cam Newton as his post-Brady QB but chicken salad and all that.

I'm not acting anyways. What responsibility do you think he shares? Posters dont want to put a number on it. I think it should be a shared 50/50 responsibility. You dont, give me a number

It's just my opinion differs when it comes most of the rest of this MB when it comes to DW4. There are others who agree with me but dont want to have to deal with what I have to deal with. It doesn't bother me at all but I can see why some remain quiet when it comes to the DW4 topic.

It used to be about 35%, but that # is decreasing the further we get from the OB days

LMAO at 50% and people agreeing with you but don't want to say anything because they don't want to deal with the truth.

Anybody outside of Houston think Watson is anything less than special right now?

Have you seen anything from anyone outside this board saying Watson will never win a championship? That the Texans need to move on?

Anyone outside of Houston saying Watson is not playing well enough for a 4th year player?

The UFOs I sometimes talk to that land in my parking lot say Watson wasn't born in the US.

You never answered the question. I said 50% you tried to dicredit me and that's fine because that's the way you roll. But I noticed you never came up with a percentage. Wonder why this is? Shocking LMAO

A percentage for what. That skit is irrelevant because if you’re actually watching. Then you should know O’Brien was fn over this young man and this entire team. He was not coaching this young man up nor any other rookie. Free agent came here and regressed. When has this dude fielded a top offensive line? Never!

Since that mans departure the offense has gotten much better in pass pro. Kelly has actually called some really good games. But all you can focus on is the few bad defenses we’ve played.

Just like you didn’t give O’Brien a percentage when Rick Smith was here. Don’t expect me to give you one in this type scenario.

Max Kellerman talked about that the last two games was Watson getting back to elite status after dropping off from it. Not saying I agree or disagree just answering the question.

You’re right on “not special”
Big difference between “not elite” & “time to move on”

If someone doesn’t think Watson is elite, fine. No sweat off my back.

But to basically call him a bust, c’mon.

I was never asked to give a percentage when RS was here. BTW, I would say 33% to Cal, 33% to BOB, 33% to RS. Whoever was making the final personnel call that shares most of the blame and I'm pretty sure BOB wasn't making the final personnel calls if as RS said he made the final call on DW4.

So nice deflection, now give me a percentage of how much culpability DW4 has in this failure of a season.

Laugh all you want TB, fact is you aren't ever going to answer. I think we all know why. Seeing you duck and dodge is truly entertaining for me. Thanks

Oh Watson is far from a bust and frankly I think all he needs to be thought of on the level of a Mahomes is a scheme that matches his play style. I’d say Mahomes is a little more of a plug and play QB in that he fits in any system but very few QBs, even the greats, are like that. Brady or Manning would get destroyed in a duel threat scheme and Newton and Jackson fall flat every time they are forced to win on their arm.

Will a new HC and scheme fix everything, no there are still some issues that I think that are imbedded in his playing that have been there since college but that’s where it’s on the coaches to cover those issues as much as possible.

My biggest concern at this point though is by the time we get the other things in place the lion’s share of his and Tunsil’s contract will come up and all signs are pointing to there be less money to go around and already QB contracts kill team SB chances.

I'm going to be revisiting this post in gameday threads. LMAO So they really are the Houston Watson's in your mind and anything that goes right is entirely because of him and if things go wrong he bears little if any responsibility.

BTW, thanks for putting numbers on it. Unlike.TB.

Let's see how things go when the Texans aren't playing jokes of franchises like the Jags/Lions before handing out crowns.

These are 2 bad football teams. The Bears aren't great but they will be a much tougher test than what the Texans have been beating up on lately.
of course but these two teams we needed to beat --and we did.

The Colts defense got beat like a drum yesterday. Texans offense should be able to move the ball against them. Now stopping Henry and the Tacks is a different story, BUT that first game with them should have been a win.

Like I said before, this looks like it having fun again. having fun playing ain’t gonna make em win the games but it should go a long way to making them play better, against a good or bad defense.

So did the Bears defense. Both games are winnable indeed.

Winnable yes, though in the colts/tits game colts had to worry about a scary RB as well while against us they only have to worry about the passing game and our RBs will tackle themselves. Bears game gives me more hope as Packers are overall a better team but offense isn't that much better and Bears offense is always a joke so even our defense should be able to at least slow them down.

The Bears went into that game w/ a horrible offensive game plan. Packers struggle at stopping the run. On his first carry, Montgomery broke a big 57 yard run. But for the rest of the half, he only gets 5 more carries? He then only gets one carry in the 3rd? It was almost as if they wanted to give Trubisky one more shot to show them something, before they decide to move on from him officially this offseason.

A lot of offenses, the QB can check in & out of the run depending on what he sees.

A lot of times, when the decisions don’t make sense, I wonder if that’s the QB calling his own number.

When the Texans face the Titans again.....they have to find a way to get ahead and force Tannehill into carrying the game. How do the Texans accomplish this? Scrap the run game and go into the fast paced no-huddle offense they seem to run amazingly well. Getting a lead early certainly doesn't eliminate Henry but it could reduce his impact. If the Texans get the lead....there is no such thing as protecting the lead so force them to play catch-up and hope for Tannehill to make mistakes in the passing game. Texans could've won the first meeting so hopefully they realize that getting points on the board early and often and should be the theme of the day.

No....once again you're incorrect. See, the team all gets the credit in the losses and in the wins. How about you put your numbers on the board right now since you're the one who initiated this idea of numbers......certainly you had your numbers in mind before making ths type of statement. I'll be looking forward to your thoughts.

Against the Titans I don’t think we can get a big enough lead to cancel the run game. Henry can take it to the house on any carry.
To do the same thing over and over and hoping for different results is the definition of insanity. Texans cannot compete in a running game duel......they have to score quick, often and never take their foot off the throttle. Titans have lost 3 games this season so they can be beat. The Texans need to take a different approach this go round.

Texans cannot compete in a running game duel......
Agreed. But I can’t imagine our game plan was to ever get in a RB duel.

All I was saying is normally you go up two or three scores on a team & they abandon the run. Against Tennessee we could be up 6 scores with 3 minutes left & there’s still a good chance they’ll come back just handing the ball off to Henry. Our run defense is that bad.

But yeah, we shouldn’t hand the ball off half a dozen times to our RBs if we expect to win

They can be beat yes but they are perfectly designed to counter us. Henry can just run the ball all day and this defense can't stop him and that will eat the clock. Titans could do to us what we did to the Chiefs in the first Watson vs Mahomes duel. Best way to stop Watson is to control the clock so he never gets on the field.

Henry had his best game of the season against us, averaging over 9 yards per carry. Despite that, Texans had so many opportunities to win that game. While still bad, I think our run D has improved since then.
Based on what? Jags have no run game just like we don't and the Browns, who do have a run game, completely dominated us with it. Don't let the score fool you that was never a close game the moment the passing game was no longer a factor. Pats are highly ranked in as far as numbers but put that down to mainly them having no one that can catch and the fact their QB is a RB that can throw so they have high numbers almost by default and even still if not for the offense carving them up they could have easily won that one. Even the helpless Lions, who run game is almost as bad as ours, started the 2nd half ramming the ball down our throats and I'm not sure why they stopped because it was working for them.

So I'm just wondering what you base the idea that we have improved in the run defense on?

OptimisticTexan

Agreed

But posters need to be able to put these wins in proper context.
What proper context angle would you be looking for? The proper context that fits your single-vision context or their personal opinion that takes off those single-vision context lenses for a complete team assessment context lenses? Yes, the Texans will lose games just like every team in the NFL will but what would be the reasons?
