Martin survives another day. Man I hope to upgrade and replace him. Any day now. Any. Day...

Geeez... How many times exactly has he said that about Clowney?
Let's put it this way. All of us knew what O'Brien was referring to when he said "pitch count". You were the only one so anal retentive that you had to point it out as a baseball term.
:)

Another idiotic move by Rick Smith in cutting Charles James. We should have kept him for special teams alone. We should have cut Bouye. He ******* sucked in the preseason. Just like Chris Jones and Trindon Holliday, cutting James will bite us in the ass. Great job with the Nix pick Dick.

I'm having a difficult time understanding how Lonnie Ballentine has made the 53.......unless the Texans think that they can pawn him off on some team.

From August 26, 2014
He injured himself at the beginning of TC and was essentially limited throughout TC. The injury was never characterized, but a good bet is that it is a hamstring. Something that he dealt with recurrently in college.

He went on to be placed on IR for the season without taking a snap.

He was dealing with a hamstring issue during the early portion of this training camp and the preseason..........and now he has knee swelling.

With this last bit of info, I'm thinking that he is dealing with hamstring tendonitis (the hamstring tendons cross the knee joint) and hence knee swelling may be present. Normally, several weeks of rest and rehab may be adequate therapy. However, in cases of stubborn recurrent history of "hamstring problems," adequate therapy may be measured in terms of several months.

I hope we don't end up carrying a player that rather than carrying his own weight on the team, becomes another story of dead weight.

Right, I forgot this message board was the center of the football world. smh

I have a few beefs with this roster. Not keeping James is an epic fail. Really stupid decision. Really, really stupid. Ok I realize 7 CB's is a luxury but the kid deserved a roster spot. Not only because he is a ST standout and can play damn near anywhere in a pinch, but he is also great for team morale and a great asset to the community and fans. I think when you're down to the last spot or two - any possible tie goes to a guy that busts his butt, does everything asked of him and more and shows stellar attitude while doing it. OB and RS need to be tarred and feathered.

Then you keep Martin. Why? What on earth has he done in his career? Ok, I admit he made a damn good catch in the EZ against the Cowboys but one stellar play in a preseason game a career does not make. There are easily two other WR's I would have kept over Martin. Worthy for one is a better PR. Yet, he is eschewed for the likes of Martin. I don't get it.

Kendall Lamm. I mean whooppie. Like you can't find that guy on the street if major need arises. Or hey there is this cool thing called a practice squad. I wonder if OB has heard of it. Nah, let's keep someone who won't contribute for 16 games and get rid of the ST star that lights up the crowd and the team. Makes sense to me.

What did Carlos Thomspon do that was so much better than #91,#48, or name your damn number. Must have been in practice because I didn't see anything that just stood out.

Ballentine - I can kind of see the makings of a poor man's Kam Chancellor but he was injured last year, and wasn't fully healthy this year. I would have opted for PS for now and stuck with James - someone that I am sure can contribute at a need area - ST gunner and all around asset. And I'm not convinced James can't return kicks, but he never got a chance. I saw real vision on those pitches. Eh, what do I know.

Quarterbacks (2): Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett, ???
Tweedle dee and tweedle dumb
Running backs/fullbacks (5): Arian Foster, Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes, Chris Polk, Jay Prosch
Foster and the barber shop quartet
Wide receivers (6): DeAndre Hopkins, Nate Washington, Cecil Shorts, Jaelen Strong, Keith Mumphery, Keyshawn Martin
Isn't Martin just an older version of Mumphrey
Tight ends (3): Garrett Graham, C.J. Fiedorowicz, Ryan Griffin
The 3 Stooges
Offensive linemen (9): Duane Brown, Brandon Brooks, Ben Jones, Xavier Su'a-Filo, Derek Newton, Jeff Adams, Chris Clark, Greg Mancz, Kendall Lamm
These last 2 scare me
Defensive tackles (2): Vince Wilfork, Christian Covington

Defensive ends (3): J.J. Watt, Jared Crick, Jeoffrey Pagan
Someone's not getting much rest
Outside linebackers (4): Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus, John Simon, Carlos Thompson
Carlos Thompson?!? I didn't even know this guy was in team. How many times did I say 44 made a play who is he? None, because he didn't make any plays. Must be another outstanding closed practice guy or the coaches didn't even know he was on the team to cut him.
Inside linebackers (5): Brian Cushing, Benardrick McKinney, Mike Mohamed, Akeem Dent, Justin Tuggle
Five ILB, finally we are expecting someone to get hurt.
Cornerbacks (6): Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Kevin Johnson, A.J. Bouye, Jumal Rolle, Darryl Morris
First 3 good, second 3 what have done for me lately?
Safeties (5): Rahim Moore, Eddie Pleasant, Andre Hal, Quintin Demps, Lonnie Ballentine
Ballentine plays good against guys that are selling cars "this weekend" and he gets a job.
Specialists (3): P Shane Lechler, K Randy Bullock, LS Jonathan Weeks

O'Brien's final 53 man roster has a ton of holes. For the life of me, why didn't we keep Charles James. The ****** made plays and busted his ass for us. Why the **** did O'Brien keep Lamm and Ballentine over him? I am so pissed that I kind of want us to crash and burn and to have some heat put on the heads of the Texans

I always like to see how the UDFAs play out. Looks like we kept:
Kendall Lamm,
Greg Mancz,
Carlos Thompson,
and I'll count Khari Lee, since we got a draft pick for him.
(Did I miss anyone?)
Probably some others will end up on the Practice Squad, and a couple were waived injured, I believe, so we might see them again in the future.

