or a possible throw a curve and deceive your buddy smokescreen?

I thought about that, but could come up with a possible target for this misdirection? If we're eyeing Hundley at 16 wouldn't that make other teams deal with the Niners, Saints, or 'Fins to move up ahead of us? I don't see how this sort of misdirection benefits us.

they would be eyeing him at no earlier than #51, which then would make for lots of gullible players at the table

And if someone moves up to take him, wouldn't that push another we were actually interested in down to us maybe?

or a team could recognize we might draft him to set up an auction for other teams and to avoid running up the possible price, make an offer before we select. Now I'd say that would be sweet but Bah007 and Infantrycak would say I am forcing a draft trade.

Which is probably their plan. I just don't think they will draft a QB with an early pick this year.

I don't either, which is why I believe this is much to-do about nothing at all

Then why waste a player visit?

why not??? How many picks they have vs how many visits they allowed?

edit: a lot of times the player a team drafts never talked to or visited that team correct?

I never understood this line of thinking. If we want him, why would we trade the pick? All it does is make the #15 pick more valuable as teams will try to trade ahead of us to get him... it will cause another player to fall & that may be our goal.

LOL except that Hundley is a QB, not a RB. I have no issue with trading down. Most years I even prefer it. I might even prefer it again this year, depending on what our options are when our pick comes up.

The discussion in the other thread was about you predicting Dallas trading all the way up to #16 specifically to take a RB, which I do not think is a realistic scenario.

Neither of us said we were against trading down, just that we didn't believe the specific trade you proposed was a possibility.

Charles Hampton was Texans communications coordinator for years. Congrats on the promotion. He also does a tremendous job.

Brett Maikowski spent last 2 years as Colts PR assistant. He interned 2 years with Texans and did a tremendous job.

Texans hired Brett Maikowski as communications manager, promoted Charles Hampton 2 communications manager. They'll share responsibilities.

In these boring days with lack of Texan topics, threads have degenerated into discussions of restaurants and all sorts of things. You do it too.

What ever dude. Though how you can relate Wilfork/barbeque to Basketball random/Texans is beyond me.

you keep on being yourself... it looks good on you

Forgot about this thread. TK in my scenario we don't want him but will use as trade bait; not saying this is what the visit was for but why visit with a player
if you have no intention of drafting other than to set up possible trade?

I don't understand this logic. If I thought you wanted a certain guy that I also wanted, I wouldn't call you to talk trade, I'd call the team(s) ahead of you to make sure I got him. Kind of like what TK said.

yeah the thinking is that you make teams you want one player so they leave the player you really want alone

and I don't understand why you don't understand. Each team above Texans in theory should want a better package than Houston would take. Knowing Texans have three QBs (two that just signed contracts and Savage who still could be the future QB) would indicate they don't have to keep Hundley. If I were a GM looking for Hundley, I'd see what Texans wanted. Your second sentence indicates Texans want Hundley to keep and that is not what I am saying. There are QB hungry teams and Hundley would just be trade bait.

Houston drafted Drew Henson 6th round 2004 and then traded to Dallas for a third in 2005. I think a similar trade could be done same draft.

The only reason a team would trade TO the Texans would be to prevent another team FROM taking him. That would not be a valid reason to act like you wanted him. And that is what I think Obi is saying as well

Bingo. You don't get people to trade with you to get X by showing interest in X.

I think these kinds of visits are much more simple than psyching other teams out. They are for things like due diligence for an Aaron Rodgers scenario of a player making an unexpected fall, so whether the Texans would take him at 51 or 83(?).

Are any of the people that made that trade still in anyone's front office??
I can't remember any team drafting some guy then trading him to another team right away. Well, except for the SD/NYG deal that moved Eli to the Giants.

That and sometimes I imagine there is a split decision among coaches/scouts that warrant a closer look. More info is never a bad thing

Smart way of doing business.

We agree on a lot of things, just not upper mgt's role in past team failures.

For instance how badly the team is lacking speed in quite a few positions.

Oh we agree on those, especially the team speed. We just disagree on the want to by some and the power of others.

I believe a team will only be as good as it's scouts

I agree on speed generally. We solved my biggest concern of a true rangy FS. I'd like to see a speedy ILB next to Cushing.

I differ on WR. I am not a fan of speed merchant WRs. There are complete WRs like AJ who happen to be fast but there are very few long term speed freak highly productive WRs. They shine for a little while and fade away - and can't be counted on when you have to have a catch. Bob Hayes, the inhuman and original speed freak is the only one I can think of in the hall.

yeah I'm real happy we addressed FS and agree about ILB... WR's I would like to see one burner to keep other teams honest, but you're right that few are #1 options

OK. I agree. OUCH! But it did hurt a little.

And he is the one I remember the most as a frustrating player for the balls he dropped that were in his hands. If he had caught half the balls he dropped, he'd have twice as many TDs as he got. I think that is why I place such a high focus on CATCHING THE BALL in my receivers.

Payne and Meltzer just played a clip of D-Ryans basically saying the field at NRG sucks. He never blamed the field for any injuries. He just said it wasn't a very good field to play on.

Imo, if D-Ryans says it you have to listen. Right? I would

We just signed RB Chris Polk
Wait... did you just scoop Playoffs?
:D

After having his contract offer yanked by the Eagles last week, running back Chris Polk has found a new home.

The Texans have reached a contract agreement with Polk, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported.

Polk (5-11, 222) is likely to compete with Alfred Blue and Jonathan Grimes for time behind Arian Foster in the Texans’ backfield. Polk rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns on 46 carries for Philadelphia in 2014.

Yet it’s a shame Chip Kelly didn’t recognize Polk’s value was greater than numbers or status suggest. At 25 years old and $1.542 million, he was a younger, cheaper alternative to the Murrays and Mathews and Sproles of the world, at an area where teams don’t necessarily need three stars to achieve success. In fact, even the best ball-carriers are reliant to an extent on the offensive line to pave the way, which is why it’s questionable to allocate so much salary-cap space into the backfield in the first place.

Plus, Polk looked good. Granted, small sample size here, but he carried 57 times for 270 yards-a 4.7 average-and seven touchdowns over the past two seasons. The guy has a nose for the end zone, and a no-nonsense, north-south, look-for-contact running style that will serve him well in any offense. He even contributes on special teams.

Told Cowboys, Texans, Cardinals have been calling St Louis Rams trying to strike a deal for Michael Brockers. Dolphins also interested.

Draft day chatter, but... ?

Edit: got a second source on this interest, Rams shopping Brockers.
