Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

Agreed

But to not care you seems to be posting alot in this thread.

I didn't ask you if you cared. I asked you what would sway your opinion one way or the other and dont tell me you dont have an opinion.

Of course I have an opinion….& that’s what I gave you…my opinion. Sorry my response to your loaded question doesn’t quite entrench me into the 1 of the only 2 camps of people you’ve chosen to recognize on this subject.

Nothing would/could “sway” it in either direction simply b/c I just don’t care enough & The only “camp” and thing I do care about is that of due process and how his situation affects the Texans….that’s it. Whether if he’s convicted or in what court……irrelevant. It’s been roughly 6.5 months since he declared he didn’t want to be a Houston Texan anymore so….

And yes, Early on in this thread’s history, I did post a lot in here…last 2-4 weeks, not so much…mainly b/c there’s been nothing new….just the same nonsense & bickering that’s been posted pretty much from day 1…been trying to do my part to get this thread retired or at least shelved until some real news pops on it…I might need to work a little harder.

These days tho, I only drop in to read to see if there’s been anything new…….& I wouldnt even do that if this thread wasn’t always stickied at the top when I filter by “new posts”.

Nice dance moves.

The question wasn't loaded and you even admitted you care how the case affects the Texans. So I guess we now know where you're coming from and where you stand on whether you hope the Pervert is found guilty or not.

Just an FYI.

Messages you unsend on Instagram are never deleted
The photo-sharing app has started sending prompts to users informing them about the changes made to the unsend messages feature.

Bingo!
Seeing almost all of the messages were on Instagram... Seems Mr. Watson will be unable to dodge the "I didn't say that" situation. He also will not be able to say he never tried to hide messages (as reported that he was deleting them) if indeed he did.

And just think boys, we could be talking about this for upwards of two years before anything progresses legal wise and who knows how long contract and NFL wise. We may finally have a true contender to challenge the “Fire BoB” thread for beating a dead horse.

police reports automatically keep him from field forever? He has not even been interviewed yet. When you make statements like this it is difficult for me to discuss with you; you seem locked into what you hope happens rather than allow process to work.
Think for a second. Why do you think the NFL has not interviewed him? Ponder on it.

I have and most here have. Goodell IMO has reacted poorly in the past with decisions like this. In any form of business the person making decisions should address issues immediately as the 'cancer' will often only get worse. I can not see any reason why Goodell has not to talk with DW long time ago. More women or evidence may come forth in future? Okay so what? Talk with him a second time or as many as needed. Don't let the wound fester. Let the public know you respect the women and are trying to make progress specifically after Buzzbee claimed NFL woman didn't handle interviews correctly.

Yes Roger could be arrogantly stupid. We know that. I believe DWis too.

Or..perhaps known evidence indicates the civil will be resolved and criminal won't lead to much.

Rodger Goodell may also be trying to protect Houston in allowing some sort of return in trade.

…….Fire BoB had a strong 6 year run. Watson should come to a conclusion in 2021 or 2022 b/c there’s no way the NFL leaves him sitting on the sideline for 2 full seasons.

Especially if criminal charges come. The NFL will make an example out of him. Because he will have to pay money. The amount of damage settlements alone will do to the NFL shield will not be good. Charges will make it so much worse.

He will not see the field until the legal issues are cleared up and in these Covid times with the courts being backed up I could see this lasting until the beginning of the 2023 season. The reason God'ell is taking his time is because he doesn't want the Pervert to get paid if God'ell puts the Pervert on the CEL. So he's waiting/hoping things will be resolved in the court system. This is highly unlikely to happen.

Plus the Pervert/Mulageta trying to change the NFL's way of doing business certainly means God'ell wont be doing the Pervert any favors.

Small update. HPD says investigation ongoing. Any trade of Watson would be blocked by the NFL.

Regurgitated news with nothing new in it. I was under the impression that someone on this thread had said that HPD policy was not to comment on ongoing investigations of anyone.

Will he or won't he? Watson could, I repeat, could, see the field in 2 weeks. The second deadline is training camp. If he does not show at all for camp, he'll face about $3.6M in fines. I'm guessing God'ell makes no decision on what action will be taken until the third deadline, the start of the season.

They can comment as to if there is an investigation ongoing or not. They cannot comment on any details of the investigation. And for anyone preoccupied with watching the calendar, understand that the time limit for a single police investigation is two years for misdemeanors and typically five years on felonies.

Was Mingo a high profile guy/face of the NFL like the Pervert?

No way God'ell lets the Pervert play this yr with 30 ish sexual assault charges hanging over his head. Look at what God'ell did with Ben as a guide.

Explain to me what failure after failure means so that I will know how to judge future coaches according to how you rate coaches?

I believed after 51-7 it was time for BOB to go.

Yes. The first was OTA's.

