Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

I have more experience in the criminal justice field than you do. I’ll leave it there, detective.
Maybe you do, maybe you don't. When there was no bill on the criminal side, you as a so called lawyer esq, claimed someone was blackmailed or did their job in error. Now you're claiming workplace problems and another poster stated about osha who reign supreme over every workplace. I own a 20 fleet trucking company, and not only are we regulated by fmcsa, but also osha. So I was thinking the same thing when you started throwing out things like work environment. Look, no matter the suspension or fine, you're not going to agree its enough. I just have a problem when you're throwing your opinion around as if they're facts. Let it go man. When Mrs. Robinson gives her decision, then all this will be done and Texans fans can have an idea of the future draft picks.

Robinson rules the way Goodell wants or eventually HE determines what will happen. That is what PA agreed to. Goodell just hoping Robinson a female judge paid by both sides comes up with what he wants. He cannot allow this mess to continue to get on NFLs shoes; that is what owners pay him to do and he's quite good at surfing the curl.

It is one thing to demand a trade to another team while under a contract. It's another to drop your pants and poop on the NFL badge.

I'm predicting a slap on the wrist. Less than 6 games.

Nobody cares about this "issue" except jilted Texans fans. They're making a little noise in Cleveland, but that will die down once the preseason starts.

It's the world we live in.

The problem here is that the NFL is not in a position to take a morality stance. If the punishment looks weak, they are enabling bad behavior. If the punishment is heavy, they're hypocrites for looking the other way at owners. There's no way this can come out looking like anything but a farce.

Congrats, Roger.

This is more than enough by itself to get him suspended indefinitely:

[PERSONAL CONDUCT POLICY] Everyone who is part of the league must refrain from “conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in” the NFL.

For ~15 months, Watson's issues have continually marred the perceived integrity of and public confidence in the NFL. And there is no end really in sight.

I hope the NFL used this as part of their case. It will be a sad situation if he gets a slap on the wrist.
It seems the players have special privileges to keep one from facing appropriate charges as compared to the public. While they should be held at a higher standard because they are role models for our youth.

All of that plays in a civil suit where witnesses can be called, and a jury can decide on the preponderance of this type of evidence. That's not enough to convict Watson criminally, nor should it be enough for an indefinite suspension. It's not like Judge Robinson will hear from these witnesses directly. It's still a "he said, she said case".
He said and 26 She Saids

They planted the seed that they are "pushing" for 1 year minimum.

A week punishment won't look bad on them & allow the NFLPA to put a meaningless feather in their cap

The owner argument is weak.

1. - Snyder is still being investigated.
2. - Kraft went to a place that was know for their happy endings. And didn’t get charged with the masseuse for sexual assault. Let alone close to 30 different ones.
3. - Watson isn’t an owner. He is a player. These players in all organizations keep forgetting that. And that is one of the problems with Watson. He thinks he could have a say in the QBs, the coaches and GM. His job is to play football.
4. Fair doesn’t mean equal to everyone.
5. Didn’t Irsay get suspended? No one talks about that.

The argument sounds very childish. One kid can’t get in trouble for totaling the family car while drinking and driving because another didn’t get punished equally for getting into a fender bender.

You realize that you made my point about NFL hypocrisy vis a vis player/owner punishment, right?

No, I guess you don't.

You don’t get you have no point to make. He is a player not an owner. In any business there are rules for employees that don’t apply to ownership. That’s the difference to owning something and being employed by someone. Employees are replaceable. Ownership not as much.

The case is being heard by a former judge who will likely lean on proven facts. I just think the NFL's case has been risky when Watson had sure fire violations on COVOD protocols.
If they are that sure fired and I can see the possibility then I would hope the NFL would also see the same and present it as part of the case

I sort of remember a few people caring about a certain NFL player and some dogs?

What NFL owner has stubbed his toe recently and got away with it? The Browns and commanders are the only two that I can recall that are currently under investigation. Of course there is the Florio thing against the entire NFL but that also is ongoing so Goodell in my opinion can point to those and say still pending.

Jerry Jones comes to mind. Think the way Jerrah groped at women while intoxicated on film was his first venture in doing this to women? My guess, he’s been doing this for as long as he’s been a rich man. He has had the money to buy himself out of any hot water he’s gotten himself into.

Flores.

If Goodell wants to go to the "still pending" card, Watson still has 4 more suits yet to be resolved. Still pending.

The notion that NFL ownership has less responsibility in upholding the leagues image than the players is nonsense. Goodell has said that ownership needs to be more accountable than the players. Is that just lip service? It usually is. But that doesn't mean that statement isn't absolutely correct. There's a large element of racism and sexism amongst NFL ownership. And the repercussions from this behavior have been zip. That's why punishment from Goodell seems so hypocritical. Does Watson's behavior deserve an indefinite suspension? If the NFL wants to run a very tight ship, a case can be made. However, he'll have to go to the end of a long line of owners who deserve the same.

The hypocrisy would be anyone being punished for anything in this society anymore. Always the rich tag. Easy targets. With the rich there are usually two entities…those playing and those that want to get played. Either side ain’t anymore holy than the other. Money brings things to public attention that everybody else is doing also while not paying a price. And since god has been killed there is no remorse nor incentive to stop. You want pills these days? Walk into a CVS, load up and walk out.

It's funny how everyone seems to forget the owner of the Panthers.........forced to sell the team in Dec 2017.

