Just finished listening to Patrick storm with Seth Payneon a podcast and I feel better.
Basically said Texans aren’t trading Watson and that Watson hasn’t asked for a trade and doesn’t want toleave Houston.
Something along those lines.

Yeah, the media (both local and national) seem to believe that they have a tiger by the tail.
But, honestly, after all the conversations we've had on this forum, I think they are now just grasping at straws. Kicking a franchise while it's down and piling on.
If Caserio is truly going to embrace the GM role and its inherent power (which I believe he will), then I think Easterby will be told what to do and if he tries to make a power play, he will be out of here.
I'm not concerned with Easterby these days. I think the fans & media put so much pressure on McNair that he felt compelled to make a public statement about the dude. And honestly, that's gotta' leave at least a hint of doubt in the back of his mind about Jack. JMO, of course.
Good. I was not going to assume our QB is a diva unless I heard it from his mouth and he started acting like one. There has been nothing in his history to support the on-going narrative being pushed by media.
I watched a lot of the national media about Watson/Texans on YouTube last weekend just for sh*ts & giggles, and they are so full of crap and assumptions that they don't know if they are coming or going. All speculation, all baseless opinions, and just a bunch of word salads that never really offered much insight into anything.
The funniest one was an interview on Friday with John McClain on Rich Eisen's show. John obviously has the most insight of anyone in the media, and his saltiness on a national show was very amusing. Rich kept trying to prod him, but John wasn't backing down. It was really funny to me.

Houston has never gotten respect from national media. However, Watson has everyone's respect. The NFL would like nothing more than to have Watson play for a team they have more respect for...thus the unwarranted and biased reports lately.

The stories written about the Texans over the last few weeks can be written about almost every FO in sports b/c what it comes down to is not everyone in a work setting is fond of each other....no matter what the setting is. I’ve been in settings where well respected cardiologists are beefing with world renown surgeons for no other reason than ........ turf.

I work in a small group and when one of our guys left they began an interview process for a replacement. They (our bosses) were nice enough to ask our opinion and we universally made our recommendation. We all opted for the guy we were familiar with rather than the guy we didn't know. Needless to say we were all pissed when they picked the guy we were unsure of.
I think it's just human nature. If you wont listen to my opinion dont waste my time asking...
Fast forward 2 years and the guy "they picked" is pretty damn good at his job. We can't do without him now. We were wrong.
Yep. We put too much stock in the "media" these days, which has become less and less about informative investigative reporting and more about entertainment and TMZ-style gossip.
There is so much being 'reported' by this Watson story that I keep looking for any credible evidence in any of it and there simply is none. Really these show are NO DIFFERENT than us on the forum talking about our opinions. They are just dressed better. lol But none of them have any more insight than the rest of us.

I am fine with it and I dont ever want players making MGMT decisions. That never turns out well and putting DW4 on the search committee was a mistake that Cal's currently having to pay the price for doing. The DW4/AJ/Nuk stuff is actually quite entertaining and isn't that what this is for?
In fact I want Caserio to trade DW4 for the equivalent of 3 to four 1st rd picks and rebuild the team before getting a franchise QB. (What RS should've done before drafing DW4) I know you disagree with this but I happen to think they cant win with DW4 because of the amount of cap space he will be taking up in a couple of yrs. Not to mention I think he's a good but not nearly as good as most of this MB thinks he is. Bottom line is unless they can rebuild the team to championship quality in 2 yrs the prudent thing to do is move on. I guess the difference is I'm not scared of being able to find another top 10 QB and there's an outside chance you could find an even better QB. You must be gun shy and think they cant find another QB and are willing to roll with what they've got. I understand why you would think this way after the RS QB experience.

It is what it is. Those chokes had as much to do with failed coaching as anything else. Last time I checked, neither Moon nor Watson play defense.
You seem to have a LOT more confidence in the Texans front office in finding QB talent.
I'm not sure what fuels that fantasy of yours, but I'm a pragmatic sort of guy that knows getting Watson was the blind squirrel getting his nut.
I do have more faith in the Texans FO because I like the Caserio hire and have faith in him being able to find a QB as good or better than DW4 after he rebuilds the team with the draft picks gained from a DW4 trade. This would open up a 5-7 yr window to win a championship because the cap would no longer be an issue with a QB on a rookie deal.
Why am I confident Caserio can find another QB? Because he played QB in college and with the current/future cap situation there will be no championships. This is why I've been saying since last offseason we're in the middle of the lost decade.

Since when did playing a position in college make someone a good talent evaluator? Mike Devlin was the Big Ten offensive lineman of the year in college. I guess that makes him a great OL evaluator.

I dont like or dislike Caserio I hope he does a good job. He wont be able to do a good job with the lack of draft picks and the DW4 cap killing contract resrticting what he can do. So I would rather take a chance on a full rebuild than have a less than 10% chance at winning a championship continuing on with the status quo. My feelings on this topic are born out of 26 yrs of evidence. What are your feelings on this topic born out of besides fandom?

DW4's better than Jimmy G, however when Jimmy G's healthy (The issue) he's actually been quite good. Check out his win % and the 49ers were really bad the yr he was traded to them and he won a bunch of games anyways.
I hope he does a good job too. But I'm not going to say he knows how to find a QB because he was a Division III college QB. What if they ran the triple option in college? Also, I'm already on record that I want Watson traded and I'm looking forward to reading your optimistic takes on the next QB.

Exactly, they have been after Nick for awhile. They may have thought that he was going to be available and that's why they canned Gase. Not that any of it matters. Nick probably was the best candidate anyone could have wanted. I wonder if had Smith not had any unforeseen medical problem with his wife. Would Bob McNair have moved him to a higher level position and hired Nick if he was available.

I am okay with Nick Caserio but for him to be a great contract guy and not realize he had a clause in his own contract that kept him in New England and putting the Texans at high risk.
I would say more that he expect NE to let him go seeing as that has been BB's MO for the past 20 years. If guys want to leave let them leave. Caserio was the first person BB ever stopped and rumor at the time was it caused hard feelings between him, BB and Kraft.

No because there was a very good case to be made that the Texans didn’t tamper and that the Pats didn’t have a legal leg to stand on. League rules state you can not prevent someone from taking a promotion like that so there were a lot of lawyers that chimed in that Texans could have won that fight unless BE was willing to name Caserio as the official GM which wasn’t happening.
I think ultimately Caserio and the Texans didn’t feel it was worth the hassle. Caserio knew the job would still be there, and just in case he signed a new contract with an escape clause, and Texans knew either Caserio comes or he doesn’t but either way it would be this year before he could really start working.
