Undisciplined

I'm wondering why Mahomes hasn't already gotten hit like Goldy Locks did today. Used to when QBs ran they were taking their lives into their own hands. The NFL needs to get back to this style of play, rather than the bastardized version of flag football God'ells NFL currently is playing.
If the rules were the old rules and Sunshine was running for the first down like he was today, he would have either lowered the boom on the LBer or juked him for more yards.
My point being, if it were the old rules, Sunshine gets up and runs his arse back to the huddle for the next play!!

No offense, but if that was his thought process then neither of you understand the rules.

The ball is spotted where the qb BEGINS their slide. Not where they end up.

This rule is like that specifically to prevent hits like this. There is no need to attempt to stop the QB's momentum because it's not where they end up at it's where they began the slide.
I thought it is spotted exactly where they get touched. i mean they can get right back up if they aren’t touched.

No they can not get right back up to continue the play. In this instance the player is giving himself up by sliding. If a player gives himself up, the play is over. He does not have to be touched. And as mentioned the ball is to be placed at the beginning of the slide.

Feet first slides are treated different that head first dives...

A feet first slide means you are giving yourself up...

An official shall declare the ball dead and the down ended:

  1. when a runner is contacted by an opponent and touches the ground with any part of his body other than his hands or feet. The ball is dead the instant the runner touches the ground. A runner touching the ground with his hands or feet while in the grasp of an opponent may continue to advance; or

Note: If, after contact by an opponent, any part of a runner’s leg above the ankle or any part of his arm above the wrist touches the ground, the runner is down.
  2. when a runner is held or otherwise restrained so that his forward progress ends.
  3. when a quarterback immediately drops to his knee (or simulates dropping to his knee) behind the line of scrimmage.

Note: If a quarterback does not immediately drop to a knee, and contact from a rushing defender is unavoidable, it is not a foul unless the defender commits some other act that would constitute unnecessary roughness.

  4. when a runner declares himself down by:
    1. falling to the ground, or kneeling, and clearly making no immediate effort to advance.
    2. sliding feet-first on the ground. When a runner slides feet-first, the ball is dead the instant he touches the ground with anything other than his hands or his feet.

      Notes:
    3. Defenders are required to treat a sliding runner as they would a runner who is down by contact.
    4. A defender must pull up when a runner begins a feet-first slide. This does not mean that all contact by a defender is illegal. If a defender has already committed himself, and the contact is unavoidable, it is not a foul unless the defender makes forcible contact into the head or neck area of the runner with the helmet, shoulder, or forearm, or commits some other act that is unnecessary roughness.
    5. A runner who desires to take advantage of this protection is responsible for starting his slide before contact by a defensive player is imminent; if he does not, and waits until the last moment to begin his slide, he puts himself in jeopardy of being contacted.

There really is no need to make contact at all with a runner sliding feet first. If possible you really should just completely avoid them once they have begun to slide...Or Treat it like a punt returner...Guys call fair catches at the last second all the time but the gunners will run right up on them and get in their face without making contact

So actually, I see that the NCAA has implemented a fake slide rule:

In a statement to Sports Illustrated on Friday, Steve Shaw—the secretary-rules editor for the NCAA football rules committee—confirmed that the new rule interpretation will take place in time for the 2021–22 postseason.

“This interpretation will be in effect for the Bowl Season and the FCS/DII/DIII playoffs going forward,” Shaw said. “The original rule was put in place to protect runners who wanted to end the play without contact and allowed them to slide feet first. Defenders have learned to hold up and back off.

“If we were to allow the fake slide, the defense may now not hold up, and we could see many unnecessary and dangerous hits. One point of note apart from this interpretation, the ruling has to be done by on-field officials and is not reviewable by Instant Replay under Rule 12-3-3 – Dead Ball and Loose Ball. We can have that part of the debate in the off season.”

From what I can see the NFL does not have a specific "fake slide rule" but in the rule book they do mention "simulating" a slide would lead to the play being called dead.

It’s football…
Slide or no slide. It’s was a quick play. Azeez is a very physical player. We cannot make that call when adrenaline is flowing and is in the heat of the moment…
Bullsh*t. That’s why he was ejected. He clearly launched AFTER Lawrence started his slide. That is not up for debate.

