Should we trade Watson?

Should we trade Watson?

  • Yes, without a doubt.

  • Yes, depending on compensation (please list your trade scenario).

  • No, never.

  • No, unless he plays hardball and sits.

I just want this to be over. Trading Watson is not good for the organization. Or the fans of the team. Might be good for Watson.

Bring in a new QB and additional future players? So they can be alienated in a few years? Fix the problem. Which is that this is a dysfunctional organization. Trading Watson solves nothing for this franchise.
If Dashaun is traded I expect E to be gone also.

Taking Tua in the deal is like O'Brien taking David Johnson in the Hopkins deal. Crap. Let the Dolphins deal Tua, then send that compensation to the Texans. Doubt they get any more than Arizona got for Rosen.

And taking bad contracts from the Texans would have to be a given in any deal. And the Texans have plenty.
You don't think Tua on a rookie contract plus the two 1sts and a 2nd isn't reasonable?
Or do you think Tua is crap??
not following your thought train

I was a diehard oilers fan and that carried over to the Texans. I used to study the draft so deep i knew every name till about the 6th round. I recorded every game and regularly re-watched them 2-3 times deciphering defenses and reads our qb missed.

After nearly 20 years of being swindled though, I find i care a whole helleva lot less. Obviously, I'm here posting so I still root for the team ,but when they do something stupid I'm no longer surprised. It's expected.

Im apathetic so I can relate to your post.
My college player research took a big hit last two years. If Watson remains, it could just dry up. Nothing against him but draft will be uneventful for me.

Regardless, from what I've been reading and paying attention to, which isn't much, seems like Watson was a different person before and after the contract extension. I mean, if he has issue, take it up with management, who was trying to reach out to him and he refused to answer per reports, don't make vague Twitter posts making half ass attempts to call the organization out. Starting to feel like a James Harden situation to me.
The Hopkins trade; no matter how positive he tried to be, it was a kick in the gut and not just for fans. He needs to go talk to his own mama.

Or do you think Tua is crap??
That's what I think. And some of his Dolphin teammates think the same thing.

"One defensive player said he isn't impressed with Tagovailoa's ball velocity or arm strength or ability to make off-schedule plays with his legs. So he ultimately questions whether Tagovailoa will ever be able to match the feats of other quarterbacks in the AFC such as Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes or Deshaun Watson.

'Those are the boys we got to beat, right?' this player said. 'It looks right now like that's going to be a big challenge.'"

Reading that updated SI article is so depressing. Watson is the only thing this miserable franchise has going for it and the level of ineptitude from the owner down is astonishing to behold. Cal McNair simply does not deserve a successful franchise. I wish I wasn't so invested in this team, watching them make one cataclysmic decision after another must be absolutely hilarious to outsiders.

Clarify. I didn't say dw is crap. I'm more concerned about tua's injuries.
Oh I understood. You said Tua was injury prone crap but if he is, then so is Watson due to his injuries history. I'm willing to give Tag 2021 to show he can remain healthy. We took that risk with #4 as he was ours and under contract with us.

But Easterly and Caserio are still here and Deshaun wants no part of the dynamic duo from Boston.
AFAIC doesn’t matter what DeShaun wants. The NFL will change in a way no team owner wants if DeShaun gets his way.

I can see Janice telling Cal to fire Easterby, then replacing Cal as CEO.

somehow I missed this the first time...
I completely agree with you.
What *I* would be doing is building this team around the franchise QB (we know those are hard to find) just starting his 2nd contract. If the Texans/Watson played this right Watson could be come a "brand" like Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, and Drew Brees. And by connection, the Texans brand becomes stronger.

but they probably won't see this opportunity because they're still stuck on stupid

Im not on board here. They don't have the same injury history.

They paid a preacher $3 million/year to create a "culture". That "culture" he created has alienated players, the front office, and fans. With Watson having a foot out the door, and Watt soon to follow, the new "culture" will be completed.

Hope it was worth it, Cal.

Then

Janice needs to find another CEO.
Yes sir! But no way I see that happened. I do not know if Cal is just a exceeding rich kid that lucked out with his parents or if he is just lazy. I keep thinking about the alleged comment made by H.L. Hunt father of Lamar who was founder of the KC Chiefs: when asked how long could Lamar continue to lose millions of dollars; daddy replied "100 years or so." At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

  • The Hunt family's fortune originates with oil wildcatter H.L. Hunt, who inspired the J.R. Ewing character on the long-running TV series "Dallas."

It's hard to argue this any way, since I don't know the dynamic between them. But, it's clear to everyone that this franchise has become a laughingstock since Cal took over. O'Brien's not around anymore to take the blame.
Makes you wonder how much OB was at fault.

I will double down, if Watson is traded, I am done with this garbage franchise.

Tua is a backup at best. I don't want him at all.

