I would've given up to 1sts for Brees, before they got Watson.
and that's probably why the Saints took the more expensive option and didn't give teams that chance

That figure has been thrown around by mostly no-name entities comparing him to Von Miller's $70 million guaranteed contract. There have been no credible numbers or assigned source to a proposed Clowney contract.I believe it, but where did you hear that ?

Jadeveon Clowney is listed as a DE/OLB because he plays all over the field for the Texans, but according to @ESPNStatsInfo, in 2018, he played 729 snaps at DE, 101 snaps at DT and 33 at LB.
Would take in a heartbeat but I am afraid everyone sees the same thing most of us see in regards to Clowney. I just hope I am wrong. I just hope they are still not trying to sign him to a long term deal.I don't think anyone offers up a crazy offer for Clowney when they stand to lose a couple of RD1 picks. I think the Texans could get a reasonable deal if they want to move Clowney....maybe a RD1 and RD3. If those become the Raiders picks....it's better than expected value based on slot, their RD3 would be an early pick and the RD1 would probably be their 27.
If Texans had RD1-23 & 27.....Texans could reasonably have McCoy and Risner still on the board. They could have Love and Johnson there in RD2. A DE/EDGE and WR could still be on the board in RD3.
The plus in this move, having (2) RD1-23 & 27, (2) RD2-22 & 23, and (2) RD3-02 & 23 for the 2019 NFL Draft.

I'm hearing Clowney wants 70 million guaranteed.
According to the info on this link, the Colts could do some damage by using some of their cap space to throw at JD.
"It’s a win-win for the Colts: Either they end up with a blue-chip free agent at a major position of need, or the Texans are forced to overpay for Clowney." ~ Steven Ruiz

Quick, can somebody give me the number to Clowney's dealer, because obviously he has some good ****.
that's really not a bad # when you factor in the rising cap every year, and players salaries going up accordingly. That's what Von Miller got 2 years ago, Donald has $81 guaranteed and Mack $90
And all of those guys have what Clowney doesn't, elite DPOY type of production and healthy knees.
If a divisional rival wants to toss us high draft picks for him, so be it.

Von Miller got $42 mil guaranteed at signing, Donald $50 mil and Mack $60 mil. The remaining amounts became guaranteed if they were on the roster on certain subsequent dates.
Clowney is not as good as any of the 3 and they didn't have his injury history.
It wasn't said he wanted $70 at signing, just that he wanted $70 guarenteed
If you don't understand how players contract go up yearly I can't help you there.
So why would we want to put the tag on Clowney?
You don't understand NFL contracts.Contracts go up yearly, how long did JJ stay as the top dog when it came to pay? Lesser guys started surpassing him the next year, that's how it works

Chiefs are trying to trade Houston, not FordThe chiefs are trying to trade dee ford after just franchising him. Hes a true OLB unlike Clowney who I think is more of a 4-3 DE. Chiefs are transitioning to a 4-3. I would reach out to the chiefs if i were the Texans to trade players. But trades like that rarely happen.
Chiefs are trying to trade Houston, not Ford
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Chiefs are "open" to trading franchise-tagged OLB Dee Ford.
ESPN's Adam Schefter echoes the same thing. New Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo is switching the Chiefs' base defense from a 3-4 to a 4-3 front, and Ford isn't viewed as strongly a fit in that style. Ford really elevated his play in his contract year, which is always concerning when it comes time to pay a player, but he's in his prime and would command a high pick in return. The pass-rush market has since dried up with Ford, Jadeveon Clowney, DeMarcus Lawrence, and Frank Clark all getting slapped with the franchise tag this week.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport speculated it might only take a second-round pick to acquire franchise-tagged OLB Dee Ford.
"Maybe someone would throw them a, say, second-round pick," Rapoport said. "It doesn't need to be two ones. A second-round pick, perhaps." The quote did not sound like a hard report, but RapSheet specifically mentioning a second-round pick is interesting. Multiple reports have emerged about the Chiefs wanting to move Ford since they tagged him, and Kansas City has not done anything to tamp down those rumors. There appears to be a real chance Ford is moved in the next couple weeks, especially if the Chiefs only want a second-round pick.

