Texans vs Vikings AAR

Could not disagree more with this. If your model is a lazy don't give a damn stoner, who throws his teammates under the bus, isn't a leader, isn't physical, has a bad attitude, is selfish, can't count, can't run block for ****, and who lives off of the fact that he has naturally good feed and athleticism - he's your guy. As for me - I'd give him an apple and a roadmap and a one-way ticket on a bus to Splittsville.

His act was wearing thin on me three years ago....now we have irreconcilable differences that are permanent. If I was lucky enough to be in the GM seat, the only thing we're fighting over now is compensation from the team I'm trading him to, or I'd just cut him outright to make a statement to his teammates that his kind of bullshit will not be tolerated. This team needs dawgs not one-trick show ponies looking for their their next phat paycheck.
Well.......his teammates did vote him 1 of the captains of the team........ so you know there's that. So, how do you think your "statement" to them would fall? Someone tone deaf to his team perhaps? & yeah, still don't know where you're getting "lazy, don't give a damn" attitude from but to each their own.

Geron Christian didn't draw many false start penalties.....that was b/c he was too damn slow getting out of his stance....That kinda happens.................... when you suck.

If you were GM, You would've gotten CJ broken in half by now....Bottom line is pro bowl LT's still in their prime don't just fall out of trees..We have 1. I'm sure Tua, Caleb and probably even Mahomes wish that they had 1 of Tunsil's caliber instead of trotting out the trash they have every week.

Tunsil either needs to get his sh!t together or they need to start someone else. Tunsil has really got me pissed after this game. As to the team losing, meh. So what, they lost a game. I don't think anyone really expected them to win more than 10 to 12 games this season anyway.

However, if Tunsil doesn't get his problem fixed, we won't be making that 10 to 12 games until we get a ******* LT that doesn't false start all the goddamned time.

I didn't expect us to go undefeated. Hell, I suspected we might lose a game badly. Yesterday's loss however was more than just losing badly. We looked uncomfortable and undisciplined all game long. We helped the Vikings beat us.

Aside from the free releases given to Jefferson, I felt like the defense had a streak of good play. The offense and O Line is my biggest concern. That many procedural penalties is inexcusable.

So, your theory is it's either put up with the bullshit artist known as Tunsil, or end up with a terrible LT with two left feet and one arm? Because it seems to me there is a middle ground. A solid dude that balls out, has a great attitude and gives max effort instead of some lazy stoner with a who cares attitude to match and who apparently cannot count.

Some teams don't put up with bullshit. The Chiefs benched their rookie LT Kingsley Suamatiai (SP?) in favor of Wanya Morris against Atlanta - drafted in the 3rd round last year, and they won the game and Pat was fine.
How did I know this post was coming?

A lot of players had bad games yesterday, not just Tunsil. But hey, it's all Tunsil's fault the ol looked terrible.

I remember after game one posters were talking about how good the ol looked.

It certainly isn't all Tunsils fault. However, as the highest paid primadonna on the OLine (actually highest paid player on the team), he certainly earned a lot of criticism for his horrid play. Unfortunately, you are right- literally every member of the OLine played poorly. Tunsil's lack of accountability, as a leader, certainly doesn't help the OLine improve. That dude is all about the money. So, my anger is reserved for him. Howard has been worse this season. I think the coaching staff should have already replaced Howard. However, I don't have anger towards Howard, who is simply physically incapable of doing his job due to his recent injury history.

Where do you get all of this negative stuff from?

Stoner? Because he had a video before he was drafted? I don't believe he's gotten into any trouble.

Lazy, I haven't seen this

Throws teammates under the bus?

Has a bad attitude? I haven't seen this.

Selfish?

Needs to improve run blocking, yes he does, although I don't think you were complaining about his run blocking after the Colts game. Stopping the false starts or limiting them to 1-2 per game? Yep.

I don't know where you come up with this stuff, but since you've wanted him gone for three yrs this post doesn't surprise me. It's like you were wanting for Tunsil to have a bad game so you could make this post.

