The Johnny "Football" Manziel NFL thread

Johnny out partying again, building his resume - link

He has to be one of the dumbest MF'ers on earth. Just have a little discretion. It's like he wants to prove he is above any restraint.

JFF has screwed the pooch on his NFL career multiple times. That said, this is the off-season. There's no OTAs to attend. No mandatory mini-camps to wake up late for. Unless you were expecting JFF to become Mr Clean and Sober, I don't get the point of hating on him for conduct in late January.

I don't care what he does but we're talking millions here.

Johnny Manziel Signs Point to Breakup

Johnny Bachelor?

After nearly 2 years of dating, it appears Johnny Manziel and Colleen Crowley may have broken up ... and the proof? They've both deleted pics of each other off of Instagram.

The two reportedly began dating before the 2014 draft -- and stayed together through all of Manziel's drama ... including his stint in rehab and a police incident in which she told cops Johnny struck her during an argument.

But word on the street is things have cooled between the two -- and both Johnny and Colleen have each removed several pics of each other from their Instagram pages ... a typical move from couples who break up.

Plus, Manziel was spotted out in Dallas this weekend without Colleen ... so, rebounding?

Breakups usually don't bode well for an alcoholic.

Worse problem yet, where is Johnny going to find another GF with a nose like his?:backsout:

But in college, being the football QB is still a part-time, part-year job.........in the NFL, it better be a year-around job.
I'd slightly disagree. Lots of NFL QBs have been party animals in the offseason. Manziel is just one of the first in the new age of technology with the constant, nonstop updates on everything he does outside of football. As long as a QB is staying in shape, working out, etc., he can party all he wants to in the offseason.

Problem is, and the point I was making, is Manziel can't seem to even control himself during the season. I mean from July/August through early January, you better be all football all the time. If you do that, you can party, have your fun, and enjoy the life of a QB in the offseason. But once again, Manziel is proving he can't even do that.

One thing that easily gets overlooked.........the NFL football players I've known kept their noses in and study the playbook and film during the offseason as well as during the season. Players commonly have their own collection of games to study film at home. The playbook has always had to be dumbed down significantly for Manziel...........in college that may have worked for him........not usually for long in the NFL.

I'm beginning to think that it's becoming a rarity.

Here's an article from 2012 that sheds a little light on the typical "party attitude" for young NFL players. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...friday-is-the-most-dangerous-night-in-the-nfl

While JFF is certainly an extreme outlier, he's definitely not the only getting "unfocused" during the week.

That's not fair doc. Most people require multiple trips to rehab before they make the necessary changes.
I'm fully aware of that, but most of those that go on to succeed WANT to remove themselves from their demons and overtly show genuine EFFORT towards that end.......despite the fact that they may still fail...........but then will go back to working on achieving their goal. Rehab is only a small part of why people overcome their debility.

Just like JFF has relied on and gotten by on pure athleticism while putting little effort into what is usually at least as important to succeed in the NFL..... playbook/film work, he has relied on the facade of an entirely controlled temporary rehab environment, essentially showing no glimpse of effort on his own once out in the real world to work on controlling his environment on his own and directing any efforts to affect a change.

Why? It's simple.........he doesn't believe it's important............in his mind, why should it be?...............just like since HS, he sees no reason to change............all long, he's been enabled with excuses being made for him at every level..............that continues to this very day.........So, Party, Party, Party, Party on !!

I don't know why anybody cares. He's a not very good QB who doesn't seem to care that he's not very good.

Why do people talk about this clown?

I was asking TK if he cared why CnD was posting

I remember Romo getting a hard time for his public/private lifestyle.

And what, exactly, has Romo ever accomplished in the NFL?

The QBs that you do not hear about partying and acting like fools: Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Newton, Wilson. Not saying they don't like to have a good time, but the good time is not a huge part of their persona.

Behind closed doors no one sees so no one can care. JFF prefers a glass house so the entire world can see

Manziel is a little peacock who likes to strut around and be seen. That much is painfully obvious. I honestly think he sees himself as an entertainer more than a football player, and the 24 hours news media caters to such narcissistic individuals. He's really just the Kim Kardashian of the NFL. All hat and no cattle, as my grandpa used to say.

