Texans roster moves

Still no replacement for Clowney though. Those moves were all a result of Bullough being placed on IR.

Well, it's not like they're going to have to scour the street for someone to pick up the slack from all the snaps he's suddenly not going to be there for. "Replacing" Clowney just means we keep doing what we've been doing at LB with Mercilus, Simon, and Reed, and we can bring up whatever position we want.

Thanks. I overlooked him on my roster and he's not on the depth chart posted yet.

It also looks like the move of Clowney to IR hasn't become official yet. What are they waiting for?

No need to rush it until they find someone to take the roster spot

Clowney should be placed on IR tomorrow officially; probably won't be until Wednesday until we find out who gets that roster spot.

I assume they will either promote Ankrah from the PS; or sign another OLB off the street or from another team's PS. With Clowney out, only leaves 3 OLB's on the roster at the moment.

Interesting read...

While some have derided this year's quarterback crop for the talent at the top of the draft, it's rich with viable options in the later rounds and in undrafted free agency. One such quarterback is Northern Colorado's Seth Lobato, a raw prospect that possesses just about every physical tool required of the position.

Tell me more about these "tools"

At 6-6 and 230 pounds, Lobato measures in as one of the draft's biggest quarterbacks. He also owns one of the draft's best arms, allowing him to complete passes that the vast majority of prospects couldn't even attempt. Lobato sports a smooth release that requires little adjustment at the next level. Once recruited to play basketball in the Big 12, he possesses better-than-expected athleticism for a player his size. Lobato ran a 4.92 40-yard dash at his pro day along with 4.50 short shuttle and 7.07 3-cone. This mobility is readily apparent on game film, as Northern Colorado's offensive line often forced Lobato to extend plays with his legs.

Could someone tell me whether that showed a nice touch or a weak arm? I really can't tell the difference in a college game.

Nice touch. Look at how effortless it was with just a normal compact throwing motion. Compare to someone who gets criticized for a weak arm and watch the extra wind up because they know they are stretching their range.

Thanks. But I think he's going to have to take a little less off in a pro game. A couple of those throws looked like jump balls to me. But if it was touch instead of a weak arm, then he can adjust.

Texans sign quarterbakc Ricky Stanzi to practice squad, according to a source. Also looked at quarterback Seth Lobato

College pro day date: 03/21/11
Height: 6043
Weight: 223
40 Yrd Dash: 4.89
20 Yrd Dash: 2.85
10 Yrd Dash: 1.66
Vertical Jump: 32
Broad Jump: 09'07"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.60
3-Cone Drill: 6.99

I'm thinking they made it a footrace and Stanzi nipped Lobato at the finish.

Real talk, I liked stanzi coming out of Iowa. I wanted us to spend a late rounder on him. I thought he'd be a good fit under kubiak. I liked the way he played football.

Trivia - He was drafted by KC in 2011 at the same overall slot (135) as Savage in 2014. He must have been picked up by Jacksonville that year.

With these lame ass options why don't we just let JJ play QB? Let him win MVP.

He's less likely to be injured where he's at. I have no idea why anyone would sign up to play QB on the Texans unless they have metal legs or something.

There were a couple of throws that shows how strong his arm is. That 40 yard TD pass, where he got hit as he threw... he can't follow through on that throw, can't really set his feet up either, still the ball goes over 40 yards in the air... right on time, right on target.

Just watching that video, I see a lot of things that I like. Ball placement is nice, anticipation is pretty good. Mechanics, from the waist up are very nice, from the waist down, bleah... Good pocket awareness, good mobility, good throws on the run.

Nothing really jumped out about going through progressions, not sure if I'm ready to make an assessment of his poise under pressure.

That would be a good video to highlight his touch, lots of evidence of that. I'd say his arm is stronger than avg & I'd lean towards "big" arm.

I found this highlight video

I don't think he has a future here. He's got a bad habit of putting the football in front of the receivers.

We tend to go for the guys who under-throw, or put the ball behind the receiver. This guy would make average receivers look like NFL starters or something. Can't have that.

As far as injury history, he only has one significant one..........a right high ankle sprain early November 2009. It ended his very successful season with surgery several days later, determined to be necessary due to significant instability. In the beginning of his 2010 season, he was dealing with a re-injury of his same right ankle, after he went back for a pass and planted his foot in an awkward manner. Whether his initial notorious type of injury sets him up for a chronic recurrent problem if put to task with heavy service is to be seen.

Didn't that guy kill his gf and is in jail in Australia? He's probably out of the question.

PDS @PatDStat

I don't understand this one. Not the player, but the procedure. Are we in some kind of grace period to sign a Free Agent before the normal Free agency period? If I understand this right (and that is questionable) this contract commits him to the Texans until he's cut or the contract expires.
