The Johnny "Football" Manziel NFL thread

It's nice one of the girls brought their kid brother along..... oh wait, thats JFF.

Seriously, Manziel looks like the frat boy who convinced the football players to come with the promise of chicks.

Oops, forgot to repeat the pic.

[IMGwidthsize=450]http://sports.cbsimg.net/images/blogs/Gronkowski-Manziel-Vegas.final.jpg[/IMG]

Typical JFF. Didnt he just get done telling John Gruden and NFL teams that he "just didnt say no enough."

Gets drafted and is back to his normal routine. Oh here is a good JFF quote defending his Vegas trip.

“I don’t live my life according to you guys or according to what other people think of me,” he said Wednesday, via Cleveland.com. “I’m going to live my life to the fullest and continue to be committed to this game, committed to what I need to be doing here and trying to earn my place in this locker room with these coaches, with this organization.”

So QBs can't go to Vegas in the off season?

Sure they can. I'd be willing to be that any number of superstar QBs have gone to Vegas. Hell, Tom Brady lived a soap opera for a while with that whole Giselle/Bridget thing. Somehow though, they never pulled the focus from football. They kept their mouths shut, went to work, and were successful. Like I said upthread, the media is going to hound Manziel. He has the power to make it worse or make it go away. It's all up to him. So far, it looks like he wants to make it worse.

[gratuitous picture repeat]

I've got to hand it to the kid. Definitely not a sausage party. He's already got VY beat on the party pics.

Is johnny smaller or bigger then Case keenum in terms of height or weight ..????

anyways it will be fun to watch him and think what could of been like a alternate history if he was a Houston Texan

and that game @ CLE will be a hard game this year heck they will all be hard but that will be a fun game to watch

im just gonna make a hunch and say after 4 years and his rookie contract his up Johnny will be playing for some other team maybe Dallas ... maybe a NFC team who knows

So... the Browns won't be picking up that 5th year option?

Johnny is going to be the Kid Rock of the NFL. I don't see that working out well for his play on the field.

See I don't understand the big deal here. Am I to understand that Manziel is suppose to have his face in the playbook 24/7 and not have a little bit of fun?

I mean come'on man it's the freaking Cleveland Brown playbook, how freaking hard can it be to understand those plays, with Kyle Shannahan at OC no less. Manziel could spend an hour learning how to...

hand off to the left side to Tate...

hand off to the right side to Tate...

Roll out right to hit the TE coming across the middle for a 5 yard gain...

not rocket science people. Let that boy get his freak on...

So QBs can't go to Vegas in the off season?

All QBs? No. But maybe not the ones who are trying to prove that they care more about being a great QB than being known as friends with LeBron and Drake.

Or maybe not the ones who have yet to prove they can make it in the NFL.

And im not sure the weekend before OTA's is the best time to go to Vegas. Maybe, I dont know... prepare for OTAs? Vegas can wait.

JFF is a "grew up rich" attention-seeking, brand-growing, media savvy, TMZ star and party animal. Everybody knew this. I don't see what's surprising.

He'll be getting paid $50,000 just to spend a few hours at a Vegas hotspot dance club that Clowney would have to pay cover charge to get in. It's JFF world, coming soon to reality TV.

So QBs can't go to Vegas in the off season?

Not sure if you noticed, but Johnny Manziel is not like other rookie QBs.

Dude is Johnny Freakin' Football, man!

Only person in the history OF THE WORLD to win a Heisman as a freshman. And he also...uhhh....did other stuff.

Dude created a brand and was heavily marketing it before he was even in the NFL, much less played a single down...or proven anything at all.

He's the media's new little darling to fill the void left by Tim Tebow, which filled the voide left by Favre, which was created in a slow news year, I guess.

Manziel is setting standards, man. Standards for over-hype, standards for narcissistic branding based on potential, standards for wrecking this league.

Get your popcorn ready!

The humbling of Johnny Football continues.

From telling him he’s a backup to reminding him he’s not in Hollywood to putting him at No. 3 on the depth chart for OTAs, the Browns have been trying to ensure that Johnny Manziel doesn’t realize that from the moment he was drafted he instantly became the most powerful man in Cleveland. G.M. Ray Farmer took it to a new level on Tuesday, explaining that, as of right now, the gap between Brian Hoyer and Manziel isn’t close.

Via Dustin Fox of 92.3 The Fan, Farmer said on Bull & Fox that Hoyer is the better quarterback “by a substantial margin.”

Maybe wait till next year. When one of the reasons you slid in the draft is people questioning your commitment you may want to wait to go to Vegas and party. Not a big deal, but also something he could have thought out a little better.

...Hoyer is the better quarterback “by a substantial margin.”

Why is the GM putting isht like that out publicly? Only your HC talks about depth, and the good ones never characterize the gap in such a negative way unless he's trying to motivate a guy who has been around for a while who just won't put in the work.

Farmer should zip it. JFF just walked in the door.

Hoyer starting this year could be the best thing possible for Manziel's career. His haters will probably laugh it up, but a redshirt year for him might do wonders.

I think a redshirt year would most likely be good for any given rookie QB entering the NFL.

The problem they will have in Cleveland is the fan demands if/when Hoyer makes mistakes or the offense doesn't perform well. The stadium chanting a backup QBs name is not good for the mental state of the starting QB (not to mention the pressure from local media and talk radio, then add the daily Manziel Report on NFL Network).

And it is only a matter of time before it happens.

I'd be surprised if he lasts a year on the bench, but I wouldn't bet on it. I see him starting in the game against the Texans.

