Texans random thought of the day

I'd assume he could make the odd throw, just not with any kind of frequency to put too much stress on his shoulder.

Was 1/1 for 3 yards as a senior, for whatever that's worth.

Iirc, he said he couldn't throw the deep ball or throw with power and accuracy any longer

Never heard that myself. And that isn't to say you're wrong, but I'd like to read that quote to see if the context pertains to any kind of one off attempt or if he means in terms of actually quarterbacking a team.

Confucius says "Those who are not on the Band Wagon, need to get off." "If you can't stand the heat or the spice, stop BBQing."

I don't remember where I saw it, or if I'm remembering correctly (remember I'm old) but I think I saw that when they were talking about why he switched. All I see now was that it would have taken a long time to get back to where he could and he wanted to play asap

I think Confusion should stick to fortune cookies and let folks cook how they want. You don't have to ride a wagon to get where you want to go. :handshake:

My understanding is healing from first shoulder when he began passing after 6 months and tore labrum again. Lengthy article here

He also had minor ankle injury in 2011. Stats for those who want them:

He had one year left of eligibility & he didn't think he could throw well enough to be competitive with the other QBs on the roster. He didn't like his chances of getting drafted as a backup, never left the bench, QB. So he switched to WR where he could show off his athleticism.

8 months after the initial injury he tried throwing again and his shoulder came out; reinjured. It's in the article I linked. Why risk injuring a possible high profile WR? He's moved on from playing QB, fans should too. He can be an electric WR.

But on Aug. 18, while cautiously testing his shoulder in preseason drills, he tossed a simple, short pass to a cutting receiver, no more than a flick of the wrist. "It popped out," Miller says of his shoulder. He had reinjured the labrum. "I have never felt pain like that in my life, and I never want to go through it again."

Texans' Derek Newton says he's ready for opener

ARLINGTON - Although there was never any intention of playing starting offensive tackle Derek Newton in the Texans' preseason finale, the veteran blocker did show that he's made a sound recovery from his hamstring injury during drills before kickoff.

Newton was able to run with no visible signs of discomfort, moving well as he warmed up before sitting out the game.

Newton got hurt during the Texans' first day in full pads during training camp, missing the entire preseason before returning to practice this week.

Newton says he's now primed to return for the Texans' regular season opener against the Chicago Bears.

"It feels pretty good, man," Newton said. "Long overdue to be back. I got a little run in and it felt good. I'll definitely be back."

Bill O’Brien would like to see a shorter preseason

Texans coach Bill O’Brien is among the growing numbers of people around the NFL who thinks there are too many preseason games.

O’Brien said this morning on PFT Live that four preseason games is too many. O’Brien noted that teams cut their rosters from 90 players to 75 players before the fourth preseason game, then from 75 to 53 after the fourth preseason game, and he thinks it would make more sense to just have one cut from 90 to 53 after the third preseason game, and scrap the fourth preseason game.

“I do believe that if we could go to two or three preseason games, I do think that would help,” O’Brien said. “When you think back to last year, and we talked about maybe eliminating the 75 cut and just having one cut, I do think that would help. I think you go into that last game really know for the most part who your team is going to be. It’s difficult because you don’t have a ton of players available to you in that fourth preseason game. My opinion would be we could get it done in two or three preseason games, but again, I’m not in the decision-making role, that’s just my opinion.”

Shortening the preseason would seem to be something that management and labor alike could agree on, but there’s no guarantee that the players and owners will reach such an agreement any time soon. The owners make money off the preseason, and they wouldn’t want to give that money up — which is why NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has floated the idea of eliminating two preseason weeks but adding two regular season weeks. The players have voiced opposition to that.

So while a shorter preseason might sound like a good idea, it may not be an idea that owners will embrace.

He probably is also unaware of results of the draft; you should name them. Oh and update on injured players such as JJ Watt, Derek Newton and Duane Brown.

I hope he was wondering if we picked up anyone's cut players or recent activity, but basically no, we seem to like our roster so far and have not grabbed an oline body as was thought we may do. QB1/RB1, cold one paycheck

Well, A new NFL Season is upon us and after the success we had last season we have some new uninformed Fans. Here is a Short Guide line that should be followed thruout the Season.

1. Thou shall not worketh on Sundays also known as game day. (Sometime Thursdays, Monday if you get lucky)
Exceptions are only given to those chasing bad guys, those saving lives, burning buildings, dying folks, or work as a referee/sports broadcasters/working anywhere on a NFL field. Find a new jo...b if need be.
Google good jobs no weekends

2. Thou shall root whole heartedly for the home team, even when it gets ugly, and it can.
Google “Rosencopter” (I still dream about that)

3. When the Texans score a TD or field goal, you shall not remain seated/quiet/lax, this is your time to shine. Hoot and Holler, High-Five at a minimum (even if you are alone high-five yourself!). I tend to kiss my wife, some say this is an Aggie deal, but I just like kissing my wife (Hook em'). Please do not be offended if I kiss your wife in the moment, it is probably due to her close proximity to me or… she’s hot, I’ll only blame it on #80, you can take that up with him and you don’t want to do that.
Google Cortland Finnegan Ass Whoopin

4. Work Etiquette.
A.On Fridays before Sunday games, and same day for week games, you shall weareth Team Paraphernalia, at a minimum team colors. Learn them (deep steel blue/liberty white/ battle red). Don’t forget and don’t go cheap on some good gear.
Google Texans clothing

5. Upon greeting folks on these days, (Friday before Sundays and actual game day of mid week) you must have the word Texans in your greeting. This is easiest accomplished by saying “Good Texan Morning” or “Have a Good Texan Weekend” and if your having a bad day tell your boss like Davy Crockett did….” You may all go to hell and I will go to a TEXANS game.” However you do it, do it with pride!
Google Davy Crockett

6. Last but not least, have a enormous amount of food and drinks that will only enhance your game experience. Have fun, teach/brainwash your kids in the ways of the wise.
Google Texans Tailgate

Im not big on chain letter crap stuff, but as a true fan share this with a rule-breaking friend, get these bandwagoners in line.

GO TEXANS….

If I were the punctuation police I would point out that you just identified your wife as Hook em'

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
