I agree, the damage is done! Now, how best to move forward! The mismanagement of this franchise has been costly and the Watson situation is just another result of a bigger systemic problem! This recent situation is a result of hanging onto OB as a Coach, promoting him to GM, handicapping the Texans future by giving away the future drafts for little value in return! Add to that, the insistence on Jack Easterby holding a key role in management, further compounding the chaos and mismanagement of the franchise! This entire systemic failure to effectively manage the business has been costly!
Every Texan fan realizes the value Watson brings to the team, but on the flip side, the franchise is a business that can’t afford to allow one disgruntled, highly paid employee destroy! In every business, a disgruntled employee (especially in a key role IE; QB) is poison to the entire organization! You either recognize the poison exists and address it, or you let it continue to build, fester and spread throughout, and much later wish you had made the tough decision early and cut your losses!
Caserio and Culley should both sit down with Watson NOW, not later and talk face to face...this is a MUST DO! If it is apparent in this meeting that amends are impossible, then they should move forward with a trade for the appropriate value! With a new GM with a proven history and a new Coach with much experience, some key management positions have been filled. I would still remove Jack Easterby from his current his role to further remove all elements of the systemic problems of past! Cal should let the new GM and Coach build and manage this team and business towards success! If he wants the Texans to survive and compete, he has to STOP putting bandaids on a decade long systemic problems and expecting different and remarkable results year after year!