There are only 4-5 teams that wouldn't love to have Tunsil right now. Including all three within the division and the Dolphins who traded him would love to have him back, false starts and all.

I can't speak to all of this. However, after the game, Tunsil took zero responsibility for his poor play. He actually accused the officials of being out to get him. So, yeah: selfish, bad attitude.

What makes you think he's a primadona? He's he's well paid, top 5 LT money, because he's a top 5 LT. True he plays for the money, a lot of guys do. Look at the Trent Williams multiple holdouts as an example. That guy plays for the money and you don't hear 49er fans complaining about him.

He's not a leader but false starts aside he's a top 5 LT. As far as Howard goes he's always been overrated.

This has to do with how he lines up, he lined up the same way the first two games without issues and yes,he still had a couple of false starts. So given this and the fact he didn't think he was doing anything wrong, what would you have liked him to say? I wouldn't call that a bad attitude or being selfish. I would call that being honest.

A top 5 player at his position shouldn’t never get thst many penalties in one freaking game. I’m mean never.
Correct your shift and stop trying to place blame on the refs.

Are you okay with 30 false starts a year? Last year, the most penalized guy in the league had 20 penalties—not just false starts, but penalties.

Any player or coach with an ounce of integrity would, at minimum, say "I have to be better. I need to clean up the mistakes." Five pre-snap penalties is simply outrageous. Also, I will agree with you that he was an elite pass blocker last year. This year: he has been pretty damn poor, even without the penalties. And, his effort in the run game is freakin' pathetic! There is a difference between not being good at something and not giving effort. He sucks in the run game because of a lack of effort.

Tunsil can take a long walk off a short pier. He has been on my **** list for years. Finally (most) of the rest of you have caught up to me. He’s everything I’ve been saying for years and probably even more. He is by far the biggest problem on the 53. I know this sounds crazy, but if I am Nick I seriously consider dumping him for whatever I can get in a trade. It’s addition by subtraction. The guy is literally dragging the entire team down. What a horrible horrible trade this guy was. The fins were laughing at BOB all the way to the bank.

I said this in the ravens playoff thread. Watched the false starts all last season. Had about 3-4 false starts and 2 were on crucial 3rd downs while the game was still close. I gave him praise the week before for shutting down Myles Garrett. This team lacks a true veteran leader like JJ Watt. Tunsil probably intimidates our guys who would call him out. I’m more so worried about Cj seeing that Tunsil is close to him. Can’t have a case of the blind leading the blind. Attitude reflects leadership. Iron sharpens iron.

I’ll say it since no one else will. Larmey Tunsil is overpaid and isn’t a leader. A leader doesn’t get senseless penalties in multiple crucial games. A leader sets the standards. You think Ray Lewis made the same mistakes in consecutive games? Even at home games Tunsil had false starts. I guess we were foolish thinking this team had a real shot. Our real leader is only 22 years old

Lining up your rookie tight end 1st play against the best edge rusher on the Vikings is disrespectful. This offense is definitely under a microscope going forward. The offense shouldn’t struggle 3 weeks in a row with the talent we have
Goes back to how important training camp, minicamp and preseason is to any team on the rise. We’re not the Kansas City Chiefs or New England Patriots. These guys need that time together so they could build up the chemistry and cohesiveness for a great team. The veterans and coaches should understand this known fact. But no sir they attack lex this offseason like they been together for 5 years.

Re-watched every Texans possession via the All-22 and the Vikings just had a better game plan that they executed. There were missed opportunities early that combined with the Vikings aggressiveness doomed us. The worst facet was definitely the OL attempt at run blocking. As a whole, those guys literally didn't look like they knew what they were doing on running plays. They just kind of got in the way of the defender and didn't sustain anything. We all saw the pressure on passing plays so nothing to add from the OL perspective. I am surprised Slowick didn't try to use the Vikings defensive front against them with a middle screen, draw play or moving the pocket on rollouts, etc. His play calling just seemed off but that could a testament to the Flores led Vikings defense.

