Personally I'd be all for it. Takes a lot of pressure off a top 10 pick. He's just got to do his job & that's not going to be easy for a rookie CB anyway.

Secondly, I'd think the Browns should be happier that the media is talking about JFF & not all the other crap they could be talking, should be talking, about the Browns.

Even with that bad slant they're putting on all of it, JFF brings them hope.

Let him play a game in the NFL! Signed Joe "Broadway" Namath! (who BTW was not necessarily a great QB but he was brash....... At the end of the day, he lived up to it, earned it, owned it!)

This kid could flame out faster than VY (which was kinda predictable).... Then again, he could go onto greatness.

Quit speculating. Let it play out irrespective of all the media 24/7 news cycle, and social media BS!!!

O'Brien: Manziel didn't fit Texans' vision

The last question of the night came from a Texas A&M alumnus. The man asked O’Brien if there was any internal debate with the Texans about moving up in the first round in a move to select Manziel toward the back side of the opening round.

“No,” O’Brien said to a loud cheer. “Sorry.”

“We spent a lot of time with Johnny (Manziel) and I had great meetings with him,” O’Brien said. “He is a bright guy and I really enjoyed watching him play in college on film and enjoyed talking with him.”

O’Brien was speaking at St. Thomas to deliver a speech about "How To Build A Winning Team." It appears although O’Brien respects Manziel, Manziel didn’t fit the model of the team he’s trying to build in Houston.

“We have a vision for our football team and we stuck to that vision," O'Brien. "Every decision we made in the draft we felt led to that vision and we’ll see if that vision turns out the way we believe it will in whatever, a year, two years, three years. It was what we believed in and we stuck with it and we stayed disciplined in the draft and Johnny’s in a great situation in Cleveland.”

Greg Doyle agrees with Mr teX in this prophecy. The question isn't IF. It's only a matter of WHEN.

The kid is already a divisive locker room cancer and is rapidly spinning more and more out of control. JFF is going to crash and burn and it's looking to be sooner rather than later.

Can't wait to see the excuses coming from the Manzielots. We all know it's coming.

And they actually wanted him drafted by the Texans. Can't wait to see this trash on the curb though I do hope he lives through it. At this rate I'm not sure what the odds of that are. The kid needs help and has for quite some time but the enablers keep enabling.

What if he comes out and revolutionizes the position?

Not gonna happen most likely, but if he does real good, it will send a message to the kids coming up that all they need to do is perform on the field and what they do off the field doesn't matter. I think that is where society is heading anyway. Go win and make us money and you can be as much of a d-bag as you want ...
 
Regardless if he fails or succeeds in the NFL, it will be spectacular entertainment either way. :popcorn:

The position was "revolutionized" athletically years ago with Randall Cunningham....& then Vick after him..now Kaep & Wilson.

As far as from a social standpoint, Joe Namath, Kenny Stabler and Jim McMahon all have done what you're suggesting Manziel will be a revolutionary for. With the exception of McMahon, the difference with those other guys is that 1 guy was under the constant scrutiny of NY press and he couldn't get away from it even if he wanted to....the other played for an organization famous for drawing negative attention to themselves plus they had other characters on their team much more interesting....they practically thrived on negativity. Furthermore, those guys didn't seek to bring attention solely onto themselves like Manziel does.

Yeah, social media has given us more access to these guys than ever before & that's a big part of it, but you've at least got to acknowledge that Manziel has played a huge role in creating his circus....and i mean moreso than him "just being Johnny". That's all good when you're winning, but as Cam Newton found out his 2nd year in the league, the media, fans and even your teammates will rip you apart when things aren't going well and you're out there like that. And when you consider the franchise he's going to recent history of losing in spectacular fashion........

I get the vibe from his public personae that he thinks his 'brand' is bigger than the league.

His 'brand' is going to be worthless if he's a bust.

He seems to have a belief that the laws of nature do not apply to him, but maybe that's just the cultivated image and he's really a very dedicated student of the game.
 
I wonder what a "toned down" version of JFF looks like. :)

The Cleveland Browns used last month's draft to grab their quarterback of tomorrow in Johnny Manziel. The team hopes to keep his competition around for the long haul, too.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that the Browns are trying to sign Brian Hoyer to a contract extension. The 28-year-old journeyman started just three games for the team last season but has impressed Mike Pettine and Cleveland's new coaching staff during his return from the torn ACL he suffered last October.

Hoyer is slated to earn $1 million this year in the final season of the two-year pact he signed in May 2013.

The knee injury and Hoyer's limited front-line experience as an NFL starter will keep his asking price down, but he's a solid bet to net a decent backup deal packed with incentives should he wind up starting for the Browns beyond this season.

Keeping Johnny Manziel on the bench won't be easy, but Hoyer will enter camp as the team's starter after his "far superior" play during OTAs and this month's minicamp.

Hoyer will find himself paid sometime soon. Some QB hungry team will take him off Cleveland's hands.

On the other hand I agree with everyone who says Manziel needs to sit a year and learn the NFL game. Coming out of Kevin Sumlin's system he is NOT prepared for the stuff he will face week 1.

I have not been for or against Manziel, but rather I'm just a football fan amused (and occasionally annoyed) by the over-hype for an unproven player and the obsession by media over every little thing he does.

But, that said, finding out he hangs out with Justin Bieber automatically causes involuntary dislike and now I look forward to watching him crash and burn.

Sorry, Johnny, but second hand hate happens in life. :cutthroat:

Most likely he was hanging out with Floyd Mayweather and the party just happened to be at Bieber's place.
Not that I like Mayweather either or anything... Manziel is hurting his image right now though. We'll see what happens when the season begins. We're either looking at the next Broadway Joe or the biggest flame-out seen in a long time.
