Texans random thought of the day

Edleman & Hogan would be out of the league by now if they were drafted to Bill O'Brien teams. Gronk would probably get 8 catches a season.

Welker was a special teams specialist before going to NE. Moss was washed out before NE. Deione Lewis & Steven Riddley were JAG after leaving NE.

Coaching matters.

We drafted three 2nd round OL for Bill O'Brien. We haven't fixed the interior of the line. We haven't fixed the edges.

Ben Jones is the starting center for a power run team. Brandon Brooks is a starting guard for a super bowl championship team. XSF is looking a lot better in Dallas than he ever did here.

I know... Ricky's fault Brooks, Jones, & XSF aren't here. All I'm saying is I expect Gaine to do the same thing. Refuse to pay decent money for players BO'b can't do anything with.

Get back to me after you look up Welker's career in Miami.

As much as I've been biotching and fussing on here about how poor the Texans have been playing, I'm finding myself pulling for the Steelers for the 1st time in my life. Literally. I'm a Luv Ya Blue era fan. I have pulled against the Steelers even when it would've benefitted the Oilers/Texans because of that. The #2 seed would be a cool thing to have and anything can happen in the playoffs.

Yep, hard to believe there are a few on here that hate BOB so much that they would love nothing more than to see them lose out. This just in the Chiefs could lose out and the Chargers could lose a game and the Texans could be a #1 seed.

Two weeks from now what will any of us being saying? We could be anywhere from the top seed to out of the playoffs altogether. I'm definitely going to be watching Philly play tonight.

I disagree with this post, except for the last sentence. This sentence is why Ricky's not here anymore and I've got much more faith in Gaine being able to find players that can help BOB more than I ever had for BOB/Ricky.

Reid/Daniel/Coutee/Carter/D.Thomas fixing the S and ST's, yeah I would say Gaine knows what he's doing and what BOB wants. With what he has done without 1st/2nd rd picks and a full compliment of draft picks good times are ahead. Unless Gaine/BOB decides to have an elective surgery and they miss the combine things are only going to get better.

Problem is the Colts are getting better and the Jags are just a QB like Flacco and better health away from being really good and they have a 1st place schedule plus the AFC South on the schedule next yr.

Colts are actually getting quite good. Jacksonville with a good QB would be scary. The Texans with a good front line would be even more scarier though. A good front line would make even OB's **** work. LOL

I would say the Colts are the best team in the AFC right now .

Their OL is getting really good and the defense is sound .

Other teams can get production out of those guys in power run teams. There's no reason our interior OL should not be stout with XSF, Jones, & Brooks. Then tricky Rick could have used the 2nd used on Martin on an OT.

We're wasting resources trying to find guys who can play well in spite of BO'b.

My issue is not with Gaine's ability to identify & acquire talent. My issue is with BO'bs ability to coach them. Hence I point to three guys no longer here who should have been put to better use. Talent was not an issue.

Three months after player acquisition, honeymoon period. We've been here before only to be complaining about the same players 6 months later.

I remember thinking the safety position was fixed when KJax was originally moved to safety before Hal's issue.

I remember thinking special teams was "fixed" when we brought in Peters & Cole... McMannis & that other dude before that. This time I feel better because it seems we finally solved the coaching issue that was the biggest problem.

Now if only we can solve our offensive coaching issues, I'd feel better about maximizing the talent Gaines brings in.

I can see this is going nowhere and that 11-5/12-4 wont be good enough for you.

But it was good enough for you when Kubiak was here.

What's that got to do with anything? I'm happy the team is 10-4. You are the one saying we won't win in the playoffs. Not me.

At 11-5 or 12-4 are you going to admit this team is more talented than you think?

I think we have as much chance to win it all as anyone, if BO'b would stretch the OL, incorporate pitches & tosses, misdirection, & a draw play every now & then.

I think he'll do a much better job protecting Watson with rhythm passes to start drives, moving the pocket, or incorporating a 6th offensive lineman as often as the Colts do.

The talent is only going to get marginally better from here out. Coaching has to make up for that like every other team does. & that's gotta be more than going three & out & hoping the defense creates something.

Colts are getting scary. Their investment in the OL is beginning to pay off at the right time....down the stretch. I know several of you guys are against the Texans trying to sign RB, Bell but are any of you prepared to see Bell possibly signing with the Colts? With their OL, Luck and that offense, he'd be their missing piece.

Man this board is tough! Here we have the Texans having won 10 of 11 and currently with the #2 seed in the AFC (even if it's only for a few hours) and yet the majority of posters are acting like a spoiled kid who is crying because their bike isn't as cool as the kid around the corner. I don't know what some of you were expecting, but if you were told in mid September that the Texans had all but virtually clinched a playoff berth with 2 games left you would have called that person crazy.