Little Jonnys NFL will be coming to an end soon enough. Even if he goes to Dallas where it's seems they want him he'll have to show some ability but in The end he won't be able to. Not just because he's an immature boy but also because he lacks the skill set, ability, accumen, dedication, desire... And on and on. He's just a boy trying to fool everyone he can play a mans game.

I have the feeling that if Manziel doesn't get released by June 1, in his haste to be released, we may see him pull a grand finale desperation act to get himself freed...........one that may in fact end up being a final act of NFL career self-destruction that will even close the door to Jerry World.

Police were called to investigate an incident involving Cleveland Brownsquarterback Johnny Manziel in Fort Worth, Texas, this weekend.

Fort Worth police said in a statement Saturday that an incident report was being compiled "regarding an altercation between Manziel and his girlfriend." Police said Manziel was not arrested. Additional details were not immediately available.

Update:

Sgt. Steve Enright later identified him as Manziel. There were no arrests, and it’s not clear if Manziel has yet been questioned.

Police didn’t say if the woman was hurt. An ambulance was called, but she was not taken to a hospital.

The police report said the woman was uncooperative with officers, who were unable to locate a crime scene. The woman raised concerns about her ex-boyfriend’s well-being. Police tried calling Manziel’s cell phone and searching for him — including by helicopter, per the Star-Telegram — before it determined he was safe.

Fort Worth police are working with Dallas police to determine if a crime occurred.

The Browns had no immediate comment Saturday.

Beyond the legal matter, Manziel could face discipline from the league. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in an email the league is “aware and looking into it.”

Helicopter? Manziel is beginning to garner too much attention from the wrong people and is beginning to have too many costly resources used up in his idiotic antics.

Can't wait for the plug to be pulled on this bust out.
I'm beginning to wonder if some of these incidents are staged. I'm finding it hard to believe anyone in his position affluenza or not could be that incredibly reckless with his future if he really deep down wants to play professional football.

Perhaps he wants out of Cleveland BAD!

Particularly concerning about this incident? Police needed a helicopter to track down Manziel.

Via Cleveland.com:
According to a statement by the Forth Worth police, they used their Air One Unit helicopter to try to find Manziel because the female -- who told police Manziel was her ex-boyfriend -- was worried about his well-being.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports police don't consider using a helicopter to search for someone "unusual" and said the usage of the helicopter wasn't a result of Manziel being a public figure.

Fort Worth police said the use of their helicopter was within guidelines and not influenced by Manziel's status as a sports and public figure.

The department “will deploy all useful personnel or tools available to fully investigate any call,” said Cpl. Tracey Knight, a police spokeswoman. “Especially when there is a concern for the health or safety of a person.”

But here's the reality: requiring a helicopter to become part of a search for someone who appears on Instagram every other day, someone who should be easily reachable and someone with Manziel's fame and off-field problems is a major concern.

It might be more concerning if the helicopter wasn't about Manziel's fame -- this is a big-time red flag for someone who clearly needs help.

This is the second time Manziel and Crowley were involved in an "incident" that resulted in the police being involved. The two were involved in a roadside incident in October of this year.

Somehow Johnny Football's second NFL offseason is going worse than his first.

Perhaps he wants out of Cleveland BAD!

After this last episode, I doubt that this is a stand alone explanation, nor am I convinced that this will have improved his chances that the Cowboys save his skin (Jerry may be taken behind the barn for a little convincing). It is one thing to have a defensive end on your roster to be screwed up......and another for a QB who may become the leader of your team to be so messed up. Furthermore, if the purpose was to get out of Cleveland and Join the Cowboys, he has essentially closed the door to every other team.

Yeah I think actually he's just an immature kid with a bad case of MEitis. I don't think he plans to go out and get in the spotlight, but doesn't avoid it either. He doesn't listen, or doesn't have any guidance from someone grounded in reality

Quincy Carter was dropped like a hot potato just before the season began and he was the starter. I'm not suggesting that Manziel would be a good fit as a Cowboys backup, but Cowboys will give you a chance and will cut you loose without ceremony.

That was Bill Parcells though. Much different show than what's going on there now.

The guys on 610 made a good point this morning. Only a couple of seasons removed from the Ray Rice fiasco and the NFL is going to be forced to do something about Manziel. That's two calls for a 'domestic situation'. If they don't suspend him and something worse happens...

