Texans vs Vikings Game Aug 9 Preseason 1

SHHHHHHH.... maybe we can get 3 firsts for him....... this one we can advertise as "Not a massage enthusiast"

We could get a 3rd for him, but I'd just as soon keep him on the team if possible. Reliable and fairly decent backup QBs are a must in the NFL. I doubt anyone would give up a 2nd for him, which is what he came to us as. It'll be interesting when his contract year comes up. Which should be soon. Anyone know anything about that?

I did. I just think that it is just as possible that he is not recovered fully from the concussion and/or it could have been worse than thought as I said.
I am not saying that his 2021 injury is not having residuals or getting worse, there just seem to be nothing noted in the 3 football seasons since then.
I am hoping for the concussion option as I think that could be the better of the two.

Nick listens to the doctors/ scouts/coaches and drafts accordingly.
They got it right with Sting, which seemed super high risk, but just missed on Josh Simmons & KC got steal of the draft. So Nick could investigate what Texans medical team overlooked but probably just chalk it up to odds and move on. Washington is very happy with Conerly Jr. & Tunsil looks healthy, retooling OL in one off-season!

Hopefully Simmons patellar holds up to the rigors of an NFL season for a yr or many yrs to come. Most teams weren't willing to take that kind of gamble on Simmons.

Tell me this, would you rather Caserio drafted like he did

Higgins, Ersery, Noel, Marks, Smith

or

Simmons/Ersery/whatever RB you like/ Horton

He was the 2nd pick of the 3rd rd. Caserio picked Mills over Meinertz. although I disagreed with the pick I understood the pick. Caserio/Pep/McDaniels redeemed themselves by trading up for Nico.

Conerly JR. / TreVeon Henderson.

I wanted nothing to do woth Simmons and Conerly. I liked Ersery better than both. I am on the record that Conerly is a 3rd rounder. He may pan out, but too much Tunsil in that cat to take the rosk imho. We need some junkyard dogs, not lazy puddy cats stoned on catnip.

Now watching Seth Payne on YouTube focusing on the offensive line:
On first series, pain said that Scruggs looked close to having a very good game. Interesting.
On 1st drive, Fisher allowed his opponent to eventually get around him hitting Mills in the back after the pass. Ogunbuwale should have helped out but did not even look at the defender rushing in but flared out to the right. My opinion.

Second down in 3 yd Fisher just gets beat. Third down and three, Mills takes almost all the time to start the play and Fisher jumped off sides.
Other Payne comments:

" Half backs were picking up blitzes."
Linebackers are stacked without Harris.
WR looks like a bad dude with powerful legs that can break tackles. They will find ways to get him on the field."

I only watched part of the 3rd and 4th quarters. Nothing stood out to me but I wasn’t looking for anyone in particular. Who should I be watching for?

Oh, I did see Metchie drop a pass. Is he going to make the squad?

Has Simmons played a down yet?

The numbers game is stacked against Metchie. The Texans brought in 5 WRs (Kirk, Higgins, Noel, Watson, Berrios). Metchie doesn't offer value on special teams. He doesn't really have a path to a roster spot. 40 career receptions combined with his medical history doesn't indicate trade value. Probably best for Metchie to be released and try to catch on with another team.

That's why I put him as a loser/stock down guy on Saturday even with the catches and production he had. He just doesn't have much "juice" at WR. And he had to catch that one he missed. Granted...it was a very difficult, albeit, not impossible catch. But in his spot...it's one you have to grab.

And any chance he had I think ended with the performance of Berrios. We knew he had the skill for PR/KR, but I saw a guy that was fast, physical, and had some real juice as a WR. I think he's 5th on the DC now as a WR, and first on the DC as returner.

And Hutch has had a good overall camp and has taken another small leap (as per reports), so I have him as #6 and a ST contributor. So, where does the guy fit since both Berrios and Hutch are ST aces? I don't see it, barring injury. Knock on wood.

Given his college career, his draft slot, and and the fact that he still has some upside, I could see a conditional 7th, or a pick swap. Give us your 5th, and we'll give you our 6th. Good luck to him. Great person, but never ever liked the pick from jump. Time to wish him well, and let him find a spot elsewhere.

With Metchie’s sudden uptick in production, albeit Pre Season GM1, Metchie may not have to be kicked to the curb for nothing.

Saints are in a big WR room hurt locker. Caserio should check with the Saints GM about their RD6 pick for Metchie. If that doesn’t move the needle, at least offer Metchie and a RD7 pick for the Saints RD6….that could probably get a deal done.

We have a couple of pre-season games to accesses whether or not Metchie is worth keeping. I remember Nico's early days, he never looked like a viable option at receiver. Strong camps followed by lack of production seasons. And then one day he blossomed. I see things in Metchie's game this season (albeit it pre-season and training camp) that show he may be on the rise, but I'd give the man one more season to let things play out.

Played 11 snaps in pre-season opener with Mahomes and was excellent.
Healthy Simmons is your prototypical LT. Very smooth, athletic and few weaknesses, KC got super lucky. Conerly is turning into a very good blocking, gets to 2nd level RT. Still issue with his core strength but excellent technician. Ersery is raw, but that frame and attitude will carry him until gets his feet under him. Actually turned out to be one hell of a tackle class.