No I am not defending him. Just pointing out that you knew nothing about it before the Texans played Chicago this year and he stupidly threw a punch at your cousin and now you hate him and will do everything you can to bad mouth him. You're not objective and that colors everything you say
I’m being very objective because he was ejected for his play today. That’s a second occurrence. He didn’t get ejected for the first because the ref somehow missed it or he would have. You’re defending it and claiming you’re not. Own what you are doing. You feel the need to come back at me about the first time. That’s fine. Today? He lost his temper acted like an a**hole after the hit. That was despicable and shows he is a loser.

I think it was a dirty hit. Looks like he targeted Trevor's head with his forearm, but missed & hit him in the neck area. I'm disappointed DeMeco wasn't sending him to the locker room immediately. He should have had him escorted off the field from jump.

At the same time, this team needed some juice. DeMeco can't controll what happened. But he can use it to affect what happened next. There was a lot of adrenaline flowing on both sides of the line. He's got to be able to channel it.

Not going to lie, my first impression when seeing it live was that it was dirty. I actually felt bad for Trevor and I pretty much never feel bad for opposing players who get hit hard by our guys...that fencing pose is just hard to look at.

That said, I do prefer guys who you have to reel back some vs guys you have to amp up. I havent looked at any of the other "Azeez is dirty" vids so i may be speaking from ignorance...but id just correct him and move on and hope it doesnt become a habit ala Vontaze Burfict.

I have yet to even see you say that hit was bad. You’re showing your colors.
So because I don't run my mouth you know me? You judge me because I didn't do something? Does my not saying it was bad mean I thought it was good? How many others didn't say anything about the hit? Did you judge them too?

Silly play and well OTT, but I also think the hooha being made of it is OTT as well.

He probably does deserve a suspension, there’s a fair body of evidence that he’s going after this sort of play semi-regularly.

Annoying because he’s an important player when available, but hasn’t been available enough this season.

Look i think we are all avoiding the elephant in the room.... Black on white crime is a problem in America and yesterday shows it. WQLM :boogereater:

You know how to fix this?

Take away the protections of the QB. When they run past the LOS they are just like any other player. Just like a RB. Then let’s see how many QBs we have running.

I do agree with this, it is like Mahomes sometimes will make it look like he is about to step out of bounds so the defense pulls up and he stays inbounds for more yards and they all look like idiots.

He was giving himself up, sliding. I think it's the same for any player who slides. QBs are the only ones secure enough in their manhood to slide, but I believe the rule is the same for anyone.

There are 2 distinct parts of this play:

1. The slide and could he pull himself back

2. The use of a forearm to another players head as a tackling technique

For the first, it looks like a slide all the way to me but in real time on the field probably harder to call.

For the second? Could you imagine a LB doing this to Stroud?

We’d have his skin.

Edit: And none of this makes Meco’s coaching style “undisciplined”.

The above parts are true. However, Demeco should not have waited for him to be ejected. He should have had him in the tunnels before that as waiting led to a temper tantrum and fans throwing garbage on the field.

Still doesn’t make his style undisciplined because he didn’t knee jerk react to a complex fast situation on the field at the time.

Can’t criticize Demeco. The style of football you have seen all season and the penalties, you know better.

Not a personal thing man, lol

I don’t like the penalties either, not sure what to chalk those up to yet.

As far as Al Shaair is concerned he’s good player that plays mean and gets stupid sometimes.

Not going to be Meco’s problem soon because I can’t see him not being suspended for his stupidity.

Sucks too because we need Azeez back there for this last stretch and hopefully the playoffs.

All fine and good if the zebras spot the ball correctly, but they don't. No reason to leave it up to the refs opinion and inclination, when Azeez can handle it on his own.

There is a history of QBs fake sliding or faking running out of bound in the NFL. So defensive players don’t want give up the big play.

The frame by frame screen shots don’t tell the story of what Azeez was seeing in the moment. Especially with the adrenaline flowing. The screen shots don’t show if he was launching at the same time or before the slide. Azeez may have committed mentally and didn’t have the thought process to change on the fly.

The elbow shouldn’t have come up. Had he just tackled and wrapped him up it wouldn’t be as big an issue.

What we really need to be talking about is the over/under for the fine and suspension from the play.

I’m guessing $50,000 and at least 4 games.

So when someone does this to Stroud I’ll be curious to see if you order their jersey too.
Someone -already- has done this to Stroud. Do you not remember MetLife last season? IT’S FOOTBALL.

Shoot… I bet Roschon Johnson bought himself an Azeez jersey and had him sign it. If he did… it’d be a one of a kind too!

Besides I’m a fan of the Houston Texans, I buy Texans jerseys, not other teams. Your rebuke was silly.
