The Actual And Real 2016 Texans' Talk Mock Draft Extravaganza

I’ve got Mario Williams, Cameron Wake, Ndamukong Suh, Earl Mitchell, Dion Jordan coming back… With the 13th overall pick in the 2016 draft, the Miami Dolphins take Shaq Lawson. He’s got power to bull rush, speed to run past you, & he can even shake & bake it a bit.

Make no mistake, we’re coming for your QB.

With the 14th pick in the draft the Oakland Raiders select LB Reggie Ragland from the University of Alabama. Reggie Mckenzie is trying to build a solid defense to compliment and help out his young offense. I believe every good defense has to have a stud at ILB. Ragland is one of the most instinctive LBs in this draft, and is a true thumper in the run game. He might not have the measurables some will want, and some will say that will make him a liability in coverage, but in back to back weeks he held Evan Engram pretty good TE from Ole Miss, and Hunter Henry the top TE in the draft to one catch each. Instincts win out over 40 times for LBs.

With the 15th Pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select WR Laquon Treadwell from Ole Miss.

th

The Best Player Available and it happens to be an area of need.

It's a no brainer.

With the 16th Pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select OT Taylor Decker from THE Ohio State University.

I had a couple of different directions that I considered with this pick, but Decker represents a player I can plug in and have him start from Day 1. He might not have the upside of a Spriggs, but he's probably got a higher floor.

This guy is sorely under-rated around here. Team leader who always plays hard and physical. Instant starter at RT for the next 10-12 years.

Actually, we're all the way to the Falcons and T'Kyss on the Clock.

Should Texans select him if he slides they're way?
depends on who still available. We could do a lot worse. Hes not flashy but he has talent. It would be great to see him lined up next to Allen. They are very similar in that they both play with a nasty edge and are physical and excel in run blocking.

Funny because in my first 2016 mock draft I penciled him in for the Texans :ahhaha:

@thunderkyss ? You're on the clock!

Alright.. alright already.

I really wanted Reggie Ragland. The Falcon fans see ILB as a major weakness. Worrilow seems a bit shy of contact. Not very good for an ILB. But Reggie's gone. So... to help Worrilow avoid contact, with the 17th pick in the 2016 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons select Sheldon Rankins, DT Louisville.

With the 18th Pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Jason Spriggs, OT, Indiana.

I was really conflicted on this pick. I've seen him mocked this high, but I've got him ranked a bit lower than this. If I was going strictly by my board, I'd pick Darron Lee, Eli Apple, or Mackensie Alexander. But the whole Colts line is in such a shambles, that I can't wait to address this position.

Takes him off a lot of Texan hopefuls :barman:

With the 19th pick the Buffalo Bills select: Vernon Butler - DL, Louisiana Tech

Buffalo is revamping and reorganizing their DL to fit Rex Ryan's defense. Butler is a raw athlete at this point but he has the potential to be a very valuable player in this system. Ryan runs more nickel than any other defense in the league, and one of the key pieces to that is the weak side DT. We need a guy that can two gap the weak side B and C gaps in our base defense but also slide down to NT in four man fronts and rush the passer from the interior. That's a difficult skill set to find and sometimes you have to take a shot on a guy that you believe has all the right skills, but just needs a little bit of time to put it all together.

Luckily, we have enough depth for now that we can work Butler into the rotation slowly. Over time, we hope that Butler can be Buffalo's version of Muhammad Wilkerson, who played this position for Rex in New York.

This makes me happy in more than one way.

Wow, this is moving along. Didn't think we'd get to the Skins today, so I didn't commit the list to memory. Give me until about 7 to get home and look it over. Maybe Blake will have got in by then.

It was a real thought decision for me between Ragland and rankins. Just went with the position I feel has a steeper drop off in talent later and impacts the Defense more

Yeah... I didn't feel comfortable taking any other LB at my spot. With Sheldon up front, maybe Worrilow can put that extra second he likes to take to good use.

I like Butler far more than the mock games do. He doesn't score well, but I think he's a player we could use.

Not a fan of Spriggs before the second round. 1. This keeps the texans from drafting him. 2. Watt will break the single game sack record going against this guy.

Over the last 2 seasons Spriggs allowed 4 sacks over 788 pass attempts (i.e. 1 sack allowed every 197 pass attempts).

Of Butler was on the board at 22 I couldn't think of a reason to get mad at the texans for taking him. High motor big man who could be a staple on our line for years to come

I agree. He's not a five tool player, so don't ask him to be. But use the outstanding skills he has. PLUG THE MIDDLE. Occupy two blockers. Free up the linebackers and keep the QBs in the sites of Watt and whoever the other DE turns out to be. I'd still like to see Crick return, but that's me.

What tool do you think he's lacking for a dt?

I'd like A'Shawn Robinson or Andrew Billings if available, but they might not be there.

Lateral movement and speed to the outside. It's a nice tool to have, but good linebacker play should cover his shortfall in the least needed tools at the position.

Where are you looking to play him? Speed to the outside?

Don't know that speed to the outside is something I'm gauging an interior lineman on, but ok. Do have to disagree about lateral movement. Butler can plant and take an angle pretty quickly for a guy his size. Part of the reason he's good at pursuit. Then taking into account his very good hand game and you got a guy who can disrupt the pocket frequently from the inside. Pretty well rounded DT, imo.

I want him in the interior, so outside containment becomes someone elses responsibility. I'm thinking of when we face those zone blocking schemes and the whole line is moving and the defense has to match up.

:ok:

Back to the draft. What time does it end for the night? I'm an early to bed, absurdly early to rise kind of guy.

How's he look on stunts & twists?

After 7PM, you don't HAVE to make your picks, but you can. If your pick is coming up, create a sequential list of preferred draft targets and send them to someone who may be awake while you're asleep.

I'm 7 hours ahead of you guys (it's almost 3am here right now), and I'll be hitting the sack soon, but I'm not going to PM my picks because it's going to be a while before my teams are back up. And at this point, I'm not sure who we're supposed to be PMing our picks to.
