Jags have already turned down two first-round picks. As I see it, any trade would have to be vets to get Ramsey and I don't see any we have that could be trade bait. The soon-to-be 2 and 4 Jags need to decide if they are going to attempt to save this season (here is where veterans in trade come in) or line up with Miami and Washington's bid for April. If it's the latter then Texans are out of any trades.
As I posted in the Jalen Ramsey thread under the NFL section, the Jags have issues besides record. First is Ramsey apparently not playing in 2019. The second issue and very important is cap space for 2020 (minus $10.5 m). It also seems that Jags are going to allow defensive player Yannick Ngakouye to leave in free agency after this year. Josh Allen doing well.
If I'm Jags & am convinced Ramsey will not change mind I go after McKinney, Cunningham, and Lonnie Johnson. Cap cost total 9.7 million dollars. Ramsey 7.4 million. I would keep Marcell Dareus through 2019 season but not pick up his 2020 option which would free up cap space 20 million dollars. 2018 first round pick Taven Bryan moves up.
It should be noted that 2020 cap space as of now for Jags is a -10.5 million. Moving Ramsey eliminates that as he is $ 13.7; I would add the three million savings to the 20 million from Darius and go after some free agents next offseason. Possibly one would be Texans Robey.
Lonnie Johnson is good addition to add to Bouye now and is a definite Improvement on a non playing Ramsey. McKinney and Cunningham are my starting linebackers strengthening that area with depth behind them. All three are on very good contracts.
If I'm trading with Houston it has got to help me and cost my division opponent.
If I am O'Brien I'm not sure I would do that deal. Ramsey would certainly change our defensive backfield. Do we have backups to at least step up at those positions? I like Cole.
Having Ramsey on board would completely change our 2020 draft strategy in my opinion.