He's a f'ing rookie, he's undersized, and the odds are stacked against him. He should be humble sit the )(*@$ down and learn the playbook. Going to vegas can you honestly tell me he was seriously studying. It's all about perception as a QB, you are likely the leader for that team, you set examples with your work ethic and committment..

ACT like it... but that's not his style, if he's not sucessful he's toast..

I'm one of the biggest JFF critics on this site...but even i'm  at this.

who cares what this dude is doing during his off time if it doesn't involve football.

I'm probably your polar opposite on Manziels' potential, and while I have a bit of the "it's his personal time" mentality, this is his time to be doubling-down on getting ready for his Pro debut. It's not that I don't think he's smart enough to pick up the Browns dynamic offensive playbook (pun intended), just that celebration might be in order AFTER this season, not so much before it.

If this is to keep his "brand" fresh, then he's acing that exam.

i'm just to the point i'm tired of hearing about this kid. Too much is being made of this; His success or failure won't be because he did/didn't know the playbook well.

I'm not getting the analogy. Kid Rock is tremendously successful doing things his own way.

Yeah and kid rock is unselfish also, he charges 20$ per person at his concerts that is dirt cheap. Also drinks and shirts are dirt cheap. He says the entertainment industry has gotten out of control charging hard working people that much to watch someone sing. He losses 100s of thousands hell millions doing that but he says he don't care.

So him and JF are nothing alike anyways ;) just saying.

Someone might try reminding him of that.:mcnugget:

This is where I think all the extra curricular stuff may hurt him. If he's on the sideline... not playing, is he going to show the same dedication to his craft as if he were playing?

I feel pretty good about him keeping his focus on football if he's playing, not so much, if he's watching.

Shanahan: Manziel 'very similar' to RG3
"Johnny and Robert [Griffin, III] are very similar," Shanahan told USA TODAY Sports. "They're both talented guys who can make plays with their legs. But there comes a time in the NFL when they're going to keep you in the pocket, and you're going to have to have that ability to make the throws with your arm and mind. And Johnny, just like Robert, has that arm talent and intelligence to do that."

"Perception becomes everyone's reality, but Johnny has been here working his tail off day and night, doing everything we ask," Shanahan said. "He's really attacked it every day, done a good job even as each week gets harder as we throw a lot more at him. I've been very impressed."

I wonder how Broadway Joe would be taken today ?

How can you not draw a smile at that Super Bowl guarantee coming true again; at wearing panty hose for Beauty Mist; at being in a movie love scene with Ann-Margret that was scripted by her husband; and at hearing again his younger self declaring that it would be un-American not to “go around and have a drink with a lady now and then”?

Individually this incident is meaningless. It becomes significant in the ongoing saga of a guy who claimed he was shedding the JF persona and concentrating on football. To do that you do more than what is average for other QBs. Instead his claims appear disingenuous.

Manziel's a huge victim by the media and stupid fans that aren't mentally equipped to understand the powers of the media and how easily they tarnish an athlete's reputation by the non stop coverage and questioning of every movement he makes. Other superstars don't get what some guys get. No one gets what Manziel gets. A rookie player who visits Vegas in the off season is never news. It never should be. But the media makes it news any way, and people suck themselves right into the drama that is nothing. I'm tired of this pathetic argument that guys should have to know better and do things they shouldn't have to do all because they have this extra spotlight and all because they have more attention on them than all of the other players. At some point the fans and the viewers need to rub some brain cells together and realize that they're just being played by the media into a ratings frenzy of non-stories that are exacerbated by the media to get opinions out of people. It waters down the sports coverage and creates this soap opera lunacy that most of us what to escape when we follow sports coverage.

I hate to come across as being dense or maybe just behind the times, but shut down what exactly? I see JFF sitting on what appears to be a media backdrop stage with a couple of rookie Bucs and a Lion guy. What the hell got "shut down"?

Throughout the draft process Manziel had a cadre of "handlers" who followed him everywhere he went and denied/approved/quickly ended interviews and curbed Manziel when/if he strayed into territory that might somehow negatively affect the JFF brand.

Evidently he still employs those handlers. As to what they nixed, who knows... kids will be kids. There were video & still cameras and mics everywhere at the Rookie Uniform Modeling Symposium.

How is Manziel in any way a "victim" when he perpetuates the media hype and feeds the monster every chance he gets?

He's the dude that branded his image before he was even drafted. He's the dude with professional handlers surrounding him so they can ensure that brand is exactly what they want to present. He's the one trademarking the brand and selling it.

As far as the media, it is what it is. We live in a 24 hour news cycle world now. Professional athletes use it to sell their brand, but then wonder why that same industry puts them on pedestals? Tiger Woods is a classic example of spinning an image, selling it, and then tarnishing his reputation because he could not live up to the fantasy image that he had been selling.

If Manziel doesn't want the scrutiny and coverage, he can do things to avoid it. But that has never been his M.O. or intentions, so he will live and die by the media frenzy that he has been a big part of creating and feeding for years.

A rookie going to Vegas is no big deal. But Manziel makes sure it's a big deal because it is a small part of his big picture plans. I think calling him a victim is the exact opposite of the reality that he created.

Which I think is odd... to me, JFF was that guy making amazing plays on the field.

Do you realize that you're on the internet? Where you can do things like look things up if you have a question?

One of them is 6', 210# and one of them is 6' 1", 205#. Guess which is which. (BTW, you don't have to guess. You can look this crap up.)

EDIT: Added weights but also, profootball reference had a different number on one of the guys.

How similar are Arian & Blue in physical stature? I heard they were similar. It would be nice if you could provide pictures.

Thanks so much.
