Texans random thought of the day

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
The Texans have to stop making bad decisions. Like this one:

Randall Cobb - 3 years, $29 million.
If there is one thing I feel fairly strong about....Caserio will not make the same knucklehead moves as past Texans GM’s have. Using NE as an example, most players coming up on potential team strapping paydays were shipped out for picks versus paying them. Of course TB and a handful of others were mainstays. I think Caserio is hard at work trying to figure out where the fat trimming starts.

My problem with these former New England bums is that they think they're more important than the locker room because they made a career off leeching off Brady and Bellicheck. Then they go to these other teams and burn it to the ground. Some teams like the Texans NEVER learn and end up in a cycle of trash or mediocrity as they pat themselves on the back for New England but failing everywhere else

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
BTW, remember when the Texans traded Osweiler AND a second round pick to the Browns just to get rid of him? That second round pick is playing this weekend - Nick Chubb.

That, Clowney, and the Hopkins trade are collectively the worst in nfl history. Its amazing any of them happened. Its even more amazing the same franchise did them all.

Not that amazing considering the bumbling and flailing owners/CEO we have but yea pretty pathetic all the same.
I'll tell you a story. It's kind of a life lesson i learned a long time ago and it reinforces my opinion on people in general.

Probably, you know what I do for a living. For those who don't know im in law enforcement. In the first 6 months of my career we had a guy with a warrant turn himself in. He showed up in a lobby area with friends and family there to support him. His warrant was relatively minor for something like misdemeanor dope. The guy was facing some minor sentence like 10 days in jail.

Really not a big deal.

Trouble is, when he turned himself in he had felony dope in his pocket.

What kinda genius deliberately turns himself in with felony dope in his possession? He went from facing 10 days in jail to 2-5 years in prison.

There is no explanation for the stupid people are capable of. Stop trying to make sense of it.

If we trade Deshaun we won't compete for at least a decade the AFC will have Mahomes, Baker, Allen, Lamar, Herbert, DW, Trevor for the next 10 years. We aren't winning **** with any number of draft picks we aquire

We couldn't win when Matt Schaub had our best roster and that was in an era Brady, Peyton and Big Ben were the only QBs making the SB. So my optimism with the team will die if we lose DW

Not even Close

The Clint Longley trade which lead to the pick/picks used to get Dorsett was way worse in my mind. Tell me about Clowney's production and where you think his career is headed? They got a decent deal for Clowney. The Hopkins deal was another story.

Depends on if they can hit on another franchise QB.

For reasons I've listed many times they aren't going to win a championship with DW4. So you might as well take the risk while DW4's value is at its highest.

We're not gonna hit on franchise QB, it took Chiefs until Mahomes to find their first in a long time
Chicago hasn't had a good QB in our life time
It took Cleveland 18 years to return to the playoffs so we are assuming Baker might be their guy
Before Josh Allen the Bills had nobodies since the 90s

I can give you countless examples of how hard it is to find a franchise QB. Hence my lack of optimism.

But draft picks you say? The same sorry teams always have hugh draft picks and some of them won their first playoff game in over 20 years (Bills, Browns) others are still terrible and drafting high for consecutive years (Jags, Detroit) rebuilds are no guarantee to work. And I don't have much faith until proven otherwise these former Patriots dudes will fix things

Ok I get it you're a patriot hater.

The Colts did pretty good finding a QB.

The Seahwks did fine. Looks like the Chargers have also, along with the Bengals. Dallas seemed to have done fairly well moving on from Romo to Dak. It can be done. Where they're currently headed is nowhere and having an obviously disgruntled QB along the way. You're not winning anything if you keep DW4.

Since this is the Texans we're talking about here, what makes anyone think they can predict them? The odds are in favor of the Texans screwing the pooch here and making a big mess out of all this because it's what they've historically done. The Texans could be on the precipice of a total collapse here. It's not like it hasn't happened before.