From Cleveland.com
The Browns don't need three Harvard-educated front office members to know what's right here. New coach Hue Jackson and co-owner Dee Haslam – a member of a nine-person NFL conduct committee formed in 2014 – strike me as folks who were ready for a clean break even before Saturday's altercation. Cleveland.com recently reported Jackson made it clear in the interview process he wants to move on from No. 2.

The Browns stood by Manziel when he went through rehab last spring and did their best to protect his privacy. What they shouldn't do now is try to recoup compensation for him in a trade market that doesn't open until March. The organization's integrity should be worth more than a late or conditional draft pick.

If Jerry Jones still wants Manziel, it's the Cowboys owner who should be placed in the league's concussion protocol.

Unless the NFL prohibits any move during an open investigation or suspension, Cleveland needs to release Johnny Manziel on Feb. 8. The Browns don't need analytics to guide them -- just a bit of common sense.

As crazy as that sounds I think it's possible too. I mean he might already know that he can't cut it in the league and he's hoping to parlay his antics into some other showbiz opportunity. Either that or he knows he's not good enough and say's 'eff it, I'm going out in a blaze of glory;. If so it reminds me of Costanza trying to get fired from the Yankees.

ESPN is reporting that the Browns will cut 8 Ball come March when the cap increases.
ESPN gives explanation why release will not occur prior to March 9 (instead of Feb after the SB):

The Browns released a statement from new director of football operations Sashi Brown on Tuesday that expressed disappointment in Manziel but stopped short of saying the quarterback's run in Cleveland is over.

"We've been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field. Johnny's continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization," Brown said. "His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time."

The reference to league rules points to the fact that the Browns do not have the salary cap space to release Manziel on Feb. 8, the day after the Super Bowl and the first day they can do so. The move will take place when the new NFL year starts March 9, according to the source. Releasing Manziel in February would count $4.6 million against the cap, and due to the cap's machinations, the Browns do not have that space -- and will not have it in February. The cap will increase in March, which will allow them to release Manziel then.

The Browns can also try to trade him when the league year begins, however, but likely will encounter difficulty doing so because of his off-field issues.

Anyone think Jerry sends a conditional 7th for Manziel?
I sure hope that happens! This is one instance that I definitely like the Texans not taking big risks on bad character players. He needs to be at a Betty Ford clinic instead of on an NFL roster.

As little credit as I give to Jerry as it relates to football operations, I give him more than that.

I think (and I hope) that if JFF's ever going to be on a NFL roster again, it's going to require a sincere and extensive image rehab. Sadly, this might be different had Johnny demonstrated a greater level of on field performance than he did, but while I wouldn't characterize him as totally unable to compete at the NFL level, I also didn't see anything that would entice a NFL team to take a big risk on him.

From a business perspective, it's probably worth the jersey sales alone. Manziel still has a dedicated fan base that would buy them up, especially here in Texas.

Agree with that, but it feels like Stephen Jones has had more input over personnel moves recently and seemingly has been able to talk Jerry out of some very Jerry like moves recently (like drafting JFF in the first place). But who knows, Jerry just might not be able to contain himself this time around.

If Jerry takes Johnny, there will be so many stipulations involved that if he so much as sneezes, he's is outta there. It's a well known fact that if a chance is to be taken on a player, Jerry is the man. If the chance doesn't pan out, he hasn't lost much more than the cost of a box of doughnuts. Once I saw the well known body guard/baby sitter show up at the last game, I'm waiting for news of the next big cut.

The Cowboys were not shy to show how enamored they were with Wentz at the senior bowl, so much that people are either mocking Wentz to the cowboys now or saying its just a smoke screen to entice someone else to trade up with them. Now if they do sign Manziel would that ruin their "smoke screen"?

Hardy had a game by game type contract, so I would expect something similar here if they take a chance on him

Not that well thought out. Hypothetical...........Manziel signed as backup..........Romo breaks his collarbone during the first game of the season........Manziel, who has gone through no successful rehab, takes over the face of the franchise........runs around in his usual circles leaving a big fat circle in the scorebox........booed by the fan base.........can't take the pressure.........parties and drinks all night long and beats his girlfriend or ex-girlfriend or whatever girl happens to be available............Cowboys, with wasted preseason QB experience leaving no viable alternative, can't recover, and miss the playoffs again..........fan base revolts and assassinates Jerry.......... :spy:
