Undisciplined

The only thing I would add…..Azeez really had that left forearm wrapped heavily and his right arm pretty clean of any wrap. He used that left forearm to Help in enforcing the hit….why not use that unprotected right forearm as the lead for that hit? Because that would’ve probably hurt as much as the hit he delivered.

Feet first slides are treated different that head first dives...

A feet first slide means you are giving yourself up...

There really is no need to make contact at all with a runner sliding feet first. If possible you really should just completely avoid them once they have begun to slide...Or Treat it like a punt returner...Guys call fair catches at the last second all the time but the gunners will run right up on them and get in their face without making contact
I think it is a judgment call. Remember back in the first game against the Colts Stroud dove for a first down & made it past the marker but the ref spotted the ball where he started his dive not where he ended it.

Here is an article from 2018 'NFL rules will now treat head-first dives like feet-first slides'. Here is an excerpt from the NFL rules

"when a runner declares himself down by:

(1)falling to the ground, or kneeling, and clearly making no immediate effort to advance.

(2) sliding. When a runner slides feet or head first, or simulates sliding the ball is dead the instant he touches the ground with anything other than his hands or his feet, or begins to simulate touching the ground;"

Someone -already- has done this to Stroud. Do you not remember MetLife last season? IT’S FOOTBALL.

Shoot… I bet Roschon Johnson bought himself an Azeez jersey and had him sign it. If he did… it’d be a one of a kind too!

Besides I’m a fan of the Houston Texans, I buy Texans jerseys, not other teams. Your rebuke was silly.
Stroud was hit at the end of a throw which happens ALL of the time in football, the hit wasn’t even late. He wasn’t hit while giving himself up. Not surprising you think that Jets hit was a dirty hit. It also unsurprising that you cannot differentiate the two.

You know how to fix this?

Take away the protections of the QB. When they run past the LOS they are just like any other player. Just like a RB. Then let’s see how many QBs we have running.

Protections or not, it was a dirty play. Even if Lawrence wasn't sliding or if it was a RB, you don't go after a ball carrier with a forearm. That's not how you play tackle football.

It was a stupid play by Azeez that looks like is going to cost his team for at least 1 more game. You can't play stupid like that and hurt your team.

So because I don't run my mouth you know me? You judge me because I didn't do something? Does my not saying it was bad mean I thought it was good? How many others didn't say anything about the hit? Did you judge them too?
You can’t even say the hit warranted a penalty or it was bad shows you either condone it or can’t be objective about your favorite team. Was it a bad hit or not?

He has a history. He isn’t a perfect Berfect but he is trying hard. I also don’t buy his excuse for even one nanosecond. That is complete horse bleep. Guys avoid and/or lighten their hit every freaking game in the NFL on those slides. It’s not hard to do. But the real tell is the forearm. As he is approaching and launching his body toward a man already in mid-slide, he puts his forearm in a “club” position, as if to use it as a weapon. That is the part he cannot escape, and the part that will have the NFL’s anttention.

And I have watched it over and over. I honestly do not think he was purposely going for the head. Nope - he was aiming squarely for Trevor’s left shoulder. The one that is injured, and is ultra sensitive right now.

Any way it’s sliced, it’s a pure cheap shot. And the issue is - this isn’t his first rodeo. I can think of 3 incidents this year alone. This one was the worst, but in the Chicago game, he took a cheap shot at Caleb after we was CLEARLY out of bounds…then threw a punch at Johnson who had come to Caleb’s aid. We debated this at the time. 90% of the board took his side - I thought it was a cheap shot. Still do.

I love good, mentally and physically tough LB’s that lay the wood. But It has to be done correctly, within the rules, with integrity, and not with intent to injure. It’s a game for crying out loud. But most importantly, I like smart LB’s who play the game the right way and do so smartly. Azeez has proven himself to be very very very dumb. Like caveman dumb. He will now likely be suspended at least one game, possibly more…costing his team.

If I am the Texans, I am cutting him, or looking to trade him in the offseason. For me, he is persona non grata from now on. He can disappear as far as I’m concerned.

Yep. He was going for Trevor’s shoulder.

Silly play and well OTT, but I also think the hooha being made of it is OTT as well.

He probably does deserve a suspension, there’s a fair body of evidence that he’s going after this sort of play semi-regularly.

Annoying because he’s an important player when available, but hasn’t been available enough this season.
How many games has he missed this season? I know he had a knee issue, but I don't think he's missed an inordinate amount of time.

I do agree with this, it is like Mahomes sometimes will make it look like he is about to step out of bounds so the defense pulls up and he stays inbounds for more yards and they all look like idiots.
That's why what happened to Goldy locks yesterday needs to happen to Mahomes even if it means getting a suspension. If the refs are going to cheat and Mahomes is going to take advantage of the rules, then players need to take things into their own hands. Screw Goodell

Caleb was not only not clearly out of bounds, he was in fact completely in bounds.

Yes, completely different circumstances.

Caleb was not only not clearly out of bounds, he was in fact completely in bounds.

My fault on this one. I was remembering it differently. Now I remember why I thought it was a cheap shot. He was about a half-step from being out of bounds and a hit of any kind was completely unnecessary. But not only did he hit him, he decleated him right as he is crossing the sideline. Although the circumstances were a bit different than I had recalled...that's still very much a cheap shot.

