Texans @ Packers AAR

I've got to take responsibility for this one. I didn't watch a second of the game as my daughter asked to go on a motorcycle ride. It was too beautiful here not to oblige her.

The oline was bad but I think CJ is just as much to blame. He holds the ball with his eyes fixed down field and doesn't seem to recognize until it's too late what his quick option is. Love was pressured a lot too, but he adjusted and was able to make plays with quick passes.

I won’t stand for this anti CJ propaganda. I’m sure there is some to blame, but this guy was having to evade pressure within 2 seconds on several occasions. Also, let’s clarify! This isn’t man on man getting beat. It’s free runners because his teammates have absolute zero clue on who to block. Hes quick to go through reads. The stare down field thing has never been on his tape so I don’t know why we are even remotely saying this.

Oh, and let's not forget Tank's dropped TD. Games usually come down to a handful of plays. The Texans didn't make enough. And that's with winning the turnover battle 3-0.

Even with the crappy OL this should have been a Texans W. Just didn't make those 2-3 plays they needed to make.
The OL played like crap. There was some bad play calls and I would even go as far as saying the Texans were outcoached. However, not enough is being made of Tank's dropped TD. If he makes that catch, the narrative in this thread changes to the Texans with all of their injuries and mistakes went on the road, in a hostile environment and won a close game.

At the end of the day, with Nico out, Tank has to catch that pass.

I didn't see the game, did Tank drop a TD?
Yes, it was a tough catch. But one we would expect him to make.

More concerning imo was the lack of separation him and Diggs were getting. I expect Metchie and Hutchinson to have problems getting open, but Diggs and Dell are supposed to be elite separators. And I haven’t seen that so much out of Tank this season.

I think we are seeing a sophomore slump based off last season’s broken leg and being freaking shot! Not surprising but a bit disappointing because he looked so good his rookie season and the team really needs him.

The last paragraph will slow down explosion.

The communication, cohesion and chemistry is lacking big time on that offensive line. What I noticed on quite of few of those stunt plays, they were cleaning Schruggs completely out there, while the other one rush right up the middle. We should’ve address that at the half and have the running back pick up that man. I saw all of them lose on those 1 on 1 matchups to freaking easy.

Coaching and their mishandling of simple game management and coaching in general. No way you run a sideline play in crunch time like that Slowik. Dude also refused to adjust. Meco should’ve called timeout and toss the darn challenge flag. His mismanagement there cost them 7. Green Bay hurried up to the line because they knew that was a backwards pass. Love dropped a dime to his receiver for the easy TD.

Missed tackles and missing five starters on that defense showed against the run.

But hey we had a shot to steal that one with Fairbairn’s clutch FG. Unfortunately we left too much time on the clock.

Can’t win them all but they better unscrew that offensive line because other teams will try to follow suit.
I agree that our running back should have been left into block more. However, that would have totally eliminated our Run game. How come we could not use two back set?
Today’s results mean next week the Texans 5-2 play the Colts who sit 4-3 in a game that could either put some daylight at the top of the division or tie it all up.

We’ll need to play better on O if we are to beat them, and could do with some starters back on defence too, Richardson is dangerous and takes good LB play to contain.
We will miss Al-Shaair and To'oTo'o vs Indy.

After Pierce's big 43-yard KOR. The Texans started the next drive by running on 4 out of their five plays for 9, 4, 4 and 6 yards. At that point, the only pass during the drive was a 2-yard pass to Diggs. They got to the six by running the freaking ball.

So, they get to the six-yard line and I would have like them to man up, get physical and continue pounding the ball. Instead, Slowik calls 3 straight passes, they are all incomplete and the Texans settled for a FG. I don't even think any of those passes were even play action. On one of the incompletes, they even went empty which totally eliminated Packers from considering a running play. SMDH.

That's another thing. On 3rd & 15. I can understand taking a safe play by throwing short of the sticks. But, why call/throw the out on that last drive that if caught or incomplete would stop the clock? I thought the objective was to keep the clock running and forcing the Packers to use a TO.

They lost on the road to a quality opponent but from a communication, execution and coaching perspective, there were too many questionable decisions.

He made the same catch last week for the TD.

Oline is just garbage. Can’t pick up the simplest of stunts.

Conversely our blitz packages are always just bull rushes. Nothing exotic

Way too many times I see Tunsil and Howard just standing around looking lost

I’m still pissed the Oline didn’t run over to get CJ after he picked up that first down on the sideline. You have to go protect him

Mixon is a bad man.

If you’re gonna pass on third down at end of game go ahead and pass on first and second and try to score the TD! But if you run on first and second then run again on third down, use their timeouts!!

And why wasn’t Mixon in on that last third down? He’s been your only weapon all day!

Why wasn’t the “backwards “ pass even challenged?

They need to go scorched earth on the colts Sunday!!

Despite all that the Texans came within 1:40 seconds of winning that game.

They also left at least 9 points out there as well. The Tank dropped TD cost them 4, Hewitt's body slam likely cost them 4, then going for 2 in the 1st half of a game instead of kicking for 1. And if you want to take it even further, not throwing the challenge flag on the maybe lateral, that was followed by a TD on the very next play that GB hurried to get snapped. Of course the 30 yard PI helped on that as well.

This is a fairly easy win if the Texans could just get out of their own way.

Meco needed to throw that red flag, it was worth the risk.

They needed a better strategy to keep the ball out of the packers hands at the end.

Slowik needs to rethink his entire offensive mindset with this putrid pass protection.
I caught the end of DeMeco's press conference. To paraphrase:
  1. In hindsight, he should have thrown the flag. Hindsight is 20/20
  2. On the 3rd and 15 incompletion to Tank. He had a one on one matchup and should win the matchup and catch the ball. The fix, make a play.
  3. On fixing the pass protection. Everything is on the table.

It's such a kick in the teeth to watch just about every unit play good to great and watch a unit (the passing game) completely tank a game.

Losing a game when you're winning the turnover margin 3-0 is unacceptable when you've got the aspirations and talent we've got.

The 3rd and 15 play really highlighted CJ's inexperience and is something we don't often see because he often looks like a 7 year vet out there. The play call is fine and I appreciate going for the win. The idea is fine too with wanting your receiver to win his 1 on 1.

The major thing for me though is CJ understanding that the only way the play can be bad is if it's an incompletion, if it's short and out of bounds, or a penalty. You need Tank to win clean and not have anything be thrown to the sideline if it's not clearly past the sticks.

A good teaching point where in most situations a sack is bad, except in this one. Anything that keeps the clock running is good.

"The goal is to complete the pass"
Hell of a thing to hang a winnable game on... completing a 3rd & 15 to a receiver that hadn't managed to catch a pass all game. Stop the clock for tyhe opponent as well. Whatever could go wrong?
I especially hate the mentality sequencing. Like if that's your plan then do that from 1st down onwards. Instead they went the lets milk their timeouts and run into an obvious run stopping blitz but then when it's 3rd down we now want to not milk timeouts and instead win. It's inconsistent and needs work.

People criticized Buffalo for how they ended the game against us and in fairness it was pretty stupid but at least they had a plan and stuck to it. The failure on them was execution. For us we failed to commit to the actual plan and got rightfully dinged for it.

What if there plan was to get to 4th & 5, then go for it?
