Just thinking out loud here but there has to be 3 to 4 OL players on other teams practice squad that Texans could sign that would be an immediate upgrade to the Texans OL???

Brown lost a little leverage tonight with the Texans win not that I necessarily think it will change anything between him and the organization, actually both sides may become even more entrenched if that's possible.Win is a win so i say the line did good today. Who needs that guy Duane?
I am worried about that guy Xavier Su-AFilo............. he does not look.......... WELL.

Osweiler was a disaster in so many ways. All that cap space floating around and Brandon Brooks is earning $8m per average and looking great on the Eagles.
Ben Jones had a great season in Tenn too.
Prioritising Osweiler over these 2 resigning has set the franchise back a few years right there.
Could be looking at Mancz/Martin developing at LG and Davenport developing at RT with 3 quality starters in play to minimize their current weaknesses.
One positive is now that Watson has shown his running ability teams are going to have to respect that, it won us the game last night and will hopefully take a little pressure off from the front 7.
I also get the feeling Watson is going to be very good at punishing teams for bringing 8 in the box. He missed 1 opportunity in the 4th last night but that's one he'll learn from next time.
The game was ugly but there were some signs of hope, #4 grew into the game as the night wore on. Hopkins was winning his battle for the most part. Thought Foreman showed flashes which should move the game plan towards him being the workhorse and free Miller up to be that change of pace guy he's so much better as.

JB you might be right. I dunno I think I could argue the pro or the con, make a valid argument either way.Didn't they have to run a 7 man OL much of the game? I think Brown gained a bit more leverage tonight
Well ... They let guys walk this year or weren't aggressive because they were holding out for Romo . The image of Romo behind this OL is frightening .
I watched the game late last night, and it seemed like after most every play on offense, that either Clark or Filo, or both were on the ground.
Yeah, I saw Clark getting rolled several times and XSF was just absolutely being manhandled by Geno Atkins! Gotta get DB back soon or the season will probably be lost. Just hope next year's draft class is stacked with good O-linemen!

You meant to say that Ricky got lucky the deal didn't materialize?Well ... They let guys walk this year or weren't aggressive because they were holding out for Romo . The image of Romo behind this OL is frightening .
One of the three stations I was switching between quoted some non radio person saying he thought Texans Oline look pretty good and another radio guy voiced in response to a caller saying it "wasn't the Xs and Os that team should be worried about but rather the 'Jimmys and Joes'. The caller explained this as no matter what coaches taught or game planned the players had to perform. His point was the terrible play vs Jags was all on players not coaches. Radio guy countered that 'Jimmys and Joes like Brown had to be playing for mess to be on coaches. Seemed to me to just be going around in circles so I turn off radio. On the radio Ted Johnson killed the OL at camp . He said Lamm was a pig on ice and then I think the powers that be told him to tone it down .
I would pose that it was Romo who was lucky...You meant to say that Ricky got lucky the deal didn't materialize?

Those 7 OL had to do with having no TEs. The 2 extra may have been OL, but were actually eligible receivers. Even with Brown they probably would have gone 7 because of no TEs on the roster, so I certainly don't see how that benefited Brown at all.
Former 10-year NFL/Green Bay OT Greg Koch said on 790 radio this past week right after the opening game debacle vs Jacksonville that the lack of talent on the offensive line and resulting break down of the teams offense represented a total organizational failure by the Texans. He also went on to say that the problem goes well beyond the absense of Duane Brown. One of the three stations I was switching between quoted some non radio person saying he thought Texans Oline look pretty good and another radio guy voiced in response to a caller saying it "wasn't the Xs and Os that team should be worried about but rather the 'Jimmys and Joes'. No different than if a pedal car is placed in contention with a Lamborghini on the track.................doesn't matter who the pedal car's pit crew is.......
KHeyl.lnou[lfuv.hjde/URL]I agree that the problem goes well beyond DB's absence but they need him back here asap to at least help part of the problem. A left side of Brown at LT and Allen/Mancz at LG is better than Clark/Lamm at LT and XSF at LG!
I still have a problem with this. X, Mancz, & Allen weren't as bad as what we saw vs Jville. I would think adding Martin while removing X or Allen would be an upgrade.
However, the powers that be decided to remove the better of the three, Mancz.
We can blame the Jimmies & the Joes all day long, but they're not the ones making these decisions. Just like continuing to run Miller up the middle instead of working on developing an edge game.
All off season, based on what we saw last season we should have been working on stretch plays, outside runs, pulling guards & screens. But it's obvious we weren't.
That's not a Jimmy & Joe problem.
When you have an OL that can't hold water for more than a couple seconds, the RBs don't have enough time to get to the outside.
Hard to say, but I'd like to see how long the OL could hold up if they started with X, Martin, & Mancz at OTAs.
You can tie one of their feet together and have each lie down on either side and hope for the best.Or have Allen compete with X at the position that got Houston to pay him. LG

Looks like Lamm was not playing.Does anyone know if Lamm played at all in this last game? I saw Davenport and Fuller out there a few times but I don't remember seeing Lamm at all. I figured they would use him as the TE/Extra Lineman like they've done in the past but I only remember seeing Fuller there a few times and I think I saw Davenport playing RT on a few plays. Just curious and trying to get an idea of what BOB is trying to do. It's good to see them work Davenport and Fuller in to the games here and there to give them experience. They will probably need both of them playing a lot before the season is over.

Duane Brown Situation
We mentioned on our podcast that the Houston Texans have been fielding phone calls checking on Duane Brownand his status. One of those teams trying to pry Brown away has been the Seattle Seahawks. They might eventually find a common ground, but the Texans want Brown to play in Houston.
They know their offensive line is not well-equipped, even more so with Brown out the picture. The Texans hold all the cards regarding his future in the NFL and this will continue to drag on as the season continues.

No idea, but I'm planning to look at it in the next few days.Wow, I didn't realize Davenport was in there for 30 snaps (45% of total snaps)! That's quite a bit. I saw him in there at RT a few times but I'm not sure if they used him as the TE/Extra Lineman like they did with Fuller. I guess they're going to speed up his development and let him play more now and hope he learns fast. Anyone know if he screwed up or did really well on his plays? How did he grade out?

Unload him! Bring in a player and a pick in return.

I don't think a 32 year old holdout will bring in a lot . Besides what's the Texans biggest need ? I would say OL ... hmm ... what does Brown play ... hmm ... OL . This principle they stand on doesn't apply to their popular / HEB guys , it's only for the rest . I think Duane believes he's in the first category .
So essentially, two 2nd rounders for a 32yo LT a year off major surgery, that only has one more year left in his contract. Someone who is obviously not happy with his current contract.Man, if the Seahawks are that interested in obtaining DB, then I could see my recommendation on a few other post' being a reasonable option. I'd still ask for Pocic but I wouldn't be bashful in asking a 2018 RD2 as well....or settling for a RD3 at worse, which was my initial idea.
I think Pocic could be a starter this season. I'm thinking, LG- Martin, OC- Mancz, RG- Pocic could set the enterior of the OL for many seasons going forward. Might as well start Davenport at RT now and let him use this season for developmental purposes. Texans could then bundle a few picks and grab one of the better LT prospects in 2018.
Trading DB at this time may actually help expedite the rebuilding of this OL since the team doesn't currently possess any 2018 RD1 or RD2 picks. If Watson is going to have any chance at success, the Texans cannot roll through 2018 with this OL mess.