Here's my assessment of where we stand with today's version of our 53 man roster, as compared to last year.

Offensive Linemen - Overall, I think we're slightly upgraded over last year. We're carrying nine this year with two rookies, Mancz and Lamm having made the team, and two veterans, Adams and Clark, complimenting the five carry overs from last season. It remains to be seen how well they perform, but I'm OK with this group going into the season.

Wide Receivers & Tight Ends - I'm good here. Again, I think we've upgraded over last year.

Quarterback - The most discussed concern this season, but I'm good with these two and think we should see improved play over last year.

Running Backs - Losing Foster hurts but our running game production should equal last year's provided Arian can come back as projected and regain form. If not, we take a step back here.

Defensive Linemen - The big difference here, over last year, is Covington, and of course, Wilfork. We've upgraded here.

Inside Linebackers - We've added McKinney and dropped Tuggle. The big difference here is Cushing's improved play. We're upgraded at this position.

Outside Linebackers - Potentially, the weakest position on the team. It's all going to depend on Clowney's health. Losing Brooks Reed hurts. Simon is going to have to step up. Until proven otherwise, we're weaker at the position this year.

Cornerbacks - With the addition of Kevin Johnson, we're three deep stronger and we're bringing back productive veterans from last year for depth and special teams play. We've upgraded the position.

Safeties - We lost Lewis and we signed Moore. Overall, the position is about the same as last year.

Specialty - The same as last year.

So, overall, we have a slight net improvement over last year, with running back and outside linebacker a concern. We have a relatively weak schedule and we have a good shot to improve to 10-6 this season, if Foster can come back. I'm thinking the first four games of the season are critical and will show us what to expect.

How could they keep Kmart and let Worthy go?
What possessed them to keep Lamm?
Must be getting ready to sign another DE.
Keep Thompson and get rid of Brown?
Should have cut McKinney and kept Bullough. Should have cut Dent and retained Tarp.
Keeping Rolle and Morris and cutting James? Are they crazy or just stupid?
Ballentine didn't need to stay.
Another QB must be signed. Can we trade Mallett to the Jets for Petty?

Houston Texans Fans: we worry and ***** because we cut the 7th cornerback on the roster.

This ******* team has done jack squat during its 13 years of existence. Roster moves by the worst GM in the NFL and a coach that is drinking the Kool-Aid about how a good a coach he thinks he is deserves a lot of examination. The criticism of our 53 man roster is warranted. We aren't the Baltimore Ravens with the best GM in football and a Super Bowl winning head coach. The Texans have done NOTHING to earn the benefit of the doubt. I am going to make a prediction. This team will crash and burn this year. Shitty drafting by Dick Smith and our garbage QBs will cause the chickens to come to roost on the 2015 Texans.

Really the only thing that stands out to me atm is Thompson. That guy was constantly getting wrecked.

You can only suit up so many guys on gameday. I always try to remember that when guessing the 53. If James is your seventh corner and is not active on gameday then it might be better to have a young corner there that you actually like at corner learning and developing and ready to step into the defense if needed.

That said, I'd have kept James. Dude was a competitor and he busted his ass...he was good on special teams....could get a carry here or there and he wasn't Petey Faggins bad at corner from what we saw.

Also, I don't think it was just that one play for Martin. He looks like a completely different player. I was a big hater of him as a player for a while, but I think the Texans are doing right to see if he can carry this over to gameday.

He was our most consistent Wr in pre season. Good routes, got open a lot, made the catches, finally looks like his not playing timid. He was our leading receiver.

Plus he can field kicks and punts.

At worse, I think they could try to trade him to a Wr needy team if any exist.

I wonder how many people complaining about certain players being cut would still hold their position had the Texans not been covered by Hard Knocks. Getting to see a glimpse of these players' personalities makes the fans get attached to these guys more than just from a football standpoint.

It's why coaches find cut day so painful, because they are going to end up releasing good character guys, and some with families they need to take care of as well.

-EZ is a fringe NFL talent.

-James II is a special teams ace with no real upside playing the corner position.

-K. Brown is terrible against the run.

-Trail is rawer than sushi.

Also this isn't me just attempting to completely trash any of these players, as I had predicted all four to make the 53 roster the other day. So back to the question; Would y'all still feel the same had you not gotten a glimpse into these players' lives?
