NFL Random Thought of the Day

Eagles Pro Bowl left guard Landon Dickerson's MRI reveals a significant meniscus tear. Return this season depends on if the tear is repairable or not. A trim will allow him back in 6-8 weeks...........a repair, 4-6 months. His knees are already so messed up, I hope a repair can be done.

Matthew Stafford still isn’t practicing, but he is spending time in a rejuvenation chamber

The wait, and the apparent discomfort, continues.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was scheduled to practice for the first time on Monday, but the back issue that has sidelined him since the start of training camp prevented him from doing so.

“We’re going to be smart,” coach Sean McVay said, “but he didn’t feel good enough. And we didn’t think it was the right thing to do based on how he woke up feeling.”

Stafford, 37, is dealing with an aggrav
“Came in [Monday] and it doesn’t feel great,” McVay said, “and so didn’t feel like it was the right decision to be able to push him.”

Stafford spent much of practice in a new restorative and rejuvenation chamber in a trailer next to the practice field. McVay said the chamber was not installed exclusively for Stafford.

Since we are headed to the west cost to open the season against Stafford and the Rams this seemed relevant.

Nevada Supreme Court blocks arbitration of Jon Gruden’s case against NFL, Roger Goodell
Published August 11, 2025 05:30 PM

Jon Gruden made a Hail Mary pass in the Nevada Supreme Court. And it went for a touchdown.

In November 2021, Gruden sued the league and Commissioner Roger Goodell for leaking to multiple media outlets emails from the supposedly confidential investigation into the Washington franchise. Gruden contends that the leaks were calculated to force his ouster. And indeed they did.

He initially won before the trial court. After having the Nevada Supreme Court rule that his civil lawsuit must be resolved through arbitration, Gruden filed a motion for rehearing before the full court. First, they granted the request. Now, they have ruled in his favor.

In a 5-2 ruling, the Nevada Supreme Court has found that the arbitration clause contained in the NFL’s Constitution and Bylaws “is unconscionable and does not apply to Gruden as a former employee.”

The league primarily relied on the broad language of its constitution regarding the Commissioner’s power to have “full, complete, and final jurisdiction and authority to arbitrate . . . [a]ny dispute . . . that in the opinion of the Commissioner constitutes conduct detrimental to the best interests of the League or professional football.”

In an eight-page decision, the Nevada Supreme Court found that the provision is unconcsionable because it “would allow Goodell, as Commissioner, to arbitrate disputes about his own conduct — exactly what is at issue here.” The Nevada Supreme Court then declared that the ability of Goodell to delegate the actual arbitration to another party does not matter.

The court further explained that the league’s power to alter its constitution whenever it wants makes the arbitration clause unconscionable.

Sepearately, the court refused to prevent Gruden from suing the league in court due to the presence of an arbitration clause in his contract with the Raiders.

The NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Undoubtedly, the league will attempt to appeal the outcome to the United States Supreme Court; that’s what the league did when the Missouri Supreme Court found that the lawsuit regarding the relocation of the Rams could not be forced into arbitration.

If that happens, the case will continue to linger. The first question will be whether the Supreme Court will take up the case. If it does, the question becomes whether the league will disagree with the Nevada Supreme Court, forcing Gruden to arbitrate his claims.

As it relates to the quest for the truth, it’s important that the case be litigated in court. That’s how everyone will find out how and why someone weaponized the Washington emails against Gruden. And why, more importantly, the attack happened during the regular season — thereby undermining the integrity of the entire campaign, as to all 32 teams.

If the case is arbitrated, we may never know who ordered the proverbial Code Red against Gruden.

49ers fourth-round WR pick Jordan Watkins has a high-ankle sprain. Watkins is expected to miss about a month as a result of the injury. (realistically probably more). With Brandon Aiyuk not probably to be cleared for last year's ACL until Oct, it makes a dent in the 49ers plans.

Jon Gruden’s lawyers: Ruling paves way for “holding the NFL accountable”
Published August 11, 2025 07:51 PM

The NFL has not provided a comment in response to the finding by the Nevada Supreme Court that the arbitration clause in the NFL’s Constitution and Bylaws is “unconscionable” — and thus unenforceable — as to former Raiders coach Jon Gruden.

Gruden’s lawyers have issued a statement to PFT.

