Tunsil dealt to Washington

Well, well, well - I suggested the Texans trade Tunsil back in 2023 before they resigned him to a new contract, for a lot more in trade value than they got today. They could have received a 1st RD, a 2nd day, and a 3rd day draft picks. And they would not have been stuck with the $15,000,000 in dead money for 2025.

The Kool Aid drinkers came out in force wanting to BBQ my butt for suggesting such ignorance. Lo and behold, the Kool Aid drinkers are out in force celebrating Tunsil's trade today though.

2023 and 2025 are two completely different scenarios..

I still think it'd be stupid to trade your elite pass protector when starting a rookie QB.. Tunsil served his purpose in '23. Trading him with Stroud entering his 3rd season and plenty of starting experience/success is different. They better nail the "LT of the future" pick though.

If Tunsil is such a leader why does he play so undisciplined? That has ******* nothing to do with who he has to his right.
I would try to explain to you, but it wouldn't do any good.

I will ask you to look at the number of false starts before Patterson became the starting center vs after Patterson became the starting center.

I'm not celebrating. Go on record right now who else should be traded off of today's roster?

Where have you been?

I've been looking forward to talking the draft with you.

What no 1st round pick for one of the highest rated LT! Insane trade however the received picks can be used to trade up for Banks whom I believe can start day one.
Makes me think we were sellers looking for buyers... truly an indictment on Tunsil & the new OL coach. Until now I couldn't imagine why someone on the OL coaching staff would be carried over.

Now, I can just imagine some of some heated conversations abou what needed to be done.

How many players at any position have been traded for a 1st rd pick this off-season?

I get what your saying, especially in light of LTs looking for the perfect first step to counter pass rushers across the league, but if Tunsil is as elite as advertised shouldn't he been able to adjust?

If he's the leader he's advertised to be, shouldn't he have been able to get with the center and fix the problem?

I lost interest. The NFL became boring for me. Sorry I don't have anything to offer for the draft. When I lost interest in the NFL there was no reason for me to continue as a draftnik. What I have heard and from what college games I did watch, I'm hearing this is a bad draft. Is this true?

There was one game the refs called the game badly and Tunsil had like 5 false starts, Howard had 2 or 3.

Scruggs is flat out dumb. As Ron White said you cant fix stupid and Scruggs wasn't able to properly make the OL calls. The fact that things got better with Patterson at center should tell you all you need to know.

You just made me recall that either Nick/Demeco was specific about saying that Popovich was very good with the "young" Olmen. There was also the whole communication thing that was repeated.

Once again if he's as elite as advertised could he not have made the adjustment?

Lots of "it's not his fault" all of a sudden.

I've lost interest in the NFL, I love college ball and like to see how the draft picks turn out. I dont really like today's version of Arena League Football that passes off as NFL football these days.

Yes, it's a bad draft except for the DL/TE and RB positions.

Where did I say it wasn't his fault. I just asked you to make a correlation betwwn when Patterson was playing VS Scruggs. The OL plays as a unit and when you've got Scruggs playing C and Green playing LG (Both are slightly smarter than a potted plant) then no OL is going to look good and this just doesn't include Tunsil.

Did you notice how the OL as a whole improved after Patterson played C and Howard played LG? (Not saying they were good either, but they were better than the potted plants. This shouldn't be that difficult.

Howard voted for him because he thinks Laramie got him more money. Patterson and Fisher are newbies keeping their mouths shut. Mason didn't care about anything. Stroud no matter what he said in front of a camera, in my mind could not be happy with any of his offensive line.
What would you think if a rookie comes in & gets voted captain? I mean Howard is the most veteran dude on the roster...

I'm pretty stunned by how little they got in draft value. Separating out the player from the trade value, I'm absolutely surprised that the meager draft pick value was the best they could do amongst all the teams in the NFL. Again I get that Tunsil wasn't a model citizen, struggled at run blocking, and was a penalty machine... but at the end of the day an all-star LT has some intrinsic value.