Do you think maybe Jack Easterby had former Texans PR chief Amy Palcic fired and now she is working in the background to get Easterby fired. She has all of the contact information of all the media and players.
Even though Rootes said he was responsible for the Palcic firing, I believe your post is spot on.

The next shoe that could drop on the Texans could be a future player saying he refuses to play for the Houston Texans if they draft him. These Cal McNair Texans of today have all the makings for something like this to happen.

Rootes may have been instructed to cover for this SNAFU and why the recent rumor that Rootes could be ready to walk.

Could be worse... they could be like the Oilers and draft the player and then have him come out and publicly refuse to play for them

So it appears as though the dysfunction continues at a fevered pitch on Kirby. The Texans were the first of seven teams to fire their head coach, it looks like they will be the last team to fill that position.

Lots of people saying we can get another franchise quarterback. Our excellent list of past franchise quarterbacks: Carr, Schaub, Rosenfels, Leinart, Yates, Keenum, Fitzmagic, Mallett, Hoyer, Weeden, Osweiler, and Savage. See, there's nothing to it. The Texans have proved they can do anything.

The majority of posters here (besides a very small handful) want Watson here long term. The problem is, reports claim Watson does not want to be here.
Opinions on what to do about it vary widely.

Just like some men cling to their woman who clearly fell out of love and wants out of the relationship, so to do a lot of posters here. They can't imagine starting over and would prefer to beg forgiveness and promise to change......just don't leave me!!

While others view this as a chance at a fresh start. Maybe the next woman won't be as good in bed, maybe she won't be as pretty, but they are excited to move on in life and find someone who would return their love and affection.

At the end of the day, just like in a relationship, pride is the deciding factor. Will Watson swallow his pride and admit to his part in this media nightmare? Will McNair swallow his pride and admit that he is making poor choices and destroyed his franchise QB's trust? Or will they, like most people, admit no fault and go their separate ways?

I think the Texan's fans are actually the children in this marriage. Will our parents stay together or will they split? We don't want to see the split, but some of us understand it would be the healthiest option for all involved.

In fairness to Matt Schaub he was a decent QB until he broke his foot. 2X Pro Bowler; 1X Led NFL in passing yards. Bob McNair goofed in firing Kubiak. What he should of done was tell Gary your QB is broken, go find another one as good as better.

Except this isn't a relationship or a marriage, it's a business. Watson has virtually no leverage. You pin his ass down and force him to play out his contract and then tag him twice. Or you fix the issues.

After reading this post, with Easterby promoted to EVP of Football Operations, I nominate @theCATALYST to fill his old spot as EVP - Team Development. After this messy divorce, he can console fans and players with these types of analogies.

I don't blame them for letting Kevin Krajcovic go after reading this:

Krajcovic has worked for the Texans for the past 15 years and became their primary contract negotiator and salary-cap management specialist a year ago when the Texans fired senior vice president of football administration Chris Olsen.

Krajcovic helped negotiate several major contracts over the past year, including quarterback Deshaun Watson's four-year, $156 million extension, offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil's three-year, $66 million deal, inside linebacker Zach Cunningham's four-year, $58 million contract, outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus' four-year, $54 million extension and cornerback Bradley Roby's three-year, $36 million deal.

All part of the O'Brien Fustercluck, trade Brown so you can get screwed on Tunsil deal, trade Hopkins so you can trade for Cooks, fire Olsen who was one of the best capologist in the NFL for admin asst. I'm guessing Krajcovic was only doing what he was told.

I don't know what a football administration coordinator and analyst does, but it sounds like that after Olsen was let go it's another case of, "hey, Jack, I know you have no experience but can you do this for me because we have no one else to do it?" sort of deal. And of course, that gets to why'd they let Olsen go in the 1st place?

That said, I have no problem with Caserio putting his team together, even if Olsen were still here, provided it is Caserio putting it together.

They got that wrong. Easterby negotiated those contracts.