The news that Richardson was putting the team up for sale came on the day of Sports Illustrated’s report that alleged:

  • Richardson invited female employees to his suite at Bank of America Stadium, where, one woman told Sports Illustrated, he would “give back rubs that lingered too long or went too low down the spine.”
  • A seat belt routine would occasionally result in Richardson allegedly brushing his hand over a woman’s breast under the guise of fastening her seat belt.
  • Richardson would ask to shave the legs of female employees.
  • Richard used a racial slur in addressing an African-American scout for the Panthers. A settlement was negotiated for the scout, who left the team.
  • Several former Panthers employees received settlements because of alleged inappropriate comments and behavior (simple sexual harrassment).
Like with Watson, none of the accusations were proven..........settlements avoided formal legal blame except by possible extrapolation by some, like with Watson..........the punishment of being forced to sell the team was "unprecedented."

IIRC that was 8 years ago and not what I would consider recent. I think that Roger Goodell is going to argue that things have changed. He will definitely be bringing attention of this type of behavior and how it can cause Devastation to the owners pocketbooks.

Don't forget when this mess started he was claiming Hardin and Watson wanted a trade so they can fight extradition to Texas. I still don't know how a legal expert or lawyer would think someone can fight extradition by moving to another state. That post was worthy of legal advice from Fred G. Sanford, Esq.

Yes exactly. Which makes me think is Hardin’s gameplan to fight extradition back to Texas?

Forget about? I didn’t forget about it.

I didn’t even know about it! Lol.

The owner vs player argument is DOA.

Thank you for the education.

It was a question in which we all or most people with sense on this board thought he was going to be charged. Your implication falls short of what you wanted to achieve. Very short, Earl.

You still don't get it. Even if he was charged. Extradition is irrelevant between states. Regardless of the state he was traded to, he couldn't go to an embassy like Julian Assange and fight extradition to Texas. That was the point of this joke that I always tease/remind you about.

Brady Quinn Offers Up This Conspiracy Theory on the Fate of Deshaun Watson
By Wil LeitnerJul 1, 2022

LaVar Arrington: “If Deshaun Watson plays after 6 or 8 games, those will be some of the most highly-rated, not just games themselves but anything connected to the NFL is going to be paid attention to. I hate to say this because of all the context connected to this but that’s a win. The media wins, the NFL wins; like they win until they don’t. If something else comes out that’s bad then I don’t know where you go from there, but I almost feel like they’ve gotten themselves out of the way of being culpable for this because it’s an arbitrator and a former judge and that’s not an NFL representative, it’s an independent representative.”
Brady Quinn: “I almost think that there’s a conspiracy theory at play here. LaVar, you bring up something really interesting. If the NFL knows everything that is happening behind the scenes is going to become public why not act like you want to come down with an unprecedented harsh punishment, but then as you present to Sue Robinson your facts or about how you’re going to go about punishing Deshaun Watson and you don’t necessarily put forward the best case, you then leave open the door for there to be some sort of middle ground where one of your stars and one of the biggest offseason headlines doesn’t end up missing the entire season. To your point, you get those primetime games, you get those ratings, you get that viewership, you get that controversy that has continually driven this league to this point. So you make it appear like you want to come down as hard as you can but you put forth a flimsy case and you allow the NFLPA and Deshaun Watson’s team to basically negotiate down or get a verdict or recommendation that is half of what the NFL wants, which is really, ‘wink wink, nod nod’ behind closed doors what they want because they know it’s going to impact their bottom line, their viewership, and all of that.” (Full Segment Audeo Above)

NFL analyst reveals minimum number of games that Deshaun Watson will be suspended

The Deshaun Watson sage continues to drag on, doesn’t it? With 24 civil suits leveled at the Cleveland Browns quarterback, 20 of which have been settled, attention has turned to what the NFL will do.
There is no question that the 26-year-old will get suspended, the question is simply how long. The league is thought to be pushing for a year-long ban for Watson, but we are still waiting on the final verdict from judge Sue Robinson.
NFL analyst Andrew Brandt, who was speaking on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast, gave his thoughts on how long Watson’s suspension could be.
Brandt said:
“You know, and the reports are that the NFL has wanted a year plus, in other words, indefinite where he can reapply after a year, which would sort of give him make sure he’s on his best behavior this year and not reaching out so he could play next year
Brandt continued:
“I don’t know what the NFLPA wants, maybe no discipline, which seems to be very, I don’t know, pie in the sky to suggest no discipline. There’s reports that maybe both sides would take six, eight games, I don’t see the NFL taking that. But, you know, this could all be negotiated before it gets back to judge Robinson today or before it goes to appeal. Before she renders her opinion at call being negotiate.”

Brandt added:
“Will the NFL take a year? I think so. Would Watson’s team take a year? Probably not. So we’ll see where this lands…. I’d predict between eight games and a season.”

Adding to this conspiracy theory............If an 8 game suspension were given, that would give Watson a couple of weeks to be prepared to play the Texans in week 11..............a grudge match to rival a no holds barred RAW WWE event...............the NFL banking on it being big-time money in the pocket......... :chef:

If Watson gets less than a full year, this is going to get lots of play. And millions will be outraged!

The NFL will make money with or without Watson. I don’t know why they’re try to spin this as a money grab. It this was the NFL thought process, then they’re just as dirty as Watson.

True. But there are millions more that don't have a dog in this hunt. Most NFL fans in New York, LA, Dallas, Chicago, Miami...they couldn't care less about a Watson suspension.
The NFL has been working really hard to increase the female fanbase across the NFL. Women everywhere will care about his suspension as well as many guys. No way does the NFL come out looking okay with a short suspension. And after reading what the lead HPD investigator revealed in her deposition, the odds of new evidence leading to a criminal trial are very high imo

They really haven't voiced any concern so far
