Slowik and the offense

I’m on board with what many have mentioned for a quick fix…..have Howard move to LG (if Patterson isn’t cleared to play) and have Fisher start at RT. On the other hand, could Fisher start at LG in a pinch?

Howard at LG is barely better than Green if he even is better than Green.

Howard is miserable at G
I think they should try Kendrick Green at LG. And I like giving Broeker snaps at RG. Maybe not as starter, though, until he proves himself.

My real desire, keep Tunsil at LT. Move Scruggs back to LG since he has familiarity with the position. Patterson (when ready) goes back under Center. I have not cared for Mason this season or much last season and would like to see Broeker in at RG. I’d move Howard’s under performing arse to Swing Tackle and insert Fisher in at RT. I believe 4 of the 5 pieces would play the game with a much nastier demeanor in the run game and would at least play pass pro until the whistle blows.

What I would do…..climb over the Colts in the off-season and sign their C- Ryan Kelly. I think Kelly would be a perfect match for this OL. A solid veteran that could be flanked with Scruggs at LG and Patterson at RG. Tunsil would stay at LT and Fisher would replace Howard at RT. This lone signing could make a massive difference with the OL.

LT- Tunsil / LG- Scruggs / C- Kelly / RG- Patterson / RT- Fisher
Agree with most of this, however Mason is good for 3 qtrs of a game. But he shouldn't be playing more than 50 snaps a game.

JJ Taylor had some nice runs tonight in relief of Mixon. I hate that they piled another heavy workload on Mixon tonight in a short week only to end up with a loss. Wasted effort. I want him able to run like this in the playoffs.

The team needs to find a way to spread touches to the other backs. I think Taylor has earned some touches going forward.

Honestly the way the game was going, why did CJ drop back 38 times? Just go old school and run it down their throat. Taylor only got 3 touches but 23 yards with a long of 9... Dare only got 1 carry.

Texans have scored six second half TD’s in 9 games. Four of those TD’s came in two games. That means in the other seven games, the Texans have two TD’s. Read that again - TWO TD’S IN SEVEN FREAKING GAMES.

That’s not a Nico issue, give me a freaking break. I could go out there as QB and score two TD’s in seven games on shear luck.

Slowik sucks.. Strausser sucks.. the entire offensive line sucks. The whole offensive design sucks.

We need Gary Kubiak to come off the couch and save this shithole offense.

What we are seeing right now is entirely unacceptable. Make that call Nick! Come save us Gary!

This offensive is as painful to watch as O'Breins.

It's even more painful to me. This team has the pieces. It's invested HEAVILY in the offensive line to the tune of the 2nd most guaranteed dollars in the NFL. They have a Joe Mixon at RB. They never had a guy that good under OB.

They have a better QB. Yes, later in the OB era they had Watson, but that was a lot of running around and using Watson's running around and finding people downfield. Before Watson, it was a crap show at QB.

So...we have MUCH better talent...yet this looks even worse than much of the OB era and it's simple west coast offense. It should not be this difficult. This thing is completely broken and while my save us Kubiak call is somewhat tongue-in cheek, we need to at least place that call after the season. Longshot I know...but imagine what Kubes could do with the talent on this team. He'd have this thing fixed and humming like a fine tuned motor.

Slowik has a -great- playbook and route running trees. Probably the best in the NFL. That being said… the timing for some of those playcalls were… dismal. I don’t think Slowik is HC material. He’ll always be a coordinator. That’s his ceiling.

As an experiment I had started reading through some old posts to see what the temperature was at the end of the season last year about Slowik.

I thought this was foreshadowing…

@NitroGSXR - you were on to something!

NY Giants, NO Saints, and DA Bears do/may have HC openings.

This is the type of thing someone should write in a sheet of paper and slide it under Slowik’s office door.

They only scored 1 TD.

What did this dud expect with Nico/Diggs out?

I expected them to score 16-17 pts. They would've scored that many if Stroud had hit that last pass to a wide open Metchie. BTW, Mixon is a stud.
Um he missed Metchie on a slant. They actually should’ve scored at least 30 points. And that’s even with the horrendous offensive lines play.

Get a td there, don’t fumble in the redzone first quarter, and make a 27 yard fg… you are correct.

I don't get how posters don't see this and this is without some of their best weapons. Could Slowik do a better job, sure he could. Is he doing a bad job, considering the circumstances he's doing a good job IMHO.

The issue some have is that the Texans offense doesn’t seem prepared for what defenses are throwing at them. Like stunts and overloads, for instance. Where are the adjustments when these schemes are shown? It’s one thing to say the players are not executing. They’re not. But sometimes the play has no chance from the jump. Everyone and everything has to improve. The are no sacred Toros here.

He was not scoring in the second half -with- Collins and Mixon. That’s not really my biggest beef with him though. It’s the fact that he sticks to the script. So it does not seem like he makes adjustments at all.

He'd definitely get the TE's wide open. Geez, I miss the days when Owen was killing fools over the middle of the field. Kubes would run that play action with the entire Oline and back going one way, and Owen (TE's) going back against the grain, WIDE OPEN! TE's have done nothing this year in this edition of this offense! Kubes was a good offensive mind!

