Week 11: Arizona @ Houston

Hopefully, Singletary has found something with this line and system. They balled last week in the run game. BTW - I've been way more impressed with Deiter than I figured. Patterson did reasonably well, (and this is more anecdotal with my somewhat untrained eye) but it seems to me that Deiter has done even better and has really turned C into a strength.

I was hoping when Deiter was signed that he would be this year’s Ethan Pocic value free agent signing on the OL.

He is talented enough. They don’t just hand out Big Ten OL of the year awards to players without talent. Hopefully this is a sign of things finally clicking for him and he can keep up the good work.

Mahomes has left money on the table in the short term.

Notice a theme?
LMAO. He left so much money on the table, they couldn't resign Tyrek Hill.

That's some silly math if you think a guy who signed a 10-year $450 million contract that will be renegotiated and adjusted multiple times over the ten years is leaving money on the table.
That's one hell of a narrative.

The salary cap wont let that happen, unless Stroud pulls a Brady and leaves money on the table so Caserio can add some guys. We know that ain't gonna happen with David from the inner city as Stroud's agent. So let's just enjoy the good times for as long as they last.
Quick let's get CJ a billionaire model girlfriend! Wait, what am I saying, let's get me a billionaire model girlfriend, we can worry about CJ later.

we have Dare Ogunbwali to back up if necessary...
The more I look around the league and see teams starting backups like Browning, DTR, Wilson, Devito, etc, the more and more thankful I am that we have Mills who in my opinion is quite a bit better than them.

I know the fans will clamour to trade him once we go into next season, but it would have to take quite the offer to convince me it's worth potentially completely punting a season should CJ go down hurt as I think this team (especially with some good additions next year) can still win enough games with Mills at the helm to make the playoffs.

I am glad that you feel so strongly about Davis Mills. I certainly do not.

And let's not forget Keenum is still on the roster. Keenum came here knowing he was going to be a coach, so maybe that's the direction he's headed in anyways.

They are riding high and they have the ability to hang with almost every team. And they know that. Which is what a trap game is. A game you get overconfident your going to win and mistakes are made.

A trap game is when a really good team plays a lesser opponent with a big matchup with another really good team on for the following week. The Bengals just played out that scenario. They had the Texans in front of them with the Ravens game on for the following Thursday. The Texans was the trap game for the Bengals.

The Texans aren't in a position to be overlooking anybody. They're the team on the climb to get to that really good status, therefore they don't have any trap games. The Texans were probably overconfident in the Carolina game but that didn't make it a trap game. They weren't overlooking it because of a huge matchup looming the following week. They just came out flat and unprepared and probably buying into they're own hype.

Yes, I get that Jacksonville is an important game next week, but for the Texans and the position they're in, they're all important. The Cardinals manhandled the Cowboys earlier and they just beat a team the Texans lost to, and they get their QB1 back. Not a trap game.

The Kansas City Chiefs have restructured Patrick Mahomes' contract which will see him become the highest paid NFL player over a four-season period. Mahomes will be paid $210.6 million (£170m) from 2023 to 2026 in the new deal, his representatives confirmed to ESPN on Monday. 09/18/2023.

Exactly. Last time I checked, Mulugeta was not Mahomes' agent. The motive of all business is to make a profit. The motive of all agents is to make as much money as possible for their clients and their commission. Anyone thinking these players are leaving money on the table and not getting contracts restructured or even endorsements to make up the difference is being naive or simply spinning a false narrative.

Keenum would make a great QB coach if he decides to go in that direction. He would be a great addition to the Texans staff if Johnson moves on.
I'm really hoping that this coaching staff thinks they have something special and stay together for a few years.

I have more faith in Mills in this offense than in the last 2 regimes. Having said that, his leash would be short before I went to Keenum. Adding a premier RB and IOL would just about complete the roster for the offense.
Caserio should be working on re-signing all of the players he has on 1 year contracts.

Bill Walsh once said the backup QBs the 2md most important player on the team. He always had a quality backup QB.

He left enough money on the table that they were able to keep Hill around for a couple of more years. You're kinda providing my point about there being a limited window.

Goff. Lions are legit.

And for the life of me, Josh Allen should be as well, but I cannot figure out why the Bills suck so hard
Did you see what the Ravens did to the Lions? Lions are good, championship good? They aren't at that level yet. IMHO

I get that and I get that you think it won't happen, but so far we can at least say what we expect from CJ...isn't close to what he'll give. He seems to always exceed expectations. I think if he continues on this path he deserves the max and will get the max, but I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility that it's backloaded like Mahomes' was.

So until it happens we can probably still imagine a 6-7 year window.

Agreed, well said.

Just my .02 though

Yeh, for the longest time Deiter wasn't getting any snaps and I was wondering why. He's performed well and I agree, maybe better than Patterson.

This game is a great opportunity for Christian Harris to regain a starting role with the team. No To’o To’o opened up the door for playing time again… now with Perryman out i’d expect him and Cashman to be on the field almost the entire game.

He made some good plays last week. He has the athleticism needed to match up with Kyler Murray if they choose to spy him.

It would be great if he can solidify himself as a top two LB on this team alongside Cashman. Keep the two most athletic LBs on the field.

I was watching the infamous Texans Chiefs playoff game where they blew it.

I never realized how bad Deshaun's footwork was until now. For obvious reasons, I have been watching CJ's QB School videos as well as others like Josh Allen's this year.

One thing he always says about CJ was how perfect his footwork is.

Deshaun turned 5 step drops in to 9 step drops, slow, methodical etc. The timing was ass. Receivers running open, but he wasn't ready to throw because he was never on time.

I can't believe that after coaching Brady, that BoB never corrected Deshaun's **** footwork that made him have to be a creator.

A little bit concerning that our defense is down to the bones with injuries but I imagine Cards have plenty of injury woes too.
Might be a closer game than the 10 I originally thought.
Texans by 3 again?

I am not that concerned about Murray scrambling IF Texans maintain discipline. I am more interested in his 5 fumbles in 2022. He will get first downs but that doesn't have to defeat us.

yep.. when the play of that player is not.
Huh. Well I'm intrigued by whatever metrics has Mills as below backup level.

When I look around the league myself I'm seeing some teams start guys that I think are a level worse than Mills - especially when they've got more experience under their belt. It's just your opinion though so that's cool.

Was he playing hurt then he played against us? Based on the way the Ravens manhandled the Bengals our win against them does not look as impressive as it once did.

Eh, it's a week to week league where results aren't always linear. Those same Bengals were coming off back to back wins over SF and Buffalo heading into the game against us. No way that looked not impressive for them.

Good points. However it seems like the Ravens and 49ers when at their best are the two best teams in the NFL.

I consider Mills to be a quality backup. Look around the league at the backups.
This is where I'm at. When I compare him to the others I'd far rather have Mills than like 80-90 percent of the other guys.

People can hate Mills all they want but there still should be some amount of room for objectivity to just how bad some of the other options are. You can think Mills stinks, but I promise you there's much much much worse out there.

Not only that but with how CJ is playing we're very likely out of the running for any of the tip top "backups" who are really pseudo starter journeymen who bounce around looking for starting gigs that they obviously will have zero shot at here.