I'm sure fvcking glad this board wasn't around when the Oilers were here.

Great Post. == This would be a post for sure. -- "I guess Lemm will have another week to decide the first play will be Hoyle Granger up the middle".

Maybe we will be lucky and the Jets game will be a wake up call to OB about his stupid scheme. Hopefully we see more quick passes and decisions.

These are the facts: The Houston Texans are positioned to finish off the season as the #2 seed. That is in their control. This is where Bill OBrien will prove his mettle. These next few games will speak volumes. There are definite warts - problem with the emotionally attached crowd is that they waver in addressing them instead latching onto strawman arguments and avoiding the difficult subjects altogether

Those should be conversations for another day. Rick Smith mumbo jumbo? Offseason. Kubiak? Offseason. Bill OBrien suspect play calling, WR depth, strike out on Colvin by Kid Wonder Brian Gaine? All that doesnt matter -- its just a bunch of hot air.

Theres alot of smart guys here. NY game was shaky for sure, but like i've said all along .. have faith in Watson. There is something about this team. I dont care how many of you cite lack of talent, 'team is 1-2 years away' all that is BS too. Guys say no talent, but then arent willing to confess to having 'lucked out' on several games. Cant have your cake and eat it too sorry.

Im having fun though, OBrien has provided an entertaining season after such a rough start, and Im willing to pick him apart after the season, right now im just trying to see how this team is going to beat the Eagles after what they did to the Rams last night. Texans do not do well vs RPO QBs.

Hold up Steel aren't you the one complaining about how we're not talented?

They have talent, but aren't talented enough to win a championship.

Gotta give Gaine a couple of offseasons for that to happen.

So in your eyes this team is talented enough to win a championship with a rookie QB.

Man you must think BOB is a HOF level coach since no HC has ever won a SB with a rookie QB.

Except he’s not a rookie.

Except he’s not a rookie.

Basically this is Watson's rookie season and the reason he's struggling with the CB blitz. He's seeing things he's never seen before. But if you want to split hairs, be my guest.

This only shows where you are mentally with the Texans org and BOB in specific. It must be killing you that the Texans are having a successful yr despite the mess that was left behind for Gaine/BOB to cleanup.

I agree with the above. If BO'b does change his style in the playoffs, or even next week I will be more tolerant. But why doesn't he practice that throughout the season. Practice makes perfect. You don't see the Pats changing their philosophy in the playoffs. I understand the OL and WRs are weak but you should have known that before the season started. If the Texans get the bye then I think they have a chance to make it to the big game. If not then I think their chances are slim. Next two games are huge especially against Eagles. We will see what his strategy is next week. Any word on Miller or Hopkins?

Lombardi would probably have had a better o-line.

You must not get the concept of running the ball even if it's not successful to take time off of the clock to shorten the game. Do you want Watson throwing the ball 45/50 times a game? I dont.
Watson was sacked 6 times and hit 10 times in only 28 attempts as it was...................the Jets didn't need to be given any more opportunity to knock Watson out.

And still the powers that be cant seem to find a way to protect the guy on a consistent basis because its A) the line is the worst ever (it isnt) B) Watson holds on to the ball too long.

Nowhere in the formula is the stagnant and predictable passing game addressed only excused, its ONLY about the current mix of players because again OBrien needs 5 all pro's blocking in order for his plan to be successful?

Isnt it cool how good the passing game looked on the final drive? Thank God Watson took the game into his own hands and let his instincts take over and allow for DHops playmaking magic to win the game.

guess what .. if the Texans win the championship you dont get to celebrate, and I would ask you to quit this site .. would you? You stance is a bogus and weak, you'll claim no talent, but yet the team sits at 10-4 only based on coaching? LMAO you're something else.

How often have we seen Watson burn the blitz?

A) The line does suck B) Watson does hold the ball too long C) Coach ain't helping with quick hitting routes D) Watson hates to throw the ball away E) Watson has trouble with post snap reads

How often have we seen Watson burn the blitz?

HOw often have we had a QB with 5 game winning drives? (5 to be exact LEADING the NFL) .. beating the blitz is more than just "oh crap here comes the blitz" .. DC's are sending DBs in at very creative angles because they have OBs passing game clocked. Where are the hot routes? Where are the Bear Beaters? The Amoeba Front audibles?

Obrien calls the play and the guys have to run that play best they can. I guess Watson should just tuck it and run, but then he'd get accused for running too much no?