See Baker Mayfield Monday night against one of "the best defenses in the league" sans Godwin AND Evans. He dropped 2 TD's on em. Only 200 yards but 2 TD's without those two receivers!?! Pretty damn good. AND he did that with a 1st year OC. I like the Texans WR depth better than the Bucs WR depth. Look what the Bucs TE did that night....8 for 77 and a TD. Could Slowick do a better job??? He damn well better!

Is the Bucs ol better than the Texans ol? Is Palmer, McMillan and more especially Otten better than what the
Texans are currently throwing out there? Remember Palmer has the speed to stretch the field and Otten is better than any te currently on the Texans roster. Most importantly and I know some will disagree with this, Baker is having a better year than Stroud is having.

Agreed, he's slow to make adjustments, but the team still should be putting up 24-30 PPG if the players made the plays that were there to be made.

Agreed, but the plays are there to be made to score 24-30 PPG even with the issues we've all brought up.

I definitely think so! Watching Tristan Wirfs the other day was fun! He SURE can play LT.

Daniels was a solid above avg TE. Daniels isn't currently on the roster.

Should've been a 3rd last game and there have been other games like that one.

If if’s and buts were candy and nuts we’d all have a jolly Christmas.

You dont think other teams ever fumble, or make a mistake in the red zone? Water finds its level with all teams. This team stinks in the 2nd half. It’s both sides of the ball honestly, but the offensive issues are so odious that it sticks out like a sore thumb.

We can agree to disagree. My whole point was the Bucs OC is doing more with way less than what Bobby is doing with this team

Agreed and those ifs are on the players for not making plays that are there to be made.

Nico coming back will help. But the second half offense is an issue with/without Nico playing. Completely inexcusable the way the offense has performed in the second half of games this season. Pin the blame on the coaches and the players, they all share it. They need to fix it.

The defense has played too good this season despite dealing with injuries only for the offense to fail them.

Before the game we all thought we would be roasted and many said make progress on the systemic issues. For a half we did, and pass protection was ok. CJ made some bad plays, Bobby ran too much, defense tired out. Texans seem to be trying to get key guys healthy and work out issues. It is frustrating, but Nico playing would have made the difference, so the big picture may be we win the Jags, Titans x2 and Dallas to take the division and enter playoffs healthy with Will healthy and take chances. Sure I am pissed they blew that game. We all know the Chiefs get that key PI call end of game to ice it even if it did not exist. Overall frustrating, but everything is still there and Patterson stopped the bleeding. Much better team at home though so record won’t help us make a deep playoff run in 2024. Did we really lose a game we generated 5 turn overs?

This is it. This coaching staff has zero ability to make adjustments in game. Its as if they expect opposing coordinators to sit back and let the Texans attack them in the second half the same way they attacked in the first. Like they expect Aaron Glenn to just throw his hands up in the air and let it happen. Young coaching staff I get it but damn they have no answers.

I’m not upset that they lost—I’m more disappointed they missed an opportunity to secure a decisive statement win against one of the league’s top teams. This was their moment to showcase their potential, and they couldn’t deliver.

I can’t chalk up the offensive struggles as a mere fluke; it’s been a recurring issue all season. Defenses adjust, yet Bobby Slowik consistently struggles to respond effectively. Time is running out for Slowik to become something he’s clearly not—a tactician capable of outsmarting the opposition.

The only rationale I can see for last season’s offense looking so different is the "element of surprise," namely CJ Stroud’s remarkable rookie performance. This year, however, CJ seems changed—like a quarterback wrestling with his confidence, in himself, his coaches, and his team. Slowik, in particular, appears to be a contributing factor.

Someone on that team has to help Stroud regain his confidence, though I’m not sure who—perhaps Nico Collins as a reliable target? One thing’s certain: Slowik isn’t the answer. He may even be losing confidence himself as his strategies repeatedly fall short.

I’m not nearly as optimistic as you are.

Texans have created 13 interceptions and 5 fumble recoveries so far this year….Bobby Slowik has NOT taken 1 single shot at the defense following these turnovers. Every freaking time it’s a run the ball on 1st, run the ball on 2nd down. It’s just incompetence not ever attacking a defense after a turnover. I’ve never seen anything like it. He’s absolutely scared to challenge the defense and Demeco apparently has no problem with it as it happened all night last night.

On point. I've thought the exact same thing but didn't realize it was zero times. When they get a turnover and it's at the plus 50 - take a shot at least half the time. Bobby has to go, and he needs to go now while there is still a chance to save the season. I strongly suspect I'm whistling in the wind on that one. DeMeco still has the favor of the fans for now due to the defense playing above its level...and the overall vibe he brings, and, of course, his history here. But he must stop being the DC and everyone's friend, and he needs to lay the hammer down on incompetence. He doesn't have to be an offensive expert to understand that 2 touchdowns in the second half spanning eight games is gross incompetence, and he cannot let that be the status quo, or he will start losing the team.