The defense played better than the score indicates, but they couldn't put a full 60 minutes together. The offense just looks completely out of sync. The one positive is that CJ didn't look bad. He didn't look great, but he didn't look bad.

Think that you have to move on and that you have to learn from the mistakes. Need to have a defense really if you are going to win ball games. But also OL needs to be utilize and bulked up.

Tunsil's salary and respect around the league as an excellent pass blocker might be partially due to him false starting. I've seen over the years Tunsil moving back in pass coverage before the snap numerous times and not get called for it. I think to myself, "boy he got lucky there." Win or lose, Tunsil's false starts grates on my nerves. The guy is thick in the head.

Yeah, it's infuriating. This is how the league is now. Seems like all OL get a head start and sometimes it gets called and other times it doesn't. It's like flopping in basketball or soccer. Become part of the game and it sucks.

…..and that’s exactly the way Tunsil’s performances have looked, like a lack of preparation. I really hope coaches get tired of giving veterans lax camps…..players have to commit, as a team, to being better each and every season. It doesn’t just land in your lap nor are they so good they need only to flip the switch to be ready to perform.

I think this is why many fans are upset with Tunsil. He is the second highest paid O-lineman in the league and the highest paid player on the Texans roster. He is a Team Captain and leader of the 5th highest paid O-line who are not performing up to expectations.
Tunsil doesn't show up for any team activities that aren't mandatory and is known to be late or miss practices. If he were actually trying to improve his craft and take responsibility for his mistakes, it would be much easier to accept his faults. But that doesn't appear to be the case.

What do you make of this? This is Sam Darnold's passing stats through week 3.

Tunsil is coasting. Doesn’t give two shits about anything other then being paid like the best tackle. I got some news for you Laremy. You suck like 10 giant Hoovers. You know that giant sucking sound Ross Perot mentioned - he was talking about you. get your **** together or pack your bags and hit the pavement.

Looks like they have not just good, but VERY good playcaller/handler in O'Connell is what it looks like to me. Keeping Darnold right around 25 or so attempts wih high percentage, quick timed throws with the occasional shot downfield. You can kinda glean that not from the # of attempts, but the number of passes completed and his overall yardage each game; about the same number of completions with rather low passing yardage. he ain't letting Darnold taking a whole lot of chances. That high water mark of 268 yds against the 49ers is an outlier mostly due to that 97 yard bomb. Take that away its right around what he completed against us. & the thing is, they're only primed to get better once they get Addison and Hockenson back on the field. Best division in football. Lions and Packers and Vikes are gonna battle hard for that division this year.

good thoughts. to add to that,181 yards & 4 TDs tells me he's playing on a short field.

Yeah, its hella easier playing qb when you're getting extra possesions & playing on a shorter field. It's also easier for Flores to lock in on his aggressiveness on defense when you're playing with a lead. I think defensively, teams are gonna have to start heating Darnold up again & see if he's still "seeing ghosts". Either start sitting on the short stuff & make him/them march it down on 12-15 play drives every drive to see if they can sustain it consistently, or see if McConnell trusts Darnold enough to start navigating the pocket and start throwing it downfield......... to anyone but JJ.

The issue is finding and obtaining that solid player. My point of view is: always be willing to move on from a player if you can get a reasonable return and have a reasonable guy to replace him. Getting frustrated and just throwing Hopkins out the door is not the way to go. Personally, I think Blake Fisher can be the left tackle of the future or at minimum starting right tackle immediately. The Jaguar game should be a true revelation of whether Ryan's can fix this problem of stupid plays and stupid penalty hurting us. I will have more to say on this after Sunday one way or the other.

So.. Nick phones Miami asking for same deal Dolphins got from us ? Seems like TK would jump at that.

During the offseason. Heck, if I thought the rest of the line was doing well enough that we can make it work I'd do it.... but nah... I wouldn't throw Fisher out there the way the rest of the line is playing right now.
