Texans random thought of the day

ren Fells was signed as a blocking TE. I wasn't overly impressed with his blocking. However, his production in the red zone was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully the offense does not revert to ignoring the TEs in the passing ga
I really liked Fells catching the ball too ... for a guy who was signed primarily as a blocker , he really exceeded expectations as a pass catcher.

The Houston Texans will be sold before the 2025 season starts. TIA
That might be the best thing that can happen to us as fans ... and might be the only way to get rid of OB.

A good franchise starts at the top ... We've had terrible playoff losses in each of the last two seasons , both of which would have gotten most coaches sent packing - Yet this ownership group keeps giving that guy more authority / power within the franchise.

Lot of good insight in there, likes Roby who needs to improve ball skills, Conley who needs to improve zone by learning to anticipate route combos, LJ, did not seem impressed who he was working with in the off season but liked his raw talent. We need a pass rush!
I think Roby and Conley were brought in for Man coverage not zone. I agree on LJ but still think better at safety.

Can't you sell your seats for a year?
Yes, initially when the organization began, I purchased the PSL and my mother and I purchased the season tickets. As she aged and walking long distances became a challenge I offered the second seat to friends and always was able to sell.

This is the first time ever of being able to retain seats and PSL without purchasing the tickets. I only have one installment due since the organization postponed accepting payments until July 15 (almost two months from original due date), but my chief fear is purchasing and due to restrictions and fan concerns of eating the cost. It’s the Covid issue that’s my primary concern.

The game day experience of hanging out with fans, cheering loud, hugs and high fives while watching the field action in person was the fun part for me in attending. If it becomes a library like setting, I would prefer to watch from home. There is going to be some information on 11 sports shortly.

What's the lowdown on Phillip Gaines. What I know is he's 6'-0", 193 lbs and recovering from ankle surgery. I've also read he's one of the fastest CB's when healthy. I've seen where he's projected to make the team, but could he be a surprise or be a significant contributor?
4.38 at combine 2014. Has not done much since leaving Rice. I liked him then. IIRC Houston had him 2019, at some point let him go then brought him back. Minimal GTD$ of one million. Don't see him beating out Roby,Conley or LJ but may make team with John Reed as backups.
Edit: clarification..small GTD of total contract of 1 million, not $1m GTD as implied.

Weight is not a significant risk factor for hamstring injuries........especially Fuller's purported 5 lb gain. Hamstring strain injury is likely to occur during the late swing phase and late stance phase of sprint running (a short video below to explain the basics of the phases) Shortened optimum muscle length, lack of muscle flexibility, strength imbalance, insufficient warm-up, fatigue, lower back injury, poor lumbar posture, and increased muscle neural tension have all been identified as modifiable risk factors.......not weight gain.

I was asked what muscle neural tension is. It's just what it sounds like......undue tension on the nerve. Large nerves don't have nearly the stretch of muscles, but when they shorten (actually all the way back to their more proximal larger nerve origins all the way up to the spinal cord), they can cause much the same problems as when the muscle shortens. This can especially be troublesome with repeated injuries to the hamstrings.

I'm a bit surprised there isn't more comment on the likely lineups for this coming.season.

It's looking like our DL, in the base 3-man, will have Watt at RE and Blacklock at LE, with Dunn in the middle.

In passing situations, it's looking like the most promising lineup will have Watt at RE with Charles Omenihu inside next to him; and Mercilus at LE with Blacklock inside next to him.

Blacklock, being a rookie, may be a bit raw, but I'm liking the potential in this lineup. I think we'll see a much improved pass rush and a significantly improved defense.

It all depends on Watt staying healthy, but I think Dunn will hold up well and I'm expecting significant improvement in his second year from Omenihu.

Our biggest concern is depth, but these 5 are going to prove to be a quality lineup. I think the glass is 3/4 full.

I have Blackson over Blacklock unless Weaver moves Blackson to Nose as I've advocated.
I agree with you on passing downs and we need to more than double 2019 sacks. This defense could be much better and if Omenihu and Mercilus are what I hope, Watt could have over 15 sacks and earn his salary. JJ seems determined to do that.

The word that I have on Blackson is solid against run but not a productive pass rusher. At his size, 6'-4", 319, a move to nose sounds right.

Played there in college and should be smooth replacement for Reader. Also gives us our best players on the field together. I just don't see Dunn at Nose even in Weavers alleged new defense.
Moving Blackson to nose and Dunn would play an adequate backup role. I have Watson in a backup role at DE. We need one more to step up. I don't know who that would be. Savage-Lewis is an unknown.

At Auburn 2014 he was played out of position at DE and though he showed me a lot 2019, he'd be slam dunk at Nose and could kick out side if needed eliminating extra player. Signed through 2021 at good contract.

Vanderdoes is my guess. Carlos Watkins gone after 2020 if not before. As much as I wanted him to succeed, he didn't. Best scenario is V replaces Dunn 2021 and we bring in UDFA. These low contracts allow us to absorb the JJ WATTS. Now if someone steps up to move RG Fulton out the door.
