As the 2 talking heads said, they saw no holding. His hands would have been high on shoulders and in view. My understanding is most plays called for holding to defenders torso are not called unless defender is tackled or tossed to ground.

Seems like most here disagree with your POV on Sting turning in time. I only saw the game and hope to have better slow time views this week.

I will post more 5 stars when I review more. Thanks for asking.

Disagree. Year 3 is correct. In my book, Texans don't get a new three years because they get a new coaching staff. I look at what has been brought in under Culley and Lovie and then observe what Ryans staff does. No one expects a SB and slightly more expect POs but we do expect significant improvement.

I think gradual betterment assures minimal heat on Demeco this season as most I am aware of are focusing on 2024 to see results of last three off-seasons.

Yall can think what yall want...the clock started on Caserio 3 yrs ago, but again the REBUILD...thats hard to do w/ no draft capital and all ur stars traded away for peanuts. We havent had high draft picks that belonged to us until this years draft and we had a HELLUVA draft.
 
WRs were better than expected. TEs didn't seem to be used very much. OL started rough, started getting better, then went down hill again when Fant went down. Running game couldn't get going.

Dell showed flashes. Woods and Collins looked better than I anticipated. CJ impressed me because he didn't ever look like he was "seeing ghosts", he showed great escape ability, and he had a lot throws that were dead accurate.

Defense looked much improved over last year. Perryman was great against the run, DBs played well, but it started going down hill after Pitre went down.

Will is legit. Greenard looked good. Horton and To'oTo'o showed good hustle. Hughes is a liability against the run.

Playcalling on offense needs work. Poor time management and poor balance of run/pass hurt the team IMO. That should improve as the season progresses.

The injuries hurt quite a bit. Imagine how good the defense will be with Ward and Pitre deep. Three starters and then a replacement starter getting hurt on the OL sucked. They did about as good as could be expected given the circumstances (except for putting a practice squad guard at RT, that is). God help us if we need to turn to Deculus in the coming weeks.

Overall, I think the team will be much improved this year. I'm expecting good things for the future. The first month of the season is probably going to be a rough one though.

Yes. You can say 3rd year for Caserio's clock but many think Nick just did what he was told. I'm willing to see how Nick's off-season does.
Of course it's hard to do but you rebuild with what you have.

speaking of game 2, anyone get word on richardsons injury?? didnt look serious but believe they took him out after the hit...not sure of anything beyond that...

Its too bad we have so many injuries and suffered even more during this game....indy didnt look 1/2 as bad as I thought they would....but then again i didnt think our Oline would look and do 1/2 as bad as it did either...
Hoping we dont lay an egg in season home opener against them next week...idk if we have enough band-aids to even try to make a patch work of an Oline

I’ve rewatched the game already. PI is like holding. Yes you CAN call it on every single pass play, but it isn’t b/c usually the refs recognize the WR’s are pushing and interfering almost as much as the DB is and they let the hand fighting go for the most part.

That play was no different. It could’ve just as easily been a no call..but b/c OBJ got up bitching he got the flag. THAT is why sting was laughing & you can tell OBJ & Sting were having a lil convo about it the 2 snaps after that play.

Sting: “really bro? We out here flopping for calls like the NBA now?”

OBJ: “gotta do what I gotta do to get the ball thrown to me more.”

The refs didn't help us out any. Anderson was getting tackled nearly every play. Should of had 3 or 4 sacks. And then there were 2 major holding calls on us when we converted 3rd downs where I saw no holding. Still no excuse but refs were horrible.

Yeah, same for me ..... and we all know I'm Debbie Downer in general.

You can't expect a team with a rookie HC, QB, OC & center to come out guns blazing against a quality team on their field.

Stroud wasn't "good" but he wasn't terrible either .... he made some plays - particularly up the middle of the field.
He wasn't good against pressure which was the knock from OSU but as was the case in college, when given time he was solid. I won't elaborate further, rather avoid the argument.

The defense is looking solid.

If you had higher expectations than this, that's on you. They exceeded my expectations.

Gonna have to have some patience with this team .... they are a couple years away.
 
