Texans random thought of the day

Not speaking for Lucky but I think he meant that the Tunsil cap savings should not be used to sign another player who's just a jag
I took it to mean he doesn’t mind restructuring & pushing money into the future for a guy who can play & wants to be here. Tunsil.

He doesn’t like restructuring guys just to free up money & just waiting for an opportune time to dump him. David Johnson, Whitney Mercilus

i was thinking the Texans were high on Howard. Now I have to assume that’s not the case.

I doubt they look to replace Britt/Morrisey, I doubt they look to replace Tunsil.

They just signed Can & I bet he starts at RG.

So maybe they draft someone to start at RT and/or LG.
They will move Howard back to LG in which he was starting to play good at. They said they like his versatility, therefore, they’re high on him.

Hmmm....does this reworked contract make him more attractive to other teams for a potential trade?
Technically yes as their cost would only be $1000000 for his new base but Texans would have to eat 33 million dollars in dead money. I don't know what another team could offer to make us do that. From what I'm reading from sources is the Texans received offers but nothing that would make them move on from the two-time pro bowler. I can't see how that would change.

May have tried to trade him but had no respectable offers? I thought it a bit early and premature for a restructure, should've waited until after the DW4 trade was done at the earliest. Tunsil is gone after 2023. Would rather have drafted Evan Neal with a 5-year contract. Long term planning.
I don't think Neal is out of the picture as he could easily translate and probably better to right tackle. We need definite Improvement there even if it's just from Charlie heck. I think he had allowed six sacks last year

I don't know about you but the 2018 roster was far more talented than the 2021 or the 2022 roster.

The 2023-2024 roster should look more like the 2018 roster. Hopefully the 2016 roster with a QB. Fact is, trash wanted out and it takes awhile to replace good players even if they are trash people. But you cant win championships with trash people so that was really just a waste of time. Particularly when the trash people are the leaders of your team.

The team will be in a much better place if Caserio does his job with this draft and the Derrick haul. But it's probably going to take 1 more down yr and clearing of cap space/draft to get where fans want the team to be. (Contenders)

Hopefully they draft a LG like Salyer and let Heck/Howard fight it out for the RT job.

If the Saints deal goes down I hope Caserio trades Howard. What I dont want is for Caserio to give Howard a 5th yr option.

An OL of,

Tunsil/Ruiz/Britt/Cann/Ramczyck, with Heck/Morrisey is a much improved OL. Just gotta find some playmakers and Caserio should have the picks to accomplish this.

This is Howard's last year under contract.
Cann may start this year, but what about next year?
The same with Britt.
Tunsil will be a FA after 2023.

The Texans will certainly get some O-linemen in the draft. With what picks is uncertain.

That's understandable. We were talking about drafting OL to compete for an OL spot. Looks like there's only one spot "up in the air" is RT. Or LG if they put Howard back at RT.

Right now my guesstimation would Howard at LG and Heck at RT. Of course, the rest of free agency and the draft can change that very quickly

That's not the only reason to draft a player. Even if a draft pick doesn't grab the starting spot this year, there are still holes in next year's roster. Do the Texans keep chasing rejects to plug holes, or develop their own players at rookie contract prices?

I thought Caserio signed Cann/Britt to 2 yr deals. Tunsil is also signed through the 2023 season. Cann/Britt are only avg OL and can be easily replaced in 2 yrs. Hopefully Morrisey will be ready by then, if not then it will be time to draft a C. Britt is actually better than avg but he cant stay healthy. Here come all of the DVOA crowd to tell me I'm wrong about Britt.

Britt may be better in a Warhol OL. Britt speaks the gospel of smash mouth football.

As a rookie in Oct 2019, Blake Cashman (who we just received in a trade from the Jets) suffered an injury in practice and lost the rest of the season to a fractured shoulder and torn labrum in practice. Last season, he missed a significant part of the season to COVID positive test and a grade II groin/hamstring tear. He has only had sparse play in 7 games since 2019. His shoulder injury seems somewhat more concerning, as he had a significant shoulder injury history in college.

BTW. in college, he had surgery on both shoulder for labrum tears. So that likely he was a setup for his rookie year.

I'm not in that crowd. Just here to tell you that you're wrong about Britt.

This year doesn't matter. Caserio needs to draft a C in the mid rounds and start developing the guy for 2023.

I'm hoping with a yr of NFL S&C that Morrisey can become that guy. He's likely to get the chance, because Britt is likely to be hurt at some point.

Howard's last four games were at left tackle where he ranked very high. If I remember correctly his trial at left guard was horrible. I'm hoping that he might do better at right tackle but I would not be surprised now if he is shipped out depending on who we get for the oline in the draft.

I am probably going out on a limb here but I think Nick believes that Morrissey will be the guy to replace Britt. If he is wrong I think Nick will try to pick up a center in the draft of 2023.

Need to put him at RT and leave him there. Let him and Heck battle to start.

Totally agree or possibly a trade to Miami. My thinking is Eichenberg is doing fairly well and could be moved to right tackle. Howard continue to improve at left tackle as that is not the blind spot. I would jump at 2.50

That’s why I said he was starting to play good. He started off rough but got better and then they moved him to LT.

I think DT Akiem Hicks is still available.
Played well with Chicago but his big drawback is he is 32.
His positives are he can play on the edge or anywhere inside and has a lot of experience.
Offer him a 2 year deal team friendly deal.
He could be a real asset on a younger DL and I think he and Lovie had time together in Chicago.

If he would take a Jordan Jenkins/Demarcus Walker type contract he would be an upgrade here.

Cap will be cleaned after this yr.
There $118MM in cap space in 2023. However due to 2 years of shuffling chairs there are only 21 players under contract. So that $118MM is not going to go as you think it will. Maybe it will allow Texans to sign some 3 - 4 year contracts instead of the 1 year deals they have been signing. And that's a good thing. But don't get to excited and try to control the emotions......because.....you know.........FUBAR.

Control my emotions?

It's going to take a couple of yrs to cleanup the mess BOB left behind. Also I think the cap is going to be higher than you think after the new TV deal/Gambling money.

Your boy Caserio is gone. After 2023 Game Boy will cut the cord. They will marginalize his responsibilities until then. After 2023 Game Boy will be able to stomach what's left on Nick's contract.