Putting it into 2025 draft value (1 year later = 1 round higher): It's basically a 3rd, a 5th, and 3rd to a 4th. My issue if that a "fair trade" should go both ways, so where is an all-star LT that we could get for that value??? Hell raise it up by a pick, where can you find an all-star LT with a 2nd, a 4th, and a 4th.
Your reasoning is sound in my opinion and just underlines that the coaching feels like it was time for him to move on due to several things that we've already discussed. I think those things lowered his value to Houston and perhaps it is a warning to others on the team.

Knew you would come back once you found something to crow about.
I'm hearing this is a bad draft. Is this true?
Not good for QBs, so that makes it a bad draft to some. It's been described as a meat & potatoes draft. Not a lot of fluff, just some hard nosed players. Cam Skattebo is the poster boy for this draft.

Exactly. We absolutely are on the wrong side of this deal.

Are we really? His talents and his warts are on full display every Sunday. We all see what he does to drives and I don't care how good he's supposed to be he flat-out kills drives with that BS. Washington likely gave as much as anyone would offer for the chance to watch that. Now, Laremy comes out next season and is a changed man then it looks bad but to me it looks like he didn't give a s**t here enough to fix it in that case.

He comes out doing the same crap there that he did here and I'm delighted we're done paying him top dollar to screw up.

Breaking down the Tunsil trade by draft value points:

Texans receive
2025 3.79 = 195
2025 7.237 = 2
2026 2nd = 200
2026 4th = 35

Texans give up
2025 4.127 = 45
Laremy

Laremy + 45 = 195 + 2 + 200 + 35
Laremy = 387
387 = 2.52 + 7.210

Here was my estimation of Tunsil's draft value last month.

Tunsil is not worth the 10th pick in the draft. Maybe 2.41 + 3.72 if the texans paid $10 million
While admonishing someone's over estimation of Laremy's value, even I overvalued the possible haul. But the Commanders (flush with cap $$$) picked up the entire salary. Washington wins this trade if they get pre 2023 Tunsil over the next 2 years. If they get sloppy, injured Tunsil, the Texans fleeced them. I don't know what's going to happen. I do know the Texans weren't betting on Laremy getting his act together.

Steel won’t like this one at all. Watch out Nick Caserio you’re probably on his trash list now.
I'm not particularly happy about it either.
I certainly hope they aren't pinning their hopes on a rookie at LT.
Whoever fills that LT void, he has some big shoes to fill.

It feels like the Texans didn’t get enough for an elite, pass blocking LT.

However, if you take into consideration that they didn’t have any plans to extend him and the potential for him to holdout, then the trade makes more sense.

I pretty much agree with all of this.

Is Tunsil the only "elite" LT to be traded twice in his prime?

Coincidence? I think not. All the chicken littles make me chuckle. Removing a canker sore hurts…for a bit. Then new skin forms and it’s better then before. You can’t judge this trade whatsoever until, all the picks are in, and any and all corresponding moves with the da- space are complete. Like Tunsil is the only decent LT in the world. He SUCKED… CAPITAL LETTERS FOR YUUUGE EMPHASIS.

Bottom line…the canker sore is now Washington’s problem. Soon enough, Skins fans will be bitching and moaning how they got fleeced. Sorry Skins..no buyers remorse.

Yeah, I agree. I think this entire move was about culture. If LT was a focused, smart, prepared leader, he would still be here - regardless of money or cap considerations. I think this was about creating the team culture that they have long wanted. As long as you have someone who comes to practice when he wants, that culture is difficult to build.

I have gotten so many excited texts from Texans fans that I know, I've lost count. My phone was blowing up earlier. Anyone who pays attention to this team can see that Tunsil was a problem.

I too believe those picks will be used to move up...I don't have an opinion on who they would target. But I sure would like to know the plan for the OL post draft.