“We’re very pleased with the Nevada Supreme Court’s decision, not just for Coach Gruden but for all employees facing an employer’s unfair arbitration process,” said Adam Hosmer-Henner of McDonald Carano LLP, the firm representing Gruden.

“This victory further vindicates Coach Gruden’s reputation, and it clears the way to swiftly bringing him full justice and holding the NFL accountable.”

It’s likely if not inevitable that the NFL will file a petition for appeal to the United States Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court doesn’t take the case (or if it does and the NFL loses), it will be time for the case to proceed to discovery. And that’s when the NFL may throw money at Gruden in an effort to settle his claim that the league and Commissioner Roger Goodell leaked emails he had sent while working for ESPN to multiple media outlets.

Here’s the most important question: Will he reject any offer the league makes? A July 2023 ESPN.com article about the leaked emails that forced Gruden to resign asserted that Gruden hopes “to burn the house down.”

That can happen only if he first proves who, from a fairly tight circles of people who had access to the supposedly secret emails from the Washington investigation, leaked some to the Wall Street Journal for publication on a Friday and then, when that didn’t do the trick, leaked more to the New York Times on a Monday. At that point, things could get very interesting.

On Saturday, Myles Garrett was cited for driving 100 in a 60 mph zone
Published August 11, 2025 07:32 PM

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was cited on Saturday morning for driving 100 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone.

Via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, it was Garrett’s eighth citation for speeding since arriving in Cleveland as the first pick in the 2017 draft.

Three years ago, Garrett flipped a Porsche 911 three times while speeding and swerving to avoid an animal.
Said Garrett after the 2022 accident: “This will be definitely a wake-up call for me, just try to be smart overall with driving.

Don’t take anything for granted. Be grateful that I’m still able to be here and just take my time.”

Garrett received a $250 ticket for the latest incident, which he can pay without appearing in court. As Cabot notes, Garrett presumably was driving home after the team returned from a preseason game in Carolina in Friday night.

Earlier this year, Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders was cited twice in quick succession for speeding. It prompted G.M. Andrew Berry to explain that the team wants to avoid such incidents “because we don’t want some type of catastrophic accident.”

After leaving New Orleans' preseason game on just the second offensive play with a foot injury, the Saints center Will Clapp will apparently need surgery and be out for the season, The Saints are awaiting confirmation, but from what I gather, he has suffered a Lisfranc injury.

No mention of Green's Oct 2024 shoulder injury which resulted in him being placed on IR missing 6 games...............or that he missed the entire 2023 season with a torn shoulder labrum that required surgery. With the Eagle injury situation, it just may save Green's job for a while.

Eagles guard Kenyon Green likely out for rest of preseason with shoulder injury
By Michael David Smith
Published August 12, 2025 07:08 AM

The injuries to the Eagles’ guards are adding up.

Philadelphia guard Kenyon Green has a shoulder injury that is likely to end his preseason, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Green is viewed as week to week.

The Eagles are also currently without guard Landon Dickerson, who had surgery to repair a torn meniscus and also is out for the preseason and week to week.

A first-round draft pick of the Texans in 2022, Green has not lived up to his pre-draft expectations but was hoping to get a fresh start with the Eagles, who acquired him in the trade that sent C.J. Gardner-Johnson to Houston. Now the Eagles will hope Green can get healthy and return to the field for the regular season.

Documentary on the ‘90s Cowboys will shine brighter light on 30 years of failure
Published August 12, 2025 10:10 AM

Officially, it’s called America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys. Unofficially, it’s The Jerry Show.

Technically, the upcoming Netflix series focuses on the glory (hole) days that have long passed Jerry Jones by.

Personally, I can’t wait to watch the eight-part documentary. But after watching the trailer, it’s obvious that it focuses on the team that won three Super Bowls between 1992 and 1995.

Which only shines a brighter light on the chronic failures of America’s Team in the 30 years since the last title.

Really, how can Cowboys fans not watch the documentary without getting pissed that Jones has been unable to recapture the magic in three full decades? For the first 30 Super Bowls, the Cowboys played in the game to get there SIXTEEN times. In the 29 Super Bowls since then: Zero.

It’s an inescapable comparison. It’s a bald guy showing off a picture of what he looked like 30 years ago, when he had hair. The photo looks great, but the current reality tells a much different story.

The Cowboys hope that, for at least a little while, a trip down memory lane will be the bright, shiny object that makes the fans forget that it may be damn near impossible to make America’s Team great again.
