Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

Hmm 10 months ago is precisely the timeline when The Browns and Watson became embroiled in the public back and forth with the Browns sure that Watson’s injury was minor enough that he could play through it and Watson insisting that he wasn’t fit to play.

There are some interesting parallels between this round of news and the issues the Texans had during the previous round, the refusal to play despite the guaranteed contract, the media suggestion that the team is responsible for leaking the news etc.

100%. Also, Hardin knows this, which may be why there has been NO response from him or his team. But yes. Flying Jimmy needs to be looking for a way out of that contract now and not later.
Both djohn and I have said as much for at least a couple of years. There should be NO surprise.
[EDITED to "no surprise."]

Watson's "rotator cuff contusion" occurred the end of Sept 2023 and was sidelined for several weeks thereafter.

Again, Florio is trying to make it much simpler than it really is. Goodell played ball with Hardin in the past. It won't be able to go that way in this case or subsequent cases.

What’s next in the newest Deshaun Watson case?
By Mike Florio
Published September 11, 2024 07:10 PM

On Monday, a new lawsuit was filed against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. After initially declining comment on the matter, the NFL announced on Tuesday that it is exploring the complaint and will review the matter under the Personal Conduct Policy.

So what happens next? Here’s a look at the expected steps.

NFL investigation.

The review will presumably include an effort to identify and to communicate with the accuser, who filed the lawsuit under the
Jane Doe pseudonym. Because the league has no subpoena power or other devices for compelling cooperation, the case goes nowhere if the accuser won’t talk to the league.

Attorney Tony Buzbee becomes the most critical figure in that analysis. If he recommends cooperation to his client, she likely will. If he recommends against cooperating, she won’t.

The investigation will focus on corroboration of the allegations, starting with confirming that Watson did indeed go to the accuser’s apartment on October 10, 2020. (The Texans hosted the Jaguars the next day.) It will explore whether and to what extent she told others about the incident after it occurred.

At some point, Watson will be interviewed.

After the investigation concludes, the league will activate the in-house process for proving a violation — if the league believes a violation occurred.

Hearing.

The 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement created an independent process for conducting a hearing regarding potential Personal Conduct Policy violations. That apparatus was used two years ago, when Judge Sue Robinson found that Watson had violated the policy in connection with four massage therapists who had alleged sexual misconduct.

In the prior case, Judge Robinson found that Watson’s strong denial of the allegations was not credible. That conclusion surely will echo into the next case, if there is one.

On that point, Watson might argue that the 2022 disciplinary process prevents another attempted punishment arising from similar facts. However, this case was not brought by a massage therapist. It is, in essence, a claim of alleged date rape.

It could be difficult for Watson to argue that the NFL is attempting to take a second bite of the apple. The apple seems to be wholly distinct.

Appeal.

If Judge Robinson imposes discipline on Watson, he can appeal the ruling to the Commissioner.

The factual findings made by Judge Robinson cannot be overturned. The question becomes whether the Commissioner would decrease the punishment.

Contract.

If Watson ultimately is suspended for even one game — and if Watson did not disclose this potential claim in writing when he signed with the Browns — the team could void his remaining guarantees and release him.

The stakes are very high. After this season, Watson has $46 million in fully guaranteed pay due in 2025, and another $46 million in fully guaranteed pay due in 2026. That’s $92 million, in all.

Given the money that suddenly could be at risk, Watson’s best play would be to quickly resolve the case, securing an agreement that the accuser will not discuss the case with anyone, absent a subpoena compelling her compliance. That would short-circuit the league’s investigation, and it would likely prevent the league from securing a suspension of Watson, since there would be no witness to dispute Watson’s denial of wrongdoing.

However it plays out, this is an issue that could result in both a suspension of Watson and an escape by the Browns of the final two years of his contract.

Except the statute of limitations is there for a specific reason………Which this falls WITHIN. Imagine telling a sexual assault victim to just “put this to bed already”.
Way to try to victim shame me.

*eyeroll*

I’m simply trying to say that this whole thing has been in the spotlight for a couple years now. This is a chess match being played out by both sides and it effin’ needs to stop. When I said sides…. I certainly wasn’t talking about a VICTIM. I’m talking about MR BUZZBEE.

Now… both sides need to figure out how to lock that mothertrucker up or shoot him and be done with it. No more spotlight to be given to Watson nor shined towards his victims who may be trying to heal.

Except Buzbee WAS NOT aware of this victim initially. Mind you, there are many still out there who have not gotten justice because Watson is a deviant criminal and Rusty Hardin is a crooked attorney. The spotlight needs to be on the marginalization of sexual assault victims especially when it comes to powerful athletes.

Yes he was and you and I both -know- it. It’s a chess match between attorneys.

Agreed on the spotlight that should behind on the marginalization of victims when it comes to powerful people. They’re been shined upon for over two years now.
Now what? More revelations? revelations that could help the Browns get out of this mess? Yeah… QUIT SHINING. Again… we need another Gary Plauche to shoot Watson and be done with it. No more spotlight. Now it’s time to heal.

The Browns won’t be able to get out of his contract so easily.

They are sounding the alarm. But the more they play him now, it will be harder for them to get out of this contract because they keep running him out there with new allegations coming. If Haslam really wanted out of his contract, he would tell his coaches to sit him and to sit him now. This is going to not only look worse on Watson, but on Haslam and the Browns as well.

I've tried to make that clear in past posts. There will be so many complications. Even though the NFL will try to keep this entirely within their "judicial arena," Hardin is bound to file endless lawsuits blocking and/or amending negative outcomes.
Exactly. And also, Hardin knows where the bodies are buried when it comes to Flying J and the dirty secrets. This is why you don’t do any deals with the devil.

I think Haslam and his family are more worried how they will look after the ridiculous monies/concessions they have flushed down the toilet. His ego is likely to try to prove himself right and the world wrong......................as long as he can.

I have just confirmed that Hardin himself (not Watson's agent, but with his review and approval) was the person that personally penned Watson's ridiculous contract.............besides the bodies, he knows where the hidden loopholes are...............and you can be sure that he will use them if need be.