It seems everyone is expecting God'ell to make some kind of decision about Watson. The question is, when?

But does he have to, if Watson doesn't show? Can't the affair be treated, for the short term, the same as any veteran not reporting, for whatever reason?

Now, if Watson does report, that would certainly force God'ell's hand as to the timing of any action he might take against Watson.

Everyone is just assuming that Watson won't be playing this season. But all the cards haven't been dealt yet and either Watson or God'ell, or both, could have cards up their sleeve.

This second deadline coming up in two weeks will just have the possibility of being the next news worthy cycle. Stay tuned.

God'ell has the ultimate card and if the Pervert shows up for TC I bet God'ell lays the hammer down.

Watson's only card on whether he plays or not is to sit out, get fined a crap ton of money and have his contract frozen. Goodell cards are CEL, suspension for however long he wants and even life time banning and that's not counting the cards Texans have in suspending him for conduct, anyone still want to make the argument that this doesn't count as conduct detrimental to the team, and whatever else they throw at him including even benching him even if he does play. All the cards were dealt when the new CBA was signed now its just a matter of who plays what card.

This thread is like visiting a Nursing Home. People milling around saying the same thing day after day and several times in the same day. My only interest anymore is that I want this thing to drag out into the season so NC can get a better read on who the most desperate teams are going to be so he can up the ante and know how high a draft pick he might be looking at.

Are you saying that Watson doesn't have the option of reporting to training camp, or if he sits out training camp, reporting the week before the first game and the start of the season? Seems to me that adds up to four cards, or decisions, in his deck.

Why can't Watson report?

The consensus opinion among the NFL intelligentsia is that Watson will be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list prior to training camp. Hasn’t happened yet.
The final cut to the 53 man roster is August 31st. If the exempt card is Goodells' play, this is my guess when he will play it.

Additional cut dates this year are: down to 85 on Aug 17 and down to 80 on Aug 24.

You’re trying to turn one card into multiple cards. It ultimately doesn’t matter when Watson reports, assuming he does, because not reporting to any of it results in a fine and the team able to suspend him for it. This is of course not factoring in possible covid protocols which frankly are working massively in Watson’s favor, but there will come a point where someone will have to play the hand they are dealt and you don’t have to be a card shark to know Watson is bluffing. Now the question is how willing are the Texans and Goodell willing to call his bluff.

I do not understand why the commissioner would Place Watson on the exempt list as Houston would have to pay him for this year. If the commissioner thinks that there is enough evidence and there does seem to be why not suspend him for the year? Most think that Goodell wants to protect the Team owners and the CEL does not do anything for the Texans that I can see.

Because there is not enough evidence available to the league at this point to suspend Watson. But, the allegations are enough to keep Watson off the field until these civil and potentially criminal cases become clearer. That's the purpose of the exempt list.

Goodell doesn’t want to protect the Texans he wants to protect the league and the CEL is an easy way to do that. So Texans have to pay 10 million, in Goodell’s mind that is just the price of doing business. Remember this isn’t the Cowgirls or Pats or Packers with huge, global fan bases and major pull. This is basically a team with only local fans.

Why can't Watson report?
Because if he does he will go on the CEL list, if that happens God'ell wil, by the directive of the owners to lay down the harshest penalty possible.

Hopefully if he's done some of the things he's accused of and there's a definite pattern then I hope he spends a yr in jail for every woman who brought a suit, be it civil or criminal. In other words the Pervert has already played his last down of NFL football.

Wouldn't it be real cool to see a movie with the real life Perbert leading the inmates against the guards. The Pervert would be a real life Burt Reynolds character complete with the Pervert asking for a finger up the butt. Who wouldn't watch a docu series on that.

This is why I think if he beats the rap then he still wont be able to play until 2023. With Covid and the way the court systems are abusing the system (PM me and I will tell you a story.) it's going to take atlest 2 yrs to work all of this crap out. So, the Pervert wont be playing until then. How much would he be worth in 2023 and that's if everything goes in his favor, which i find very doubtful.

If Watson does not report, why should Goodell take any action at all? Watson will be fined and the NFL wins because Watson is not on the field and the Texans win because Watson is fined for missing games.

Watson loses.

This I think is the argument for why Watson will make an appearance.

In this case Goodell will place Watson on the exempt list. The NFL wins because Watson is not on the field and Watson wins because he gets paid. The Texans lose because they have to pay Watson his salary.

If Watson is wanting to stiff the Texans, this would seem to be the way to do so.

Of course I'm thinking people act rationally, which often is not the case. So for me, it comes down to whether Goodell feels he has to make a statement/move before Watson decides on his course of action.

Number19

Hall of Fame
Of course there is one more option, Goodell could suspend Watson. From what I've read, this step is normally not taken before the legal cases have been concluded, but Goodell does have the authority to suspend at any time. He just might take this action rather than the exempt list.