What happened to Trevor is part and parcel of who this guy is. He should be removed from the team ASAP.

Demeco again takes up for him and blames the Jags.

I'm happy to agree to disagree, but I disagree completely.

If you're within the white lines and carrying the ball you're fair game, barring a QB sliding. And if you're a defender and you have a chance to hit the opposing ballcarrier, with the potential benefit of dislodging the ball from their possession, then you absolutely do it. That situation was all on Caleb for either not getting fully out of bounds or not being ready for contact. Azeez did the unquestionable right thing there and popped him.

Azeez released a statement and apologized. It seems genuine. There was no ill intent on his part. It’s football… time to move forward and get ready for Miami.
Exactly right, it was a bang bang play, nobody here knows his true intent, character, or heart despite how they feel.

And by bang bang I mean, when you are looking at it in slow motion it looks like more time went by before he launches especially from the side angel. From the back angle he launches after the QB starts the slide but you can see exactly when both make their respective moves. It would be interesting to know in real time how much time went by before he launches after the slide, my guess it's only a couple of a hundredths of a second. I am not making excuses but it is not easy for a defender to make that type of adjustment every time. The optics are horrible from the side angle because he comes in from out of frame. It is what it is, he was flagged and will be fined.

Another shameless post.
Get off your moral high horse and quit judging people. That's your entire problem and you go on and on about it with anyone who has a different opinion. You started this whole thread over your feelings.

If you are so smart, get a job in the NFL and affect change. Until then, you are just crying behind your keyboard. All I see is you stirring the pot, which is shameless in and of itself.

Bellichik said today on his radio show that defenders have a tough job in relation to the QB sliding.
He mentioned Mahomes with the fake OB and how it makes defenders look silly.
He said it was a split second decision he made. Tough play in that situation.
Also said he didn’t agree with the forearm.

The forearm is the dead giveaway that his apology is as fake as a cubic zirconia. And it’s wrapped up to boot. He used it like a club, aiming toward the injured left shoulder, but also ended up clubbing him in the head and neck area, causing his head to hit the turf violently. That wouldn’t fly 20 years ago, much less 2024. That some are not only defending, but celebrating this careless act, is odd to me. At the very very least, he is costing his team his valuable asset - his play on the field. Just on that alone, it should be condemned.

You guys ***** and Moan about Stupid plays, silly penalties, undisciplined play all the time…suddenly you guys seem to like it. Freaking bizarre.

I think that is what we have all been saying.

Except for one or two people.

Texans fans have some good people in it. There’s also hypocrites like you who want to win at all costs because Texans fans don’t know what it’s like to actually win. It was a dirty play. He will be suspended. That is not debatable. You chose to post here.
How in the world did you come to that conclusion. Wow unbelievable

And this is coming from a future HOF Defensive minded HC.

Enough said time to move on

He certainly leads with his arm when tackling. I did too when I played back in high school. I would get cuts and bruises on my left forearm. Could it be possible that’s why he padded his? Doesn’t mean he was trying to “club” him.

Unfortunate all the way around
Sh*t if you do and sh*t if you don't
It's a very fast like split-second moving pumped up emotional, physical, reaction of sport competition around particular plays in games.
IMHO I don't think he wanted nor any other athlete wants to intentionally injure another athlete in a game.
Az-Sh chill out mon'

The other team brought it on on after that to make this an entire media fiasco

Telling the truth isn’t trolling. I also asked you a question. Was it a bad hit or not? Are you going to answer or not?
It was illegal, not dirty. Many of Demeco's guys say if you don't tackle with "intensity", you don't play. Aziz brings the wood. Did you see Fred Warner hitting people last night even right as they go out of bounds. Aziz screwed up in a hard/fast situation, and will pay the toll for it. You are not going to change all our minds by saying the same thing over and over. I am fine with him being on the Texans, everything I have seen and read says he is a fine human being and a machine on the field. When I played HS and college as a LB, I was not recognizable on the field to people who knew me outside the game. You have to turn a switch. I want guys who have too much juice, not ones who have too litttle.

No question it was an illegal hit. Split second to make a decision, that's fine, shit happens. Throw the flag and march off 15. None of that is the problem IMO. The problem is he led with his forearm trying to pop the dude into next week. That's where it went from a regular ol illegal roughing 15 yard penalty to also a dirty hit worthy of an ejection.

This. And then he showed no remorse and took his helmet off ready to fight. Taking your own helmet off to fight on a football field bleeds stupidity.

The other team protected their QB like any team should do. Stroud gets sacked and guys don’t help him up.

I think it was a dirty hit. Looks like he targeted Trevor's head with his forearm, but missed & hit him in the neck area. I'm disappointed DeMeco wasn't sending him to the locker room immediately. He should have had him escorted off the field from jump.

At the same time, this team needed some juice. DeMeco can't controll what happened. But he can use it to affect what happened next. There was a lot of adrenaline flowing on both sides of the line. He's got to be able to channel it.
I think the reason why it got so bad is the area it happened on the field.. right along the Jaguars' sideline.. DeMeco was on the other side of the field. Plus a mob of pissed off NFL players is not something I'd want to jump in the middle of.