Why not trade for Justin Houston and remove the tag from Clowney?Chiefs could be making the same mistake the Texans did.....by trying to make Ford a DE in 4-3 defense. Clowney was a 4-3 DE from the day he was drafted. The Texans insisted on making him a 3-4 OLB. After investing the 1-1 in Clowney, they should've switched to a 4-3 b/c there's no doubt in my mind that the transition would've been in Watt's best interest as well.
Personally, I think a Clowney for Ford deal would be really good for both teams. Put both guys in defenses they are built for and pay them. Another issue removed from the Texans 2019 to do list.

The Texans could also agree to take less in a sign and trade deal. Where Clowney signs the tender, the Texans trade him to another team for agreed to terms, and Clowney signs an extended deal with new team. Not predicting this will happen. I actually predict it won't happen. Just saying that it has happened like that many times.
Will be interesting to see the trade deal for Antonio Brown. Do you think Clowney should be more or less valuable than AB?
I just hope Texans are taking offers for Clowney.
The knee is the variable that makes Clowney's value so hard to determine. Because of the expectation of impending doom, I would really like to see them trade Clowney for draft picks. There are some really good Edge and DL prospects in this draft.More valuable
He's a force on the DL and those guys are more valuable than WR's, even more valuable than a great WR like Brown. Plus Clowney is young and AB probably has 3-4 more productive yrs left. That's if Clowney's knee holds up.

That is basically where I am with it, though I am leaning more towards trading now when he still has value. That knee really scares me.I'm in the camp of I wont be really p!ssed if they trade Clowney or if they keep him. As long as they dont sign him long term.
If you’re moving on from Clowney you better be able to replace him instantly or the defense will suffer big time.
People can undervalue him all they want but he does a lot for the defense and no it doesn’t always result in sexy stats.
I dunno would Brian Gaine part with Clowney for a second round pick ?Will be interesting to see the trade deal for Antonio Brown. Do you think Clowney should be more or less valuable than AB?

I don't think one 2nd would be enough. 2nd this year and 2nd next year, or and 2nd and 3rd maybe. I think we need multiple picks. It will be interesting to see if something does develop. I have heard nothing about JD in trade rumors to this point.I dunno would Brian Gaine part with Clowney for a second round pick ?
[Jay Glazer] Lost in all the talk of Antonio Brown trade talk is the fact that there’s been a lot of chatter among teams looking to trade for premium pass rusher such as Clowney, Frank Clark, Dee Ford.

Yeah, but Glazer doesn't know what's going on in the NFL. He's just a rumor mongerer.
Let it go bro

Better not. I will burn things if they do.
Can't believe for 3 time pro bowler we are talking about a 2nd round draft choice. I just hope we underestimate him more than the people that matter. Hope raiders don't go for AB because if they do I don't think JD is in their future. He has unlimited physical ability when healthy but even when healthy he seems to lack something. Concerned about last game against Colts. Again I feel when you get to the playoffs against a good QB, good OL and good OC the DL rush gets nullified. OL, Secondary, WR, and RB could be considered a higher priority for Texans than keeping JD even if he didn't have injury concern. I again don't think you get a RD 1 for him but at least a 2nd and a 4th maybe. Obviously more is better.High 2nd? Obviously more is better, but Clowney is a unique case.
Dude has always been odd for me. Didn't want to draft him, have since been impressed more than most but still want clear before the grenade goes off.

I wonder if it would be possible to trade Clowney then sign Trey Flowers In FA. I bet we could get 85% of Clowney’s production at a reduced price. In fact, if we could take Clowney’s money and add an inside rusher plus Flowers (it would take a little more but we’ve got the space) we might be a better Defense on the whole
Flowers will not be reduced price. With all the top pass rushers being franchised, Flowers is the best guy available.
He's going to get paid.
