Uhm, the "Pitmaster" wouldn't happen to be a U/H grad by any chance - would he?
I doubt the guy has a college degree. he's just an old guy that
knows how to hire latinos that know how to BBQ.
Larry's used to have 3 branches before he consolidated at 290/BW8.
I used to prefer the one on I10 at Barker Cypress, but the folks in
the neighborhood behind him made him close down because of all of the
state flags he had in his parking lot.
People that say Larry's is crap just missed out on the right time to
go. (or they truly know jack-squat about real TX BBQ..)
Killens as a great BBQ joint is laughable.
The reason I say to go at 4:30p on sat/sun is because it is a buffet
place.
Even the best buffet place is going to suck if you go on off hours and
the food isn't fresh (it's true of Dimassi, Thai Spice Buffet, Cuisine of
India, etc.)
If you really want to try Larry's with an open mind, hit it on the weekend
right before the dinner crowd rush.
The stuff will be hot, and fresh, and will be consumed fast enough
that it doesn't sit out and get rank..
Try their chopped beef in a baked potato (all in the buffet line), or
just plow through the beef and pork ribs.
I like their sausage as well.
I think they have a special deal with a local butcher, because during
the summer months they produce the best beef ribs in the entire
state of Texas (sat/sun)