It was a frustrating game - because anytime we got anything going there was a sack or a penalty pushing us back. I think Stroud had 3 key first downs brought back because of penalties. Also injuries suck - Pitre was looking like a pro bowler out there before he went out

So, frustrating. But also encouraging. It seemed like the game was too fast for Stroud - but by the second quarter he seemed comfortable. He also improvised when the play broke down and made some pretty good passes. That‘s encouraging. Will had a key pressure that lead to a turnover and a sack. Overall he looked great for a first game. Overall our defense looked pretty good. Our receiving corps looked better than expected. Our O-line looked real bad, let‘s hope that gets better when more guys are healthy - and as a result of that our running game didn‘t look good.

The Indy game should be interesting - not going up against a top 5 defense and playing against a fellow rookie QB should show us much better, how good we are right now.

Per PFR Schultz had 62 snaps and was targeted 4 times, 2 for 4yds
Quitoriano had 22 snaps and was targeted 1 time, 1 for 11yds
 
The most frustrating thing for me was the penalties. The Texans had 9 penalties for 88 yards. That is just too damn many. But even with that I feel encouraged overall.
 
Control the controllable. The team can’t control injuries to the OL and now safety position. Just gotta make adjustments and reduce risk where possible. That being said…

Things I liked:

1) DL pressure! Will Anderson did exactly what he was brought in here to do. He’s going to demand attention from opposing offenses and give other players an opportunity to make plays. See: Greenard yesterday having one of his best games as a pro.

2) Nico/Woods. Nico made some nice plays and showed he needs to be accounted for by opposing defenses. Woods was exactly what Stroud needed. A reliable safety valve that is exactly where he is supposed to be on every play. This helped Stroud convert a couple 3rd downs on that 14 play drive in the 2nd quarter.

Things I didn’t like:

1) Lack of running game. I get it, the Ravens are stout against the run and the OL is currently a M.A.S.H. unit. But you cannot have Stroud throwing 40+ times in a game behind that OL. And you cannot only give Pierce/Singletary a combined 18 carries. You have to give the backs an opportunity to get into a rhythm. After that 14 play drive in the 2nd quarter it was a perfect opportunity to run heavy and gas out the Ravens defense. Eventually they will break for a big play which opens up opportunities in the passing game.

2) Lack of usage for Dell/Schultz. I have no idea how Stroud threw the ball 44 times and Schultz finished with 2 catches for 4 yards. He is too good of a player for that to happen. The team needs to figure out ways to get him the ball. He should’ve finished with a similar line to Robert Woods as a reliable safety valve in the passing game.

Dell is arguably the best playmaker on the team. All those screens the team attempted needed to be directed toward him. Manufacture touches in the run game as well to break open a big play. The offense had trouble generating big plays, so give the playmaker more opportunities.



You can’t control injuries. But you can control playcalling to mitigate them. Slowik has some work to do as a 1st time OC. I hope to see major improvement this week in a much more favorable matchup.

I mentioned during pre season that the TEs looked like they were going to be an issue...including Schultz.

I dont know if hes dealing with something or if hes just cooked but hes not moving the same. If i had to bet id go with cooked.

I thought the defense performed about what I expected, not enough to win but enough to show they have some good promise.

The offense actually performed better than what I expected, even with that horrid o-line.

It was actually a promising start to the season for what was a very VERY poor team from last year.

you expected the tight ends to be ignored? You expected the running backs to be non-successful? You expected poor play calling by the offensive coordinator? You expected Fant to be replaced by Dieter who created a sack on his first snap? You expected the score at half time?
Pencil, you are so much more than I expected and I didn't expect to expect that.

I was a regular over there for awhile, but I started to dislike the atmosphere so I left. And I think they also changed the forum software and it wasn't as navigable which just made it all worse.

Not good enough to win with an anemic offense .... but the defense played well enough to win if the offense is just decent in most weeks, if the offense can extend a drive here or there that improves the performance of the defense indirectly.
 
I know Mason was getting worked inside. He was coming off his worse year since his rookie year, but since he's from the Patriots tree, Caserio brings him in and gives an extension. Much like Cannon, he looks washed
 
Finally got to watch the game last night.

Defense looked good, they’re still thinking too much because it’s all new, but once they settle and just start playing they’ll be exciting!

CJ looked like a rookie lol

a rookie that made a few really nice throws, but with this makeshift Oline he’s seeing the speed of the NFL coming right for him!

Doesn’t seem to be real quick with his feet and that may be a big factor why his play suffers once he’s scrambling.

I’d like to see a lot more quick throws to start setting up the longer developing plays.