Two firsts isn't near enough for me to trade Watson, I want at least 3 firsts and multiple 2nd & 3rd round picks on top of those AND the receiving team takes on Mercilus contract.

per Forbes:
Tagovailoa suffered five notable injuries during his three-year career - two as a starter - at Alabama:

  1. Broken left index finger (March 2018; no games missed)
  2. Sprained right knee (October 2018; no games missed)
  3. Left high ankle sprain (December 2018; surgery; no games missed)
  4. Right high ankle sprain (October 2019; surgery; 1 game missed)
  5. Dislocated right hip with posterior acetabular wall fracture (November 2019; surgery; missed final 3.5 games)

Deshaun Watson per his wiki page:
1. On October 11, 2014, Watson broke a bone in his right hand in a game against the Louisville Cardinals.[12][13] He left in the first quarter and was out for the game. As a result of the injury, he missed the games against Boston College, Syracuse, and Wake Forest.
2. He returned for the game against Georgia Tech only to suffer an LCL strain, missing most of the game. He did not play against Georgia State the following week, came back the following week to play against state rival South Carolina.[15] After defeating the Gamecocks, it was revealed to the public that Watson had played the game with a torn ACL.[16] He underwent surgery on his left knee to repair his ACL the Friday before Clemson's bowl game against Oklahoma.[17]
3. Against Syracuse on November 5, 2016, he had 169 passing yards with two touchdowns, but left the game with an apparent shoulder injury.
4. On November 2, Watson tore his ACL on a non-contact play during practice, prematurely ending his rookie season NFL.
5. In Week 6 against the Buffalo Bills, Watson passed for 177 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions as the Texans narrowly won 20–13. Playing through broken ribs and a partially collapsed lung, he took a 12-hour bus ride from Houston to Jacksonville because of fears about what the air pressure might do to his chest.[79]

Your comment had nothing to do with productivity or whom had played longer. I think Tag's most recent injury more significant than Watson's broken ribs + lung but playing with those could have lead to his death..

Both were healthy for 2020 and Watson as I've said repeatedly is the much better player by far.

You posted all this to make a point. Cool. If you read things they don't align.

Agreed completely.

I want nothing to do with Tua. He's shown no traits that just absolutely pop. Can't expect him to necessarily excel as a rookie, but you'd like to see flashes of extraordinary talent.. and that just hasn't at all happened. And like it's been noted, even some of his teammates have observed the same.

Multiple 1's, more than one 2, something in the later rounds, and (ideally) a younger productive player. And I'm looking squarely at the Jets or Dolphins with eyes on reloading around Zach Wilson.

Please! give him a title if not a job with the Robert and Janice Education foundation. Place a CEO/leader whatever you call it over Texans who answers to Janice only. At 84 not sure how much longer she has but four billion USD split four ways among the children should make them all happy. There was much talk by Bob when he purchased the franchise how he wanted to do it for Houston fans; so Mrs. McNair leave control in good hands just not your children's; if you still care for those fans.

If he goes, then exactly this. However, that no-trade clause means he can pick his team which likely means we'll get pennies on the dollar.

Me: there's no way one man can devastate an NFL franchise like this.

My buddy: you don't know Jack

The no-trade clause could be problematic.

The Texans could also go nuclear and tell him he can either play, they trade him where the value lies, or he can just hang up his cleats.

Do I think they have the stones to do it? Of course not.. but they have that leverage.

If there is truth to this, then ship his ass off. That should begin what should be a complete flush of our roster with the exception of Reid and Tunsil. Wipe the board and start over. Let the new HC direct Caserio in building his new roster.

I'm blown away. He's pissed because his buddy got traded and either he didn't want Caserio here or wasn't part of the process of bringing him here. I'd say it's time for him to put his big boy pants on and get over it. Say he goes to another team next season and they piss him off? He gonna want to be traded again? And again and again and again? Teammates get traded personnel changes are made daily across the NFL. Get over it.

Looks like he hates McNair. Maybe there’s more to it than what we’re reading. For Andre Johnson to publicly come out and say what he did, that tells me something deeper is happening, has happened.

And doesn't Andre still work for the Texans? Or am I wrong?

Without that clause I like our chances of a decent haul in an actual auction.

I think we'll play hardball for a while, realize that we have very little leverage and then take whatever we can get from Watson's preferred landing spot. Probably then fire Easterby way too late, just to rub it in to the fan base. In short, the usual worst possible outcome we can expect from this clown-show.

Even the mock drafts are starting to think Watson will be elsewhere next year....
CBSSports

Earlier this week, rumors swirled about Deshaun Watson potentially being traded to the Dolphins after ESPN's Chris Mortensen tweeted a source speculated to him the Texans quarterback would consider being dealt to Miami.
While this is bound to be a gigantic offseason news story in the NFL, this is my first opportunity to include its impact on a mock draft. In this mock, the Dolphins and Texans agreed to a deal that includes the following compensation:
- Texans get: No. 3 overall, No. 18 overall, 2022 second-round pick, Tua Tagovailoa
- Dolphins get: Deshaun Watson, 2022 fourth-round pick
That's actually not a bad deal... much better than some of O'Brien's...

I'm not big on Tua, but f it. If Watson is gonna be a constant headache good riddance. I'd probably do it for draft picks alone.

We have the actual leverage - should we choose to use it - on whether or not he ever plays in the league again..
